Mishin is very pleased with the fact that Liza' 3A has been stabilized in the LP, which already got positive GOE point at the Event. They plan to add a second 3A to the program in the future, but they will not rush into this decision right before the Nationals, because it is now more important for Liza to make the National podium and qualify for the Euros. Mishin believes that it is better for Liza to meet her main rivals at later events like the Euros & Worlds, despite her regaining shape, and the GPF is the best time for them to train and prepare for the main start.

I'm liking how he's discussing short-term goals. He probably wanted Liza at the GPF, but he's allowing her to look at it as a blessing in disguise. He also seems to think that when the 3A comes, the rest will follow. That might be true right now, but I do think once she starts landing it more cleanly and consistently, it won't be such a be all/end all element for her -- like how she was able to fall on it at the WTT and still beat Gracie in TES and PCS (losing just the point for the fall).
 
yeah he has short term & long term goals & they go steadily to reach them step by step

He's a professor after all:biggrin::thumbsup:

With a title like that, I would like to think that there would be a picture of Liza in there!!! ;) :biggrin:

Actually, that isn't a bad idea. A colouring-in book with pictures of skaters. Then you would have a cheap and easy way of seeing what the same dress but in a different colour would look like on a skater. :agree:

And with all these black dresses that Liza has, it might be an interesting exercise to see what they would look like in red, or blue, or green, etc. :laugh:

The question is, would she want to do it?

We know Liza is proud of where she comes from. But you have to ask yourself: how many girls that age like to wear traditional costume?

But, I hope she would want to do it. Because it would be lovely to see!

Lambiel did an interview with TSL and talked about choreographing for Liza:

He says some really nice things about her, and how she's improved from when they first met several years ago, but it kind of rubbed me the wrong way when they asked what she's kept of the FS choreography and he was like "the music." It was a flippant remark and definitely meant to be a joke, but given how she's been struggling just to get her jumps back to the consistency she had with them last season, it felt like an unnecessary dig. It'd be one thing if she was throwing down technically brilliant skates and just carelessly leaving out all of the in-betweens; even in Zagreb, she's still trying to get comfortable on the ice. As I've said here before, when she's comfortable and familiar with a program (see: Bolero), she has no problem incorporating the choreography with the jumps. Peer Gynt still needs more time, I'm sure of it.

In any event, I don't know how I'd feel if I was a skater and my choreographer said that, but I'm probably more sensitive than an elite athlete.

Well, that's just the truth. There is no choreography at all in Liza's FS, and the fact that she's struggling with her jumps is not an excuse in any way: it's her choice to water up the choreographic parts in order to focus on the technical ones (many other skaters don't do it even when they have jump problems) and it's perfectly fine, since every skater is entitled to use the best strategy to obtain as many points as he/she can, but there is no point in denying it. And especially since she's an elite athlete who is not exactly skating on her own for herself critiques are more than allowed. She can't expect everyone to pity the fact that she's struggling with jumps and because of this she refuses to do complex steps or transitions :laugh:
 
"The music" sounds accurate to me. I don't think it'd be nice of him to lie. I don't see any choreography in her FS. And I even totally love "In The Hall of the Mountain King" and her FS has my favorite part of the composition, sadly she just doesn't do anything with it. Sigh.

At least she got Bolero back in her last competition instead of the awful SP but I still think that both should be completely reworked. She has the tools to make some convincing "power" programs.

That no choreography at all can be seen in Liza's LP is somehow exaggerated. Liza's trump card in competitions is her excellent jumps, and to give full play to them is a right strategy when necessary. To ask for a performance with technical perfection and numerous steps in between at the same time is nearly an impossible task to a female skater. Although her physical build is not elegant, Liza's powerful skating can make another kind of beauty when all the jumps are perfectly hit in the program. I agree that her team should work out a plan to better balance the relations between the technical side and the artistic one.

Oh I don't mean that she'd require a program that doesn't suit her, some powerful music and expressing that can do wonders while still not being very complicated steps-wise. What I really want is a program that suits her and her strengths, if you know what I mean :)
