A fair way to pick GPF finalists?

I am starting to wonder if adjusted points might be the way to go.

As Golden pointed out winning the SP is not enough to earn 15 points in prior comps, so it should not be here.

In F1 after you complete the 75% and the race is suspended you only get 50% of the total score

If the race had for some reason to be abandoned before 75% of the planned distance (rounded up to the nearest lap) had been completed, then the points awarded are halved: 12.5, 9, 7.5, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0.5.

How many races are in a F1 season and isn't it usually something like weather that cancels the race and not a government decree?

There are 20. Races have been suspended because of safety reason. You have a Race Director that analyze the situation on every race and determinad if the races can be reasumed or will be suspended. Havin said that I don´t recall a race that have been suspended to take place in another day.

When Bahrain was cancelled there was no new date for the race.

Thanks. I decided to look it up and then deleted my question but your answer is better than what I found.

I see the similarity between F1 and TEB here, in F1, if you spend your time change your tires during the race, then the race is suspended for some reason, you are placement at the time of suspension will be significantly lower than the placement you may eventually finish up with had the race countinued, kind of like FS here SP placement doesn't reflect the final placement if FS is performed. And the time you spend on changing you tires might have caused you from finishing up 75% of the race thus not getting any points toward the total score at all.

Exactly. I don´t recall this happening in recent races, there have been red flags (temporaly suspension) but not a total stop to the races.

But drivers do get affected by external reason like rain or another driver´s crash. They will always go about "how they were unlucky with the safety car/ rain" , but I don´r remember anyone complaining about unfairness.

ISU trumps French government's official decision and creates imaginary scores for a free skate that was cancelled for a selected few skaters who underperformed in the SP and deems those skaters eligible to be given a chance to make it to the GPF. Yeah...that sounds about right and I don't think anyone would be surprised.

No different from those at the top of the TEB SP results benefitting from "imaginary" best-case-scenario FS scores -- as would be the case if the SP results are used to allot GP ranking points.

Not really since they cancelled the FS. No need to imagine anything really.

Your double standard is absurd.

What double standard. They called an end to the event. If we take only the SP scores then it is true that everyone had the same opportunity. That's just one standard. In every other event this season the competitors are or will be evaluated based on how they competed against one another in that event.

If we accept the SP results we are making assumptions. We things like Julianne SEGUIN / Charlie BILODEAU will score no more than .79 points more than Vanessa JAMES / Morgan CIPRES because the later have a .8 lead on the former. If S/B hypothetically scored .81 more than J/C than S/B would move ahead of J/C. By accepting the SP. We are assuming that no shifting of placements would have taken place.

I have a question for those who want the second chance for skaters who may make the GPF. You said that Julia for example, doesn't have the chance to qualify bc she did bad in her previous event. Ok, I get that, but do you realize that people like Julia, Kanako, Petrov, etc are neccessary because even if they can't make the final, they can substract points for those who can?

Second chance for everybody or for none. Allowing only a few skaters to skate their LPs is the most unfair.

As i advocate just adding everyone who had a chance to go to GPF to the said final, i disagree.
Tukt and Chan and Gracie had a good chance, just add them to the Final and have a bit more skaters there.
Lip never had a chance, so why would she go to final because she couldnt skate in TEB?

I'm not assuming anything. I'm aware that positions can and do change. I actually covered that when I said it's entirely possible that Julia is actually missing an opportunity to pass Gold and fight off Liza which could aid her case in going to Euros if she is a bubble competitor after nations results. There is a lot more to consider than just under performing skaters who did well at another event.

Everyone is equally missing the same opportunity. It's my opinion that either the FS is rescheduled...everyone competing against each other...or call it after the short.

You're deluding yourself if you don't see a double standard.

I already have explained the double standard in these posts today:

The double standard is that if the SPs/SD results are granted full ranking points, that decision would give the top skaters in the SPs/SD the benefit of the doubt that they would have had best-case-scenario FS results.
But you scoff at the notion of giving those who placed lower in the SPs/SD the same benefit of the doubt.
Double standard.

Tired of repeating myself.

Well, golden411icecoverage, maybe Sam-Skwantch just doesn't agree. No one has to agree with you however tired you are of repeating yourself.

And I do not have to agree with Sam-S or anyone else whose posts have been repeating the same unconvincing (to me) opinions that already have been posted many times in this and other threads.

I'm sorry but I don't agree with you. You want to argue against assumptions by adding further assumptions based on past performances. I'm just saying it's an unusual circumstance that warrants unusual outcomes. I don't care how it's done but if you want to keep integrity and consistency within the TEB results then it's my opinion that you will only have this if you give the GP points based on comparing the skaters performances at this event. I'd love to see a make up FS but the only fair solution is if all skaters involved are invited. We know that scores from event to event aren't consistent so obviously just adding skaters to other events isn't realistic and creating fake scores is really just creating fake results. What other options have we?

No, you don't. And I didn't say you did. However, since you have repeated your opinions (whether convincing or not) also I'm not quite sure what is the problem. Accusations of delusionment and irritable assertions that you are tired of repeating yourself make it sound like it is your way or nothing.

I do want to point out that if we all agreed with one another the forum would be a very boring place
