Anyway, have you guys seen that crazy entry before the first 3A combo in FS? :reye:
Of course I liked it, but honestly it is one of the entries I want him to give up :roll5:

Yeah. Maybe remove the difficult entry and replace it with the "WRONG ENTRY" (the one when he almost lost his balance)?:hap36: I know B.ESP said The take off on that 3A and to the 3S combination WAS WRONG! And still--
Or am I still normal for going :cool2: on what could have been a 3A fall?:con2:

I think we should all live with this sentiment and cope with it because this will always happens when it comes to Yuzuru. It's the path he choosed for his career, I mentioned exactly this sentiment in a couple of pages back. The most logical think would be strive for clean performances but he's setting extremely high standars that he can seldom execute in competition. Realistically speaking, with the current programs composition I really don't think we'll ever see the 2 clean in one competition. Yuzuru's latest clean competition was ... Well .... at Junior Worlds 2010 ... Of course some still consider this possibility because they ""trust"" him or something like that and I understand, at the end anything is possible just not likely. But I cant really have this mentality, I just prefer to relax wait for a miracle to happen at GPF/Worlds when he could have at least one of them near clean.

It's incredibly frustrating but that's just how it is.

Well what's frustrating is that he CAN skate clean!!! I was there live at Skate Canada and pretty much did not miss a single second of Yuzu on ice.
He skated a perfectly CLEAN FS AND SP in the practice run throughs! ugh!!! His form was VERY good that entire weekend, nailing quads everywhere with insane and different steps like they were nothing. (eagle-4S-eagle, eagle-4T-eagle, 4T+3T, 4S+3T, etc.) Not only the jumps, the spins were a lot faster, and the expressions/interpretations/details of movement were ALL better in the clean run throughs. Heck! Even his gala run through practice was better than the actual gala! His content is definitely well within his abilities, it's just a matter of giving the same level of performance when it comes to the actual thing.

(On the other hand, Patrick was falling/stepping out on 3A's and popping jumps everywhere and did much better in the competition than his practices. Looking at all the competitors, you can really tell who's a practice kind of skater and who's a competition kind of skater. Unfortunately I think the best of Yuzu will be left on practice ice.)

I agree with Nemorml. Unrealistic expectations are not helping anyone......
But I do believe;) that if Yuzu is in good shape at gpf and world, he should get about 95+190. I'm not expecting two clean programs. Just two okay performances will give him gold. His only enemy is his mentality. He thinks too much, he wants too much, which caused the disastrous SP at SC. If he can be a little bit less competitive in his heart, relax more, don't care about others, he'll be the absolute king on the ice. But for now, he's still not mentally stable. We don't know if he'll be overexcited when he meets Boyang at nhk, or at gpf and worlds. So we'd better lower our expectations, enjoy the elements he does well (eg. 3A) and accept the failures (eg. 3lz)......

:2thumbs:
LOL your user title!:yes2:

You can't say depending on one competition. Nice 2012 Yuzu had disaster practice before FS, GPF 2014 he was popping quads left and right before FP.

True, he also tends to do well in 'revenge' mode like Nice 2012, the performance that made me a fan! GPF 2014 he did have a clean FS run through though, including the 3Lz too.
But during SC this time, the pure quality of his skating in practice was amazing! The deep edges and the speed!! I simply sat there and said wowwww~ Walked into the competition to support Yuzu, walked out of it loving him even more!

I think this is just matter of time to get used to competitions and build competition mindset after off season, usually he needs 2 GP series for this :)))) personally I expect 2 okay performance for NHK and much better for GPF.

The only solution for Yuzuru is to compete as much as possible. And in run though he didn't do all the elements so he had more energy left. I think he needs more stamina because in real competition it costs more energy than in practice.

Yes, I'm personally looking forward to what kind of small choreo tweaks he will make for NHK, considering he'll have 4 weeks in between. Brian mentioned they'll work on 'conditioning', so hopefully by NHK we can see some of that showing as well.

I totally agree with that! This time he actually did a more complete run through than I expected, only left out the loop, and parts of the choreographic stsq at the end after Brian gave him a nod to skip that part. But the actual competition, he seemed A LOT more tired, I'd say from after landing the 3A1Lo3S, and he did slow down for the rest of the program. (7 pts PCS gap seemed a bit too harsh, but that's where he probably lost the points, just my guess...) If he can carry the same energy thru to the end (needs stamina/'conditioning' as Brian said at K&C), that would be :luv17:

I think all skaters do better in practice than in competitions. Are there any skaters that consistently perform better in competitions than in practice?

Yuzuru's programs have high risks. So it's much easier for him to make mistakes than other skaters when he is tired or nervous. He will get better when he does more competitions and build competition mindsets. It's the same pattern every season.

I think given the difficulty of his programs, his consistency is actually quite good. He is much more reliable than the other male skaters.

I still believe that if a competition is held in a neutral location (i.e. no strong medal contenders from the host country), Yuzuru is the most favored skater by international judges because he is the most well-rounded skater.

Yup! Successfully landing all 3 quads and 2 3A's (although not completely perfect) is already a huge accomplishment at this point in the season. Really looking forward to the rest of the season!

I don't know if a lot of skater do but I can think of Yuna Kim.

well, he does the same difficult entry into that 2nd 3A combo all the time.

I love very much his fight againt all the mistakes he had in his programmes. No matter what he does I always love his skating.
He is a fighter. Many people said Patrich Chan is the best, but for me his skate is boring.
I like Yuzuru"s fight to manage all the jumps and his sensibility. He lives the music and for me that's enough. Watch Yuzu's World 2012 FP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2ejAjIFkfo and Patrick's as well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuJfGH4bFTM.
Who was the best?
I know great expectations doesn't help anyone. Congratulations Yuzu for all you have done and for all you will do!

I don't think she does either. She may have occasionally had bad practices and performed better in competitions. But I don't think she had worse practices than competition performances on a regular basis.

Well let's not forget Yuzuru's Seimei is a very difficult program and they might upgrade it as the season goes (Yuzuru said so didn't he). The music, the concept, the layout.. everything is challenging. I think he will master it as he competes more and more.
And let's not forget Patrick's LP is actually an old one, he used it for JO 2014 and got 178 for it. In the SP, Patrick also looked less confident because the SP is new for him. So I think Yuzuru has done quite well with Seimei. He might adjust transitions and entries to make program look better. But overall he needs better stamina to maintain speed during whole program, I also notice he was deadly tired after 3A1Lo3S. And he was noticeably slower after fall in 3lz. His spin right after that was affected by the fall too.

Hi, I've been lurking for a while, but the arguments on this thread have been becoming very interesting since GPS started. They are really like the conflicts of an optimistic Me vs. a pessimistic Me in my brain. So I have nothing to add to what you guys've stated so far.
Just let me quote the tweet, which amused me and calmed my nerve:

Being a fangirl of Yuzuru is like being questioned again and again as below:
Do you swear by all that is holy that you will be an enthusiastic admirer of Yuzuru Hanyu? ---I do!
Do you promice to love and trust (and cherish) him, in sickness and in health, for richer for poorer, for better for worse, and forsaking all others, keep yourself only unto him, for as long as he lives in the competitive field (and ever after)?---I do!

Guys, can you say "I do."?:)
