Yulia Lipnitskaya

Yulia's "goggle-eyed army" has dramatically increased. Their dilated pupils are a permanent side effect from staring at her living room. :hap85:
PS: That tiger wearing her Leningrad costume is adorable. :luv17:

Now....about that Panda...where does one place a beast of that size in one's apartment?

I thought the original dress and the music were a mismatch, thematically and chronologically. Both Elvis songs were released in the early 1960s (1961 and 1963) and tie-dye/flower power really didn't come into the culture until perhaps 1966 at the earliest (unless someone who was alive during that time could correct me).

Anyone who's watched "Mad Men" would see how the styles of the characters changed from 1960 to 1970. If Yulia were skating to Jefferson Airplane or "Sgt. Pepper" era Beatles then maybe the tie-dye would make sense.

I prefer her new dress, which looked like something out of 1963 and had better lines for Yulia.

I liked the raimbow dress so much, it was so unique but i rekon in the esibition the focus was too much on the outfit rather than the programs.
The new one is so black, so boring.

For the program I still prefer the first dress, but what I like about the new black one is that it can double as a very fashionable party/cocktail dress. Yulia should definitely keep it after the season. ;)

I know what you are saying, I thought the same. Dead-head hippies didn't listen to Elvis, and Elvis preferred a pink cadillac to a VW bus. But her program is conceived as a humorous tribute to American pop culture from the 60s era. Both tie-dyes and Elvis were primary icons that defined 60s popular culture, so they belong together in her program though they were worlds apart. The black costume is elegant and she looks terrific, but it narrows the focus of the program because it is not emblematic of something prominent from 60s culture, including Elvis. Essentially, we are left with just Elvis, when we know from interviews that the program was intended to be Yulia's cordial greeting to America with a respectful and funny look back upon its colorful past.

Yep. She's a very good coach.
:slink:

She may be a good coach, but I don't like her - she is sly, sneaky fox, has stolen Proklova from Goncharenko, she supported (if not came up with the idea itself) Adelina when she said she would need some private skates before '15 Euros, yesterday she jumped right away on SP score as final results of TEB because of Kovtun, she is part of the CSKA anti-Julia mafia, she always gives impression Adelina is the indisputable #1 of Russian ladies, maybe one time she said something positive about about Julia, she is sneaky and finally - Julia would always be #2 behind Adelina for her.
Besides, I don't want our dearest Julichka in Red Army's club. :p

Her imitation tie-dye dress was a pastiche right out of the 60's peace-and-love generation in USA. Tie-dye was the uniform of the counter-culture. She wants to salute American popular culture from that period. Like Elvis, the outfit was another signature dimension of an apparently forgotten era. It was smart, fit the mood of the music, and lit up the ice with color. Here are many examples from the 60's: https://www.google.com/search?q=tie...X&ved=0CCkQ7AlqFQoTCJf_icexlckCFU2ViAodCSkFkQ Except for its length, the current black outfit suggests an upscale funeral, among other somber events. The black angel. It is equally elegant and out of place. It ain't cool. Her public statement is that while some fans liked the original, others objected. It seems she was reacting to public sentiment, however uninformed. Let's hope she leaves the modestly frizzed ponytail as is (bet she loved the idea of having a ponytail).

elvis is a product of the 1950s, which stood opposed to the 1960s revolution! aside from the fact that they are both vintage american rock, there are no similarities and in fact represent two different cultures. this, i think, may be lost on russians who are relatively unaquainted with the seeming nuances of american culture. it would be as if a person confused northern and southern ireland. sure, both north and south listened to irish music, but it was much different.

basically: elvis & tie-die don't mix.

Well to be fair, she didn't do terribly in the last two short programs, and her LP ended up untested.

Anyone else here want Yulia to skate to something dark and dramatic next season?

Perhaps a FS to Le Jeune Homme et la Mort (Bach - Passacaglia in C Minor BMV 582). The ballet by Roland Petit is one of my absolute favourites, and I really do think if Yulia could embrace the dark intensity of the theme she could DRAMA the heck out of it.

Or maybe a SP to Chairman's Waltz (John Williams, Itzhak Perlman & Yo-Yo Ma). A non-Asian themed program (completely separate from the film), more interpretive and stylised to suit the music and mood, rather than anything directly related to the film.

eteri doesn't show up to competition, yulia does her best in a long time...

just sayin:)
Oh, I remember a similar thing when a couple of years ago Liza was performing her best every time Mishin wasn't with her :shame:

Panda...where does one place a beast of that size in one's apartment?

I think it is Irina, who runs the English Chat on Julia's VK Fanpage, that gave Yulia that big panda bear. I know she lives in France and was likely there with the Art Team banner. I could be wrong but I think that's her. Hopefully she is coping well with the tragic events that transpired. Positive thoughts for Paris and for Irina who is one of Julia's biggest fans.

I think the Panda made Julia very happy :)

If ISU will agree to increase number of finalists for GPF from TEB skaters, than Yulia will have a REALLY good chance to qualify. The only condition will be Roberta RODEGHIERO placing not higher than 4th place at CoR, which is pretty much guaranteed considering how tough the field there will be. What do you guys think?
