2015 Japan Open

Plus, I think Mao will have enormous amount of Pcs if she keeps her performance like today since Kostner and Yuna are not competing.

Why should Mao's PCS have anything to do with Carolina and Yuna's retiring? She should get good scores if she skates well regardless of who she's competing against, or who she has competed against in the past.

Are there any protocols for this?

I don't think it matters really. Do they even use IJS judges.

It's a fun event that carries a nice prize but nothing is official or counts toward any standings.

I need to see Mao back in action  Just knowing she won is cool but I need to see her again. Sorry...I'm weak.

I don't disagree actually. In all honesty, all of the PCS is too high in this event. But I think Sotnikova did suffer a reduction. I think she would've been closer to 72 if she went clean. Keep in mind, regardless of what people think, the lowest judge of the 9 judges in Sochi gave her 70 points for PCS. The lowest of the 9. And there was judges on there that were clearly in Kim's camp, even if the public wants to believe it was entirely a Russian corruption case.

 I'd like to see that actually.. beating Mao by 3 points in PCS with the lowest TES by 20+ points HAHHAAHAH.....

Can't wait for the stream in a few hours. So much :drama: from this event & it's thread ;)

And in one performance, Javi takes care of the it's-all-about-Patrick-vs-Hanyu myth. Meanwhile Shoma . . .

Who was just beaten by Samohin . . .

Who was beaten by Nathan . . .

Defeats both Javi & Patrick.

LOL. I love the unpredictability of the men's field these days.

Obviously, PCS is kind of a relative score compared to TES, which directly reflects one's performance. When Yuna and Carolina were competing, judge's pcs seemed to count Mao has 3rd in the field in terms of pcs (no offense, I'm not saying that she really is). But since Yuna and Carolina are absent and Mao is clearly Top 1 in the ladies field, her status will really affect the judge's decision.

lol yuzu wasnt there lol

Did Adelina do well or something? How does she have the 2nd highest PCS? And why only 3 behind Mao and quite a lot ahead of the others?

Well, before the competition, I did see all of the performances of ladies. I saw Gracie and Ashley's training footage, and Adelina and Tuk's Russian test skate and Satoko's performance. After seeing all the performances, the performance that had least amount of grace was Tuk and Adelina. While some people do say that she is a great artist, well, I don't really agree. Artistry in ladies these days has been a really disputable matter since Sochi Olympics. I think that Adelina really lacks elegance and her performance is rough despite her solid basis. Well, I would not actually rebut to opinion of people who like Adelina's artistry, but I'm not her supporter

yeah we all saw the test skates and training videos but it is not this competition. test skates and practice are nothing unless you actually see the performance that you are critiquing. none of us have seen these performaces that just took place. just saying.

Congrats Mao! Great return and I knew you can do it, and proved to the naysayers how it is done with a 3A!!!! Now I just want to see the program.

Mao is the only one I can count on upholding the credibility of PCS right now... everyone's too high!! Looks like reigning WC Liza caught up 5 points PCS with from their previous 9 points PCS difference just 1.5 years ago at WC 2013.

I do agree with that :) But since there is not enough time to improve since test skate and Russia cup for Adelina, I was just saying based on those competitions. Obviously, discussions here are kind of worthless right now, I do admit that. I'll just wait... Sorry if any of you guys are hurt by my comment, but I do not really like Sotnikova based on "what and how she performed lately"

my sentiments exactly! what i was saying to the "T"! :)

I hope someone will upload the videos on youtube because I can't wait to see Mao's performance. I'm so happy for her and I wish she's going to have another great season.
Her dress is beautiful indeed:biggrin:

Also, big congrats to Shoma! I think this score is what the little one needed before the start of the season.
Not a very good score from Patrick, but in his case I won't take this as relevant for this season. But now I wonder even more how his PCS will be compared to Javi's or Yuzu's (and Denis' I would say). I didn't expect Javi to receive better PCS than Patrick.

Oops, yeah Liza fell during the step sequence, not during the spin. Apparently it was right before the final spin.
