Yuzuru Hanyu: 2015-16 Season

Do you guys seriously think he'll try 4Lo next season? I personally think it's not time yet

Agree with you. He doesn't need it to win the Olympics. Plus a number of skaters have mentioned serious hip problems specifically with loops, probably due to how loops "take off".

Frankly, I think Yuzuru's biggest weapon is staying healthy. No one can beat him then.

We can say its enough now but if we compare the tech from the medalists from today to just 2-3 years ago its shocking how much things have changed. I think Yuzuru knows better than anyone that one day some young skater will pop up and closely challenge him for the Gold. He should know because he was that person to Patrick Chan. It's also how he stays motivated tbh, so as long he knows how to maintain within his bodily limits, I support him in his choices.

Yes, exactly. [Patrick was THE favorite for Sochi.] And Yuzu was the kid who couldn't stand after performances and here he is. I can easily say I never expected NHK15 followed by GPF in 2012. He's setting a standard. In earlier years the 3A was "the" jump and now it's considered the jump that you're ready for the big leagues. Just years before it was "The Quad," now it's how many. Someone younger probably IS going to come out who has big technical qualities to challenge him. (Someone who is probably younger, has more energy, and less injuries.) He's not considered the best skater at the moment for no reason.

I don't know if he NEEDs to, but he definitely WANTS to. And we know we can't get him to change his mind when he set his sight on something. Remember how people wanted him to take 4S out but he wouldn't? Now because of his stubbornness it's a gorgeous jump! :agree:

Mr. Hanyu will definitely try 4Lo next season. His 4lo in practice has increased the success rate significantly, at least from people I have heard. He does not practice it's just for fun. He will use it soon.
My friend said Mr. Hanyu also tries quad Lutz in practice but I don't think he will bring it out since too many quads will bring higher risks. Well, let's see, I think for next season adding the 4Lo is enough challenge for him.

Hi, could someone point what time to what time is the stsq that got level 3 in this SP and FP videos. Thank you.

You mean the time stamp of the stsq in both programs? For SP it's around 2:47-3-23 in between the two spins and for FS it's around 3:20-4:00 mark in between the first spin to the 4-3 combination jump.
Sorry if I didn't get it right I hope that helps :)

And thanks for the translation of the interview Interspectator!
The Pooh part is just... ah why is he so adorable!! I think he's genuinely overwhelmed and relieved, understandable considering how much pressure he's been carrying especially since the world record at NHK. I'm just so happy for him and I always wish him the best.

It's unbelievable if you think about it.. how much all those expectations can put that much weight on him. And there's nothing he can do about it except to continuously trying to perform as well as possible. Now I won't mind if he doesn't perform perfectly each and every time but I'm just worried once he trips/falls somewhere along the way. I mean you can't always do perfect all the time, we get it, but I think it'll be kinda hard for him as he'll put that much pressure on himself to always do well no matter what.

Anyway I'll always wish for the best for him and the most important is for him to stay healthy!

Does he NEED the 4lo? I feel like he can go to Olympics with current tech. 2 quads in SP and 3 quads in LP.

Let's see the scenario here.

Season-----Yuzuru------------------------Boyang
15/16------4S, 4T/ 4S, 4T, 4T--------------4Lz, 4T/ 4Lz, 4S, 4T, 4T
16/17------4S, 4T/ 4Lo, 4S, 4T, 4T---------4Lz, 4T/ 4Lz, 4S, 4S, 4T, 4T
17/18------4Lo, 4S/ 4Lo, 4S, 4S, 4T, 4TT---4Lz, 4S/ 4Lz, 4Lo, 4S, 4S, 4T, 4T

If Yuzuru does not add quad loop and does not improve his BV
then by 17/18 it would be
Season-----Yuzuru------------------------Boyang
17/18------4S, 4T/ 4S, 4T, 4T------vs------4Lz, 4S/ 4Lz, 4Lo, 4S, 4S, 4T, 4T

A few of the juniors are already doing 4 quads, when they learn a third different quad, they would do 5 in LP. This is the future.

If Jin's going for a 6 quad program, might as well just break out the quintuple jumps :laugh2:
TBH this honestly just scare me :drama:

I don't think he will be doing 4 quads, but just 3 diffrent ones at least at beginning if he includes 4Lo. It's very tricky jump

Kenzo Shirai (gymnast-first quad twist) interview :http://a1tumbling.tumblr.com/post/135236017196/2015-toyota-international-kenzo-shirai-interview
He talks about what he can learn from Yuzuru

Maybe relevant to the discussion of whether Yuzuru 'needs' the 4Lo

Hanyu-senshu is raising his difficulty and actively challenging himself, and I learn that even if you're at the top, you need to keep motivating yourself and raising the D-score otherwise you will be overtaken by the others. Watching Hanyu-senshu, I learn that if I do not have that sense of danger, I will lose too.

Hahaha I think he was amused by the flashes as well. Yuzu with ANA Star Wars plane model :agree:

Cannot imagine after ~ 14 hours plane journey then have to give a press conference. He took all this in stride yeah.
