This is pure speculation now from my side,

but if he really had health issues, then I would understand his comment so, that he might feel that not skating would had been a better thing to do. But that's just speculation from me, maybe a native can look over it and confirm or correct my assumption. ;)

You're right, Alex. He means that maybe it was smarter to withdraw completely than to skate in his condition.

These two interviews both have direct speech inserts from Serghey. But I feel that the one posted on VK is a bit interpreted (words a bit alternated, same meaning overall though).
On VK interview:
-You performed with fever in Finland. Did you feel sick?
-I don't want to talk about it. If you go on the ice means you can do it. It wasn't the problem, problems had to be found in me. There were no global problems at trainings that would lead to such a free program skate. Time will pass and we will discuss and analyze everything with my team. It's hard to explain now (what happenned). I felt some kind of tightness (as if he faced some barriers he couldn't overcome), maybe it is because of my age (I assume he means he's a veteran skater and maybe it were his muscles reaction or it was a psychological one). Perhaps it was beause I wanted to reach a great result. It all took it's tall on me. It has been the worse skate in my entire career. Ad I need to analyze everything if I want to go on.
From TASS:
Voronov did not confirm that his skate was a result of any sickness."If I say that I'm sick then I am not an athlete. If I went on ice then I am able to do it. Those are my problems."
"One competition is not showing the overall result (he can reach) I believe. Things happen. This is what happenned to me, right. I need to analyze it and make everythng possible in order to prevent this to happen in future."

There will be the best and strong competitors on Russian Championships, nobody has anything guaranteed, you go there and prove yourself, this is what I've been doing every year. Lets wait and see what happens, I hope I go and prove myself (there)."

OK, Sergei's free program was far away from what he can do and from what he was expecting to do. Too bad... :cry:
Looking at his previous interviews, it seems that he has to sink himself to bounce back after a poor performance. Why not if it helps him to feel better ? :biggrin:

Looking at his free program, it is not that bad : Sergei could get some 65 points as TES, score that many other skaters would love to have ! ;) (especially Florent Amodio during the last Masters... :disapp:). OK, it is a poor consolation ; however it is a consolation.

Sergei, recover quickly and do your best at next competition ! :cheer2:

Thank you for the translation! Well, better that he was ill here than at the Grand Prix...knock on wood. At least it's not an injury. A slow start at the beginning of the season is pretty common, so I'm going to stay optimistic that it was just a one-off situation.

Doesn't seem like anyone is really talking about him in the CoC thread, but he has medalled there in the past & I see no reason why he couldn't again, but I have no idea how Han Yan & Boyang will fare...will be interesting. I just hope he skates his best & got the meltdown out of the way at Finlandia. :yes:
 
Hope Sergei can stay where he is for his 3rd CoC bronze medal (I don't think Boyang or Javi will bomb badly enough for him to get another color medal). I really like this new costume...not sure why he needs faux-tattoos when he has real ones on his arm already, though.:laugh2:
 
Have no idea why the judges identified his opening quad as under rotated in the Short, but I love this - the music choice, choreography, costume. Even the tattoos looks pretty fine as for me, because I have often seen it 1000 times worse (just look at Kovtun). Though I still think his new programs looks a bit "empty", but as he said that he moves in the right direction comparing with the previous starts this season.

He says that though he was disappointed about his performance and his results in China, he is determined to fight on and not to give up; that though he didn't cope with his performance in China, he tried to fight and not to fall apart as it had been in Finlandia.

He says that he likes his programs. He admitted that the free program causes him more troubles than the short program, but when asked "Maybe you don't feel it?" he answered "I do feel it. I've watched the movie "Once upon a time in America", and I like the story of it. But, for some reason, I haven't been able yet to show it at competitions to its best".

He says that the only choice is to plow ahead "like a locomotive", and to put more effort into those elements which didn't go well. He says that he has travelled a long way, that he has had the even worse results in his career, and it's not a reason to lose heart. He wants to prove to himself that all the efforts of the previous two years have not been in vain. He says that this is sport and that it's a hard work for everyone, not only for him; he says that he has made a decision and it is to work on.
 
Personally, I'm very pleased about Sergei's attitude. :agree: I was so sad about him in Finlandia (where he really fell apart and was saying in K&C (it was clearly audible) that it's no use and that it's time for him to finish...:cry:) Glad that he has got over it and is so determined to continue. Go Sergei! :cheer2:

He can't quit! Even though the season didn't start well, he isn't doing that badly (compare to let's say Michal Brezina, Richard Dornbush, Denis Ten, and a lot of others). I know he will fight and get his groove back. Thanks for the translation...can I ask what he meant by this part, though? It's a little confusing with Google Translate.

Well, it's a phrase which is often said to kids, and to grown-ups as well, when they are too dependent on the opinions of others, or too concerned about "what people say". What is often said in this case is "And what if these people said that you should jump from the tenth floor, would you believe (that they are right), would you do it?" (meaning that we shouldn't depend too much on the opinions of others, but should have our own opinions and make our own decisions).
I haven't quite understood, though, what it has to do with bad grades at school... I think that Sergei describes a situation when a kid is critisized by teachers (for bad grades), and his mother says this phrase to him, so that he didn't get too upset about it... (I would say, Sergei must have really supportive parents, if such a situation occurs to his mind! :biggrin:)

Well, sure that Sergei's exhibition song ("I feel good") is representative or his current state of mind. As silverfoxes said it, it is "only" the beginning of the season, and Sergei's one is not that bad.
So go on, Sergei, you can do it ! :cheer2:

It's definitely an improvement from the last few competitions, and the crowd seemed to love it. :) I think he has a good shot to medal, but I don't want to jinx him. The FS has been his downfall lately, so hopefully they've made any necessary adjustments and it will go smoothly from now on.
