Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

I hate the West Side Story soundtrack, so I really, really hope they won`t skate to that
Are they even back in training? They have so much time now, maybe they will take a longer break now that their season is already over.

I would think they have to continue to train in case. They are supposed to do Russian Cup and isn't their another Senior B?

I am a huge fan of Bye Bye Birdie. Elena has the spunk of Ann Margaret. I would love to see her and Ruslan skate to: Got a lot of Living to Do. They would make a great Kim and Hugo, LOL!

Admittedly I'm biased because I loathe most of Bye Bye Birdie (so cornball! but the telephone number song is cute). I'd rather see them do something from American Idiot (which had surprisingly beautiful vocal arrangements) or even Rent. If they want to do a pre-Beatles American musical, they would be better off with Hairspray, which has a much better score. "In my opinion." (Of course!)

I love American Idiot!! Some are corny but I love got a lot of living to do!

I'd personally rather see them with something universally known, safe and tried for both programs until they're safely back in the judges' good graces (as I don't believe it was just the falls that cost them this season). JMO. Regardless, I hope they know best what to do.

Okay, what about Pride and Prejudice for the FD? Darcy and Elizabeth or the Painted Veil soundtrack, both are very beautiful pieces of music with similar themes. Though pride and prejudice seems more upbeat and better known.

FD? Carmina Burana "O Fortuna". Lyrics are a bit morbid, but....nobody really understands Latin, so it could be ok.

Anyway, it's strong, powerful, dramatic, timeless...though a bit heavy...but, I think it would suit them.

What are the musical requirements for the midnight blues? Trying to find good music....

The requirement for strong edges and deep knee Bend should be a good fit for them.

The blues dance Wikipedia article has some decent descriptions of moves that could be added to add blue character to the dance:

Check the vernacular section.

Thank you!! The last two pages with everything drawn on the ice is really useful for the layman, such as myself.

For FD I'm thinking also Anytime Anywhere, Sarah Brightman. Fast, powerful, emotional, balletic, perfect for them.

I`ve seen from different posters suggesting Summertime for IZ`s SD next season. I`m not sure about it since it`s so overused, especially by NA skaters, but so was Carmen and they made it their own.

For a FD, I`m liking more and more the idea of using Danse Macabre. Here is a ballet done to that piece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5zOUfnD7Fg
It`s maybe something they could use as an Olympic FD, since it`s known music but not overused. I think IZ could sell the passion and drama of that piece.

Dance Macabre is too dark, calls for too much innovative movement. The judges seem to not be able to appreciate anything much beyond the traditional and melancholic or sweet, if we take a look at all the FD's this season. Somehow they have to go primarily safe with a bit of personality just to separate themselves from the pack, DM might be too much.

Maybe you are right. Although Appassionata was very generic and dull, it seemed to meet the taste of the judges more than Frida, that had much more going on in terms of choreography and transitions. I guess the judges are saying less is more? :confused2:

Yes which unfortunately Lena finds absolutely boring. Looking at Appassionata now, the version they had at Nationals was a lot more interesting and better performed than the material we saw at Russian Nationals. They need to find a happy medium between Appass. and Frida, then throw in some lovely exaggerated extensions and they will be fine. Frida was absolutely brilliant especially at COR and the judges just didn't want to go with them.

I liked Apassionate best at CoC, before all those little changes. And I'm sure Averbukh would have choreographed a more intricate program for them this season. Looking at the programs he choreographs I must say that I like them and the judges like them as well. So maybe a more conservative approach next season together with Averbukh could be a good idea to get results. And they can do wathever they want as an exhibition program. I really hope they'll have one next season because I think it didn't look good that they didn't have one this season.

Averbukh`s programs for single skaters have been very well received. I liked the GPF version of the Appassionata FD the most, but I think IZ need more engaging music than that for next season. Regarding their ex, I had hoped they would use Carmen, oh well, maybe next season.
