Yuzuru Hanyu: 2015-16 Season

I think Yuzu is a fan of anyone with skills he can admire and learn from. It can be from veterans like Daisuke, Plushenko and Johnny, contemporaries like Chan and Fernandez, the ladies, Mao and Yuna, or newcomers like Shoma and Boyang. It doesn't matter who it is, Yuzu will admire their skills and try to emulate what is best about them.

I agree! He's like a sponge that takes/learns the best qualities of all the skaters he admires. Yuzuru doesn't become envious of other skater's skill and instead take it as a form of motivation for himself to improve; I really want to have that determined type of mindset of his, it's truly admirable. :agree:

He appreciates and admires many skaters' skills. But I don't think he is a fan of those skaters. The only skaters that he idolizes are Plushenko and Weir. Plushenko is and has always been his no.1 idol.

Exactly. He does admire Yuna, Mao, Daisuke, etc... but they're not his idols. Only Plushenko and Johnny Weir really are. A perfect balance of choices, in my opinion.👍🏻

Speaking of them, Johnny will be on MWO and then NYOI with Plushy and Yuzu. Baby boy must be very happy. 😁❤️

Well, maybe that's because he speaks about having male role models more, he's a male skater after all. But I don’t think he respects or admires Yuna or Mao or Shizuka any less. The fact he called Shizuka and Yuna his role models speaks a lot to me to. I don't remember him having Dai as a role model. I think he actually watched Shizuka and Mao more closely, he went to Waseda because of Shizuka and wanted to have her mindset on sports/support others as her while learning sportsmanship from Mao. He stopped making excuses when he heard Mao not making them and stuff. While Plushenko and Weir may have had the greatest impact on his skating self, I think Shizuka and Mao could "nurture" him as a better person first. :)

Thank you for the link :)

I read this article in Japanese (Yomiuri Shimbun) on 31 Dec. 2015, and I was looking for the translation on the net. I was about to do the translation myself. Good timing

But I want to raise some points about the nuance of the translation. Original Japanese and my try hereunder.

- チャン選手やフェルナンデス選手に負けた次の試合は飛躍している。
「負けた悔しさや、ミスした自分への怒り。そういうものがあるから、頑張れるのかも。

Q. You have made a remakable leap in the next competition after defeated to Chan and Fernandez.
A. I may be able to work hard because of such feelings of disappointment suffering from a loss, as well as anger toward myself.

Just IMO, but a great leap after a defeat may be the point here.

- NHK杯の演技後は「絶対王者なんだ」という発言もあったが。
「あれは言い間違い。『絶対王者になるんだ』と言いたかったのに。

Q. Why did you call yourself the "absolute champion" after your performance at NHK Trophy?
A. I said it wrongly. I wanted to say "I'm gonna become the absolute champion"

I think he said, "絶対王者" (zettai ohja - absolute champion)になる。- to become the absolute champion.
Not 絶対に”王者”になる - to become a champion absolutely.

He is particular about this word "絶対王者 zettai ohja" always. And the zettai ohja in his mind is, needless to say, Plushenko.

But please note that the above is just my impression.

Somebody, please teach me how to add my scanned data (PDF of Yomiuri article in Japanese) to this thread. I'm so poor at handling these things :tantrum: Or, should I make it to JPEG or something first?

About Dai, I remember sometime around 2014 when Yuzu talked about Parisienne Walkway and manliness, he was asked who is in his mind is an ideal example of manliness, he said Daisuke Takahashi. And interestingly, when asked who is the most manly guy on TJ, Dai said in contrast to his delicate appearance, Yuzu is actually the most manly guy. :luv17:

Pictures, videos, etc.

A little bit off-topic but if anyone is interested I wanted to share Yuzu's GPF LP from Polish Eurosport

I don't know if you already seen this; there is a video on YouTube from Japan Nationals Gala practice showing Yuzuru attempting 4Lz but it was unfortunately under-rotated and he fell (ouch!) but it looked beautiful in the air.
A year ago I've heard Brian saying that he saw Yuzuru land a 4Lz once!
I hope by the 2018 Olympic we would see him do 4Lo, 4Lz, and even 4Axel!!!
Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O28vsZJL8Zw

Oh my lord!

If anyone want to sing along to Hana wa Saku shared by Huynh Trang @YHIFG FB (English subs at top & karaoke lyrics at the bottom)

The gist of this Yahoo article translated by Shuko Doyle @YHIFG FB

Is he editing the music???
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3ko0t8_160104-世界最高得点の舞台裏_sport im lost, so is he doing 4lo at worlds or not?
Yes, he says he's editing for the first time. -He may have just done a bit of editing or done the whole thing, it doesn't say. He says he wants to add another quad, so I think if it's ready, he'll put it in.

