I've seen some posts suggesting maybe a private freeskate but imo even that requires a good amount of personnel whom I'm sure would rather be with their families today. I wouldn't be surprised if they increased number of entrants for the Grand Prix Final....anyone who has placed in the top 3 at any one of the Grand Prixs gets to go? Seems most fair/easy to me.

I would really love the skaters to get a chance at their free skate but I think safety first. Lots of chaos and unpredictability in France right. Better safe than sorry.

And that hope would be the same whether the results of the unscientific survey were against cancellation or in favor of cancellation.

Agreed. The size of the survey, or whether it was scientific or not, would be irrelevant to an official decision, I'd think.

Just trying to find any news of the TEB event, or the generalized feelings of a larger group of people beyond the handful that are posting here.

Wow, I'm in the minority here, but I strongly support continuing the competition. First, as many of you have said already, there really is no safety issue- the competition site is far from Paris. Second, I'd wager that many of the skaters, if not most of them, would be devastated to have the competition canceled. Finally, and most important, what good does canceling do? Since there is no safety issue, wouldn't canceling really just be catering to the terrorists? Couldn't glorious skating performances help uplift and heal at this sad moment?

Omg....this is a terrible, terrible tragedy. I live in France now and will go back next week, I have such indescribable feelings now, on one hand life should go on and not be terrorized into submission, otoh how to pay attention to a sport when there is such a carnage?

Hope it won't be cancelled because the objective of terrorism is to bring terror into our daily lives and they would have won. My reservation is that a heavy heart would make it difficult for many skaters to skate like they normally would, and fans to enjoy the performances unaffected.

I actually agree with everything you have said here.

But, in the immediate aftermath of something like this, the organisers of big events have to think of the safety of everybody in attendence, be they competitors, spectators or staff.

Nobody knows for sure that there aren't more atttacks planned. So, as an event organiser, you have to err on the side of caution.

So, that is why I don't think there is any option but to call it off.

Thank you, I'm away now for something work related but will return to Strasbourg, which is a small city and far from Paris, so I don't feel unsafe in any way. However, I can see tensions and problems in all of France because of the clash of cultures, views, class and yes race, not surprised it's come down to many disenfranchised French youths attracted to radicalism.

Part of me agrees with you,if the event were a week from now.....but I do feel that it would be disrespectful of the friends and relatives of the dead, plus the skaters, at least the ones with hearts, would be so shaken as to not perform well...I went through PTSD twice in my life...once when I was at the Reno National air races and the terrorists hit the towers (and the event of course was canceled)....and once when a race plane flew into the crowd 125 yards away from me at Reno in 2011....I think, just like us all, the skaters in France are feeling this deeply.....they dont need any more stress....if any of them would like to do skates at TEB as a charity gala for the families, I would not say no to that....but this is not the day for competition...this is a day for unity against evil.....

Next 2 weeks will be COR and then NHK, then the GPF. It might be 2late by then. They should let them continue by having a moment of silence for the victims before every competition, followed by a special exhibition in honor of the victims. That way, the terrorist doesn't win, and the victims are honored and remembered.

Well, I'm French, and I've lived through being regularly being evacuated from train station because of random bomb alerts, I've lived through still seeing the military in front of ever Jewish and Muslim school, I've lived through thing happening all over.

And you know what, life goes on. We can't stop living just because there are a few crazy people among us, we can't submit to the fear and the terror. We need to keep on going.

I'll respect whatever decision the ISU will take, but frankly, I'd prefer if they kept going. Not for the competition itself, but to say : well, here's our answer to your terror, you may be scary, but we are strong, we will not be scared into staying home in fear.

This morning, I'm going to go to work as usual, last night, I called my family and friends, to remind them that I love them. This is all we can do.

Edit : also, Bordeaux is not Paris, and Skating is pretty much one of the least popular sport over here at the moment (they are not even showing the competition on national TV like they used to), so for those fearing for the security of people there, honestly, there isn't much to be afraid of. It's more scary to go take the train every morning to go to work.

I think that this is a moment were safety comes first, and all the resources and decision should de made thinking in the safety of the skaters, the public. I think they should suspended. Maybe called results just with short program?

And I don´t think any skater would be in their right mind and form after this horrible night, specially French skaters.

mmmm politics are complicated. And ISIS work in a way that the death of one becomes an instrument to recruite and get more followers.
