Satoko Miyahara

In terms of "beauty standards", I'm not exactly sure. When I like a skater, it's definitely not how beautiful they are according to societal standards (tall stature, skinny, etc).

That's just the thing. I love Satoko for how lovely her skating is and the way she performs. I am just wondering if that 'societal standard' is what is making judges hold back her PCS, and why so many people are nitpicking on her, for things she can't even control (like her physical attributes!)

Skaters with the classical long limbs, considerable stature and beautiful lines do have obvious advantages - they almost always get high PCS pretty fast as long as they are consistent. Satoko has been consistent for a while and her PCS, while higher than before now, don't go up as fast. And like Akiko, she has to keep being consistent just to keep her PCS from plummeting, which is not the case for the aforementioned skaters.

Hmm, I never thought about it like that, but I see the point you're making. It's a shame, if that's the case.

indeed it would be. It does make Satoko way more cool than ever though, if that is the case. She has to do more just to keep up, but she's a plucky lady and a fighter!

Satokoooo! You did it. Under pressure, when scores didn't always go your way you fought through. That's the heart of a champion.

!!!

ISU rankings have now been updated, and Satoko is currently ranked #1 :cheer:

Congratulations to our tiny queen :yahoo:

Cross-posting from the GPF Ladies FS thread:

What solar means is that Miyahara now is #1 in the ISU World Standings. Congratulations to Satoko . Very impressive.

Medvedeva is #1 in the ISU Season's World Ranking.

As of today, I realized that being a Satoko fan is awesome :). She is so consistent so it's hard to be sad for her! Congratulations on your well-deserved silver, Satoko! I love her Firedance SP, and this performance of Un Sospiro officially puts this FS into one of my most favourite programs ever.

Honestly, I was hesitant to become her fan, but finally her LP at the NHK and the GPF won my heart. It is solely my lose if I pretend to be a blind not to see beauties she brings to the ice just because she has one weakness.

She is a tiny person, but an exquisite skater. I love how gentle, effortless, and pure her skating is. Rises and falls of her knees, accompanied with delicate yet expressive upper body movements (to the finger tips) make her an excellent portrayer to this abstract classical music. She reads the mood of the music and tells the audience as if it were a tangible story. Her voice is heard clear without her being loud and literal. She is silently loud and quietly bold to me.

Her exhibition number struck me again. Her dress reminds me of a shade costume from La Bayadere. Maybe it could be her next program. :)

That's the exact same time I became a fan too! :) I think non-fans are bashing on her because the most elements you will ever see in a program are the jumps. And they receive more recognition than the other elements. For example, people who do not know much about figure skating always know to clap and cheer when a skater lands a jump. Someone in the GPF Ladies FS thread said that now the sport is almost all about jumps, and it's pretty sad. :( That sometimes overshadows all the other elements so people cannot focus on the other aspects of the person's skating (since they just want to see clean jumps). The jumps are most prone to mistakes too, and that doesn't help either.

Yeap, Yeap!
It took me awhile to realize what I have been missing from the field; the quality, which she has been constantly delivering right under my nose.

yes, yes, YES!! i cant tell express how happy i am for her, svery well deserved silver medal!! :cheer:  and audience's reaction even before she finished her program!! it must be great feeling and motivation for her, she is getting more confident with every performance (and probably helps her jumps too? cause they looked so much better to me ) and since noone posted her program videos yet, here they are

Short

Long

and i have a perfect song for her, isnt she lovely? isnt she wonderful? (esp 1st gif!)

i wanna say, i really enjoy BESP commentators but i dont understand how they think her SP was "disappointing" since her only mistake was flip edge, i can understand their opinion of "music being a back drop" even though i dont agree but disappointing short? not at all. CBC commentary was fun Kurt playing Dick Button while admiring Satoko's "simple, clean and pure" spiral  and Frog lady jumping up and down was quite funny too

I think we have a huge fan here! <<<3 her! she is just adorable! Consistent and getting stronger every day. I know Jenny and Dave don't like her jump technique but I find it reminiscent of Tara L.
