2015 Japan Open

i have a feeling that maos pcs score will go up this season. she is the most experienced skater still competing. her pcs was always lower before because kostner and kim were competing. now that they are retired Asada cannot be compared to them anymore and is now the top skater. she has 3 world championships. Whereas before this past world championships in 2015 not one person in the whole field had ever won a world medal of any color.

Also Mao slowly improved her PCS over the last 4 years. If she had skated the SP clean at the Olympic, she would've been in the final group with similar PCS scores as Caro and Yuna's.

I do agree yes. But it depends on where you start someone at. To me, with her skating skills and overall presentation, her perfect starts in the mid 9's. Which would be at minimum 72 out of the 80 points. So I feel she was penalized.

Alright...no. I'm an adelina fan myself but no one should start in the mid 9's. Well maybe in the Olympics but I just ignore those scores myself. I'd say the best in the world should start around mid 8's and have to prove the rest.

Congratulations Team Japan! A great start to the season. It's interesting how Satoko gets the 2nd lowest PCS, but not entirely surprising. :( Question: why does Liza have 2 deductions when she fell once?

I think she fell on the 3A and a spin.

Obviously, even though I do hate Adelina, I think that Adelina always had a footstep further than Tuk in terms of pcs, so I think that the difference between her and Tuk is "acceptable". Even though I think that 3 point difference of pcs between her and Mao is injustice, if Adelina keeps performing at a poor level like today, her pcs will definitely go straight down, breaking the bubble she had(well, obviously, she then competes in Russia haha). Plus, I think Mao will have enormous amount of Pcs if she keeps her performance like today since Kostner and Yuna are not competing.

Did you see the footage?

Do you know her? I don't like her either but hate is pretty extreme

It is about judging consistency and selective judging.

Why with certain skaters when they suffer poorer TES performance, their PCS always goes down. But only with certain skaters when they did absolutely poorly in TES, their PCS is always used to hold them up?

I don't disagree actually. In all honesty, all of the PCS is too high in this event. But I think Sotnikova did suffer a reduction. I think she would've been closer to 72 if she went clean. Keep in mind, regardless of what people think, the lowest judge of the 9 judges in Sochi gave her 70 points for PCS. The lowest of the 9. And there was judges on there that were clearly in Kim's camp, even if the public wants to believe it was entirely a Russian corruption case.

Isn't 72 too high for anyone in the current field besides Mao?

I don't disagree. I haven't seen anyone. And Mao is my personal favorite. I just can't stand the hate toward Sotnikova, that's all. But I agree that Mao should in almost all cases have the best PCS.

whats killing me when people are complaining about pcs scores is that NOT ONE OF US HAVE EVEN SEEN THE PERFORMANCES TO EVEN UNDERSTAND WHY THE SCORES ARE THE WAY THEY ARE. HOW CAN PEOPLE COMPLAIN WHEN YOU HAVEN'T EVEN WATCHED SOMETHING TO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT. HOW ARE YOU GONNA KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT TRANSITIONS, LINKING FOOTWORK, CHOREOGRAPHY, INTERPRETATION WHEN WE HAVE NO CLUE WHAT EVEN HAPPENED EXCEPT THAT THIS PERSON LANDED THIS JUMP OR FELL ON THAT. LOL

ANYONE AGREE???????????

thanks a lot! ;p i can go to sleep then (its 3am here) and maybe wake up with videos on youtube...

Well, before the competition, I did see all of the performances of ladies. I saw Gracie and Ashley's training footage, and Adelina and Tuk's Russian test skate and Satoko's performance. After seeing all the performances, the performance that had least amount of grace was Tuk and Adelina. While some people do say that she is a great artist, well, I don't really agree. Artistry in ladies these days has been a really disputable matter since Sochi Olympics. I think that Adelina really lacks elegance and her performance is rough despite her solid basis. Well, I would not actually rebut to opinion of people who like Adelina's artistry, but I'm not her supporter
