Alexander Petrov

As for my personal opinion on the quad... I think he wants to go for it and I hope his coaches will allow him to. Of course it would have been better if he had been able to try it at a senior B first but unfortunately the overall situation has not been good for him this season and he just has to make do with the opportunities that are left.

I hope for two great skates from him this Nationals. As for the quad... I think that with a clean quad he will be quite competitive with the other men, and can make a run for the Euros spots. I don't think that they will send him without one.

But I also trust that Mishin knows what is best. The thing is that these are growing years for most boys - see the difference, for example, of Plushy between the ages of 16-17-18 - and very likely for Sasha. How much he is growing, and what that is doing to his jumps, we just don't know. I think Mishin has the long strategy in mind for him, and won't disrupt his progress or his jumps before the quad is ready. Of course I hope it is, and I would be excited - and anxious! - if he were to go for it. I also have no doubt that Sasha himself really wants to. I suppose we will see what happens. Did we ever get any news on what jumps he did at the Cup of Mishin? If he went for the quad there, it would be some indication of their possible plans...

They might not send him to the Winter Youth Olympics without one either, or so I've read on FSO.
As for Belgorod, no info. They didn't upload the protocols for that.

Very likely - how many spots do they have for that?

I think Junior Worlds is the most likely option in that scenario.

Yeah. Quads are a priority for the Fed. In one of Lakernik's interviews, when asked about promising Russian men who could one day challenge Kovtun, he basically named every Tom, Dick and Harry with a quad, including one who has never won a single international competition in his entire career at any level.
Then of course there is one influential coach in Russia who dislikes Sasha's skating, that person gave a negative opinion after SC and then another one after TEB.

Well, I have no doubt Sasha will get the quad in time - and I'm confident that when he does, he will be far more consistent with it than most skaters are. I said before this season began that I expected this might be something of a rocky ride - but it has mostly been quite good. It can seem that he has been treading water, but I see this year as a transitional one. Apart from the experience & more practical gains such as points earned, in my opinion what Sasha gained the most by his GP performances was... the realisation that he enjoyed the bigger occasions, and performing to large crowds, that he was, in fact, in his element. This began last year with Finlandia &c, but really was cemented this year.

I expect Sasha to really start challenging next year - and all the better, I feel, for the fact that no one will see him coming.:)

I have absolute faith in Sasha, and his abilities, and that, when he will be ready for the big push, no one will be able to stop him - no matter how influential they are.

And here's a little something I've been listening to - I don't know how apposite it is, but... what the heck!

They are taking the 2pm flight so just a couple hours more before departure.

Edit:
They've arrived in Ekaterinburg.

Someone on FSO was on the same flight...
"Liza, I recognized first, she, too, can be seen asleep stretched out like a cat, smiling all the time. Andrey Lazukin sat next to her, of course. Beautiful. :) Then I saw a rosy Petrov, and I identified Dmitriev after he came out of the cabin."

She also said all the guys in person are skinny.

According to an insider, Sasha will be in mens practice group #3 with the rest of the boys from Mishin's school.
Practice group 3 is scheduled for a 1.25pm (local time) practice slot on the 23rd. There is ice-resurfacing in between the second and third practice groups.

Mens practice sessions are over now. The draw is 8pm (local time) tonight. The skaters are staying at Hotel Moskovskaya Gorka, as per Liza's instagram.

Ice conditions are apparently quite poor.

Edit:
About the draw:
"Now advertise "toss", always I thought it was some routine action (seen once at the World Cup), but he said that would be all nice-nice in evening gowns and tuxedos, and in general, specially rented a concert hall action It will take place at the viewer."

Okay, hopefully there will be lots of photos.

Our Sasha will look snazzy, I'm sure.:)

Meanwhile, no news on how the training's gone? Anyway, that's not so important perhaps - though I'm sorry to hear about the poor ice quality; that will affect the kind of competition we'll get, I'm afraid - but good luck to Sasha at tomorrow's SP! Go, Sasha! Give us a nice. clean skate! :)
