Yuzuru Hanyu: 2015-16 Season

I still don't understand how Patrick scored 190.33 with one quad and one triple axel while Yuzuru only scored 186.29 and he did 3 quads and 2 triple axels? I know Yuzuru wasn't at his best, I've noticed he was a bit slow across the ice, but why wasn't he at his best? he is doing so well in practice but when it comes to the actual competition he is not really giving it 100%. He still has problems with the his lutz and stamina!. The most annoying thing about all of this is that Patrick's program didn't seem nearly as tiring nor as demanding as Yuzu's and still got much higher PCS!

It's Skate Canada. Patrick got a big boost for skating at home. Patrick scored 178 (88 TES and 90 PCS) with a similar (also clean) performance of the same program (also 1 quad and 1 axel, similar BV) at Japan Open last year. I'm quite surprised by the significance of the home inflation at Skate Canada.

I'm very glad to see Yuzuru landed 3 quads in the LP. He did well.

In practice Yuzuru didn't skate full run though, he only did the biggest elements and left out some details, all skaters are like that or else they might cost too much energy for practice only. In competition it's full run through with all the elements, that means he is more tired in competition. That's it.
And Yuzuru doesn't have technical issue with the lutz jump. If anything he should have done better with more pre rotation. But Yuzuru does not pre rotate his flip and lutz even just a little bit, that's why it's more difficult for him to land the lutz at the end of his program.
No one put his bad jump at the end of his free skate where he is deadly exhausted. He put he lutz there because he is confident with it.

Patrick had better overall presentation than Yuzuru in this competition (cleanliness) so its not really based on how demanding a program is. What I do have problem with is the TES but we'll see how that differ's outside of Canada and when Yuzu gets some mileage on that program.

I think he was giving 110% of what he had today out there on that ice. He put up a fight, a good one. That's not to say that his best today is all he has to offer, of course not. We all know he's capable of much more, both technically and artistically. But after that mental collapse yesterday its hard to get back to form and I think he got close enough to get what he needed today.

So proud of Yuzuru for what he was able to accomplish with SEIMEI for this competition. Knew he would fight to bring his best in his FS. Congratulations to him on his well earned silver medal!

Yuzuru also skated his LP early due to his poor placement of the SP. (He was the first skater of the 2nd group.) So his score was held down a bit. If he didn't have a bad SP and skated later, I think his LP score would be over 190.
