Yulia Lipnitskaya

It's a shame that the Fed didn't let her leave last year like she supposedly wanted to.

Yeah, it was a wasted time. But perhaps it was meant to be like this. After all, she will have no regrets because she tried everything before leaving.

aye, as last nite shows, there is no such thing as wasted time :)

Still would love to know what TAT shouted as she landed the combo and then as she finished what she said if a Russian speaker could kindly translate? :)

It struck me earlier that Urmavov has experience in his own skating career of being under pressure in Russia with rivals ;) and he could be an asset there as well in helping Yulia deal with the packed field and how that affects one psychologically.

When Yulia landed the combo, Tarasova shouted “She did it. Molodecs."I don’t think there is a literal translation for molodecs from Russian to English, but the closest one I can think of is like saying “super” to a person. It’s told when an individual has done something great and successful, and you want them to know what a super job they have done. Then at the end she said, “Welcome back, our dear star.” Then she either said “we prayed for you” or “we worried for you” ( I can’t really tell which one because it’s difficult to make out the word that she said. And then afterwards, once again, “We love you. Welcome back.”

so she said what we were all feeling :)

I know it's been mentioned plenty already, but just wanted to add my congrats and welcome back to Yulia! :luv17:
I'm embarrassed to admit that after the tough times she had post-Sochi, I almost forgot what an amazing and gifted skater she is. Her program was pure magic today, and I'm so proud to see her OWN IT, especially after all the disappointment she's had recently. I'm so thrilled she's found a new coach who can nurture that talent. Oh, and I'm doubly thrilled it's none other than Alexei Urmanov (aka "The Prince") who I was a huge fan of (and had a huge crush on) back when I was just a little girl watching the 94 Olympics ;)

Go Yulia and Urmanov!

Vaitsekhovskaya's article "The Day When Lipnitskaya Returned"

Edit: Ok I read it and this part it's interesting.

Is she saying that that at the beginning of the season she did a private examination in one of the best clinics, and they discovered that her organism capacity (?) was enormous (I don't know what that means but it sounds good. ) and that this was good in terms of structure of muscles, speed of recovery, coordination, ability to perceive and assimilate information. Is that right?

Go Yulia and Urmanov!
That's it. She Owned It today. :agree2:

OK....finally got a second to see what's up with all of the new changes. I've now watched the SP at least 20 times and maybe more :slink:

Improvements:
1)The Hair is perfect. Straight from the 60's and she owned it!!

2)Instead of the opening choreo sequence and then doing three jumping passes into her candle spin they changed the whole thing up. It's genius and much more simple now. She has a very smooth beginning and doesn't need to rush as much to get three jumps in before the "Devil in Disguise" kicks in. The added time removes unwanted clutter and allows her to just float a bit more into her first jumping pass which is the 3z (surprise tano).

3)The 2a has been pushed back a bit and replaced the 3f. This was a huge improvement because it again serves to slow the beginning down and instead of doing the 2a and curving out into the candle spin she instead just slows the program down and sneaks in a back leg lift directly out of it and then into an Ina Bauer that matches perfectly over the words "Some things are meant to be" and then into the candle spin. Interesting move to do the Candle and then the new Donut Beillmann now which breaks the usual ending routine and adds a bit more time into the first half and gives her a new feel to her programs.

4) Probably the biggest fixed issue for me was the musical edit that we discussed back when the program first came out. It's a brilliant fix too. Instead of starting the StSeq right when the Devil in Disguise starts she again is given the freedom to stroke around while interpreting the music more freely and less structured. Then she charges after the 3t-3t with blistering speed. The crucial and most ingenious part of this fix whether on purpose or not is that the crowd starts clapping while she approaches the 3t-3t maybe even pumping her up for it and when she lands the pass it is right smack dab when the crowd was losing the beat due to the edit in previous outings. Now the crowd is clapping for the jump as the music edit gets all awkward and no one notices because they are cheering instead for the jump instead of to the beat.

5)Step Sequence has much more freedom and they used some of her old steps from the 2013-14 season. Like the outside edge twizzle with the leg extension from her old programs. I say bring back some of that stuff that really shows her strengths which is posture and athletic ability. She is after all a Devil in Disguise.

6) The final spin dropped the whole layout camel and instead she drops strait to her leg extended sit spin and variation but now when she rises up she does a donut like position with a beautiful free leg for a few revolutions before breaking it off and going into the iSpin. Now she even ends before the music builds up and has time to make a final movement with her body into the final position.

7) That Smile!!!!!!!

I think Eteri just has too many top level students to give them all the attention they need. Alexei and his team made some of the easiest moves and wound up maximizing the entire program and gave her a perfect vehicle to display her skills. Yes Yes Yes and YES!!!!

Sorry for the rambling but I felt like getting crazy analytical. Feel free to tl:dr

Agree - however I will say from personal experience (in everything) it's the simplest things that are often times the most difficult things to realize you need to do.

I agree and often the most overlooked. Especially when one doesn't spend the extra few minutes it takes to find them.

"The Return of Lipnitskaya"

I just really hope some of you aren't setting yourselves up for disappointment after 1 short program. She fell during the warm-up even. If she messes up in her FS tomorrow it is going to look real bad considering all these headlines. She was doing clean SP's last season and bombed all her FS's. I will still hope she does well but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I've got news for you. Skaters gonna fall, even the best.

Don't you worry about us, or her. We are happy that she showed her improvements. We don't care about the placement or the LP tomorrow and her goal right now is keep improving. Next season we'll think about Worlds and medals. She just started with a new team and the LP needs more time than a SP. We are not new to this sport. Thank you very much.
Now go and try to kill the joy of somebody else because ain't gonna work in this thread. ;)

Nobody is expecting a miracle in the FS. But if they made similar simple changes to the FS then maybe she can deliver it better than before. I already got my Christmas wish and that was to see her smiling and proud in front of her hometown. Anything else is just bonus points. Seriously...no one thinks that the FS is going to be some miraculous turnaround. Even though the media is abuzz again...maybe this time she'll be better equipped to handle it after going thru it once already. She looked so much more relaxed than I've seen her in a very long time.

I'm happy if she finish in top 6 so she can be in officially funded senior team for next year, while stryke is worried she might finish on the podium  Talking about setting yourselves up eh? ;)

Yulia Lipnitskaya after the Short Program

I apologize if this video was posted already. It does not contain any new information if you've read the posts in this thread. It does however have closed captions for Yulia's comment and some of TT's comment. Google translate works pretty well in this case.

I'm guessing it has something to do with metabolism and/or immune system? Considering she's been going through puberty/growth spurt and the fact that she's a trained athlete.

Sorry for cutting most of your comments but AGREE!!
Especially point 4 the music edit  and I thought the change in the final spin is interesting too.. she's never done that before.

I'm glad that the changed made seems to be working for her and Urmanov seems to have done some innovative work for the program and looking forward for the free. Let's hope she can do her best. The final placement isn't the most important though I'd love to see her keep the podium place.

But even if she stumbles or falls then it's also ok. We know she's been improving and working towards the more positive and better outcome and that's the most important! :agree:

Wow. Thank you Sam for the good analysis. You must have spent lots of time doing it!

One can expect positive outcome only when a skater and her coach communicate well. Now is the time to buy in Yulia-Alexei shares. :p
