Shoma’s comment after FP (sorry, it's rough translation!)

About tonight performance
“It's a shame I couldn’t achieve the performance as I practiced. But on the other, I have the feeling that the practice helped me (to prevent more mistake). “

After the mistake of the first 4T, you changed your layout bravely.
“In my daily practice also, when I fail the first quad, I try to change the last combo to 4T. But I rarely made it. So it was on the line of my practice… My problem is the 1st 4T. "

About the aggressive layout change (last combo → 4T)
“The other jumps except the first weren’t so bad. I supposed I could made it as I practiced about them. So I wanted to try to challenge… and I did.”

About FP after 4.69 point behind hanyu in SP
“About the score gap, I wasn’t conscious about it so much. I thought the gap would be wider at FP. More than that, I wanted to challenge myself. It ended with the failure, but it was the result of my challenge.”

About the first Japanese Nationals as a senior competitor
“I couldn’t get good performance in both SP and FP. But I could get SP as I practiced and it was a good achievement this time. At FP, I made mistakes, but I continued to fight without eluding myself. It’s an only relief.”

He took the 2nd. FP is 169.21.

But he tried to recover the 1st popped 4T in the last jump! (and failed and popped into 2T).
It’s almost certain he gets the spot for world. His attitude works good towards World, I believe:).

All my respect for trying this:clap:

No matter what, congratulations for the silver medal! This great season for Shoma should end with a medal in Boston

Congrats on the silver, Shoma! Some mistakes and, to my mind, mistaken strategy, but he is still so young and inexperienced. I'm privileged to see the learning process and hope, fingers crossed, to see more of it at Worlds in person! Now have a bit of a rest, love! You deserve it!

What a beautiful photograph is this! Look at him! Screw the people who say he is too short to make a good picture on the ice. Absolutely gorgeous picture card moment.

This FP performance made me respect Shoma as an athlete even more! I really applaud him for trying for a quad again, even though it didn't work. I think he knows his position really well, that his season, being his first senior season, the important thing is to push forward and challenge and make a name for himself. He did that all throughout this season. Love this attitude! He is probably going to 4CC next? We'll find out soon enough.

Congratulations to Shoma on winning the Silver! Even with the jump mistakes he did not give up.
Well done Shoma!

Shoma can go to world as well as 4CC!:)

I'm glad he has the spot of 4CC. Like Denis last year, it can be a big step for him. Further, Patrick and denis might come and it will be exciting!

go Shoma!

P.S.video of the event of anouncement of the members of World tonight! Congrats Shoma!

Aww, that video is cute. Does any other nation announce it like this with the team taking to the ice? I didn't know they did this!

Anyone able to tell us what he says, please? :) Thanks if you can.

It was a close call with Mura's score but even in case of 3rd place he'd have been selected for World. The season's results matter, not just Nationals placements. :) And little Shoma is doing very very well so far in his 1st senior year!
I'm still smiling at his surprised face during Yuzu's FS K&C, when he realized the camera was on him and the public laughed. So cute, like a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar. 😂

Nothing really interesting, but here it is.
Good evening everybody. At this competition, I was able to do a satisfactory performance and also have some regrets but I'm glad I was chosen to go to Worlds and I'll do my best and train hard to have a good skate at Worlds.

Congratulations to Shoma and I hope he stays injury free unlike last season. Good luck at 4CC and Worlds!

If he had successfully jumped the quad, would he be the first man to do a quad at the 8th jump pass?

There was one chinese skater who jumped quad as last jump in free program, but I don't remember his name right now

I'm absolutely fascinated by Shoma's skating. Of all the men this season, his programs are the ones I find myself wanting to watch multiple times. Even more than Yuzuru's, surprisingly, whom I'm a huge fan of (of course, like practically everyone who follows figure skating). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this amazingly talented young man stays healthy, and that I can have the privilege of seeing him live at worlds in Boston!