On the subject of the Music editing and production of SEIMEI, here is a more in-depth article:

HI everyone:

I did a little follow up to my original "photobombing" blog entry - this is part 2. If you didn't see part 1, I put the part 1 link inside this blog entry.

Hope it helps start your new year's off with a smile!!

It's saying that Yuzu has a girlfriend, a classmate from his high school. But the source is that Ladies magazine again so I don't know if it's true. We should wait for something definite from Yuzu himself first.

Just an update on the rumor started by Josei Seven, on Yahoo Sports.
http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20160108-00000115-sph-spo

Yuzu says "I don't know how this happened. They say there is no smoke without a fire, but there is no fire here. She is a class mate, I'm very shocked by the rumor. This person mentioned, is now inconvenienced (a more emphatic word than inconvenienced is used) and so are the fans.
I'm very sorry."

I doubt the publication will apologize to Yuzu for spreading gossip, but I hope no one believes anything they say from now on.

And here is TV show about how the front page of a Sports Newspaper is decided and designed. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3kq52a_2016-0105-スポーツ新聞-一面は誰がどのように_sport
Taken the day Yuzu won the GPF so He's on the cover.

Yuzu visits Iwate prefecture again before the NHK Charity EX. Meets with those living in temporary housing and school children.

Yuzuru: I am not getting married yet!!!

I did a spreadsheet of Yuzuru's 3A history since he turned senior. It's incredible he has landed 99 out of 106 3As (giving him a 93% success rate)!

P.S.- although it is computerized, i am still bad at math so there might be some wrong calculations... Does the 3A-1lo-3s at NHK FS count as Yuzuru's 100th attempted axel? and is the 100th landed axel in sight at worlds?

Well I updated the Jump Scores. I now have the full history of Yuzu's senior 3A, 4T, and 4S.

3A: Yuzuru has landed 99/106 3A's giving him a 93% success rate with an average GOE of +1.5
4T: Yuzuru has landed 54/72 4T's giving him a 75% success rate with an average GOE of +0.6 (the 2011-2012 season really dropped it)
4S: He has landed 14/28 4S giving him a 50% sucess rate with an average GOE of -0.2 (But it is getting much better now!)

What jump should I do next? I'm thinking maybe his trusty lutz

Hey Japanese speakers. I was wondering, why do fans say ゆづ instead of ゆず for yuzu?
Because his name is 結弦, written ゆづる in hiragana. One of the prononciation for 弦 (bowstring) is つる (tsuru) but in this case with another kanji before, it's become づる (zuru).

In fact ゆづ or ゆず, it's the same sound (or at least in university we didn't make any difference).
But ゆず (yuzu) it's the fruit 柚子, not the same at all^^.
But since our yuzu and the fruit are homonymes, it gives a lot of funny fanarts...and a lot of fan loves products with the yuzu citrus fruit scent or taste

HI everyone:

I just posted a new blog entry about Nam - he participated in a conference call this afternoon which I attended. While this is a Yuzu forum, there was a person on the call that repeatedly asked Nam questions about Javi and Yuzu, so I thought you might want to read Nam's answers about Yuzu and Javi, which were of course, very complimentary with brotherly love. If this posting is not appropriate for the Yuzu thread, let me know and I won't post "mixed" blog entries in future. I hope you all enjoy.

I think it's fine, and thank you for sharing the teleconference with us.
Wishing Nam a good competition at Nationals.
I also posted your link in Nam's thread.

I hope one day Yuzu will go to them again for full choreo because their style seems to suit Yuzu's dramatic flair :D

I don't mind at all :). Regarding Yuzu & Javi questions I do think it's a bit off topic to ask him about them, especially since he is often asked already in other interviews, but well nam is a very nice guy and answers very respectfully
Our boy is so sweet :luv17: He sent a bouquet of roses to Igor Bobrin and Natalia Bestemianova for their 30th Anniversary (they helped Nanami and Yuzuru with R&J.1's final choreography)
That's really sweet of him :luv17: . 30 years is amazing!, congrats to the couple.

Both of them looks like kindergarten kids, so young looking

Really love that he remembers and grateful to the people that has helped and supported him through out his journey.

Any news on this weekend ice shows?

The MWO is happening right now, but there isn't any stream I can watch...also tomorrow will be the Gala with Yuzu in it but on the same Channel. TBS2 Very sad, since I don't have that channel.
