Maia Shibutani & Alex Shibutani

I sense a partaaaaay going in here!
:yahoo::tantrum::hap10::dance::bow:

Shibs unite people!

MY BEAUTIFUL PRECIOUSES HAVE WONNNNNNNNNN!!!

The judges cannot deny the greatness any longer!! That free dance gave me SO MANY FEELINGS!!

What an amazing performance from Maia and Alex!! UNBELIEVABLE!
Their Gold medal is fully deserved. I am SOOO happy to see they are now the US champions.

You know, I am a huge fan of Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron, not because I am french (we had several amazing french couples in the past) but mostly because Gabriella and Guillaume bring something new and fresh to ice dance. Maia and Alex are following the same path and that's SO great, believe me. I think we should have tremendous World championships in Boston. The competition will be very exciting and tied imHo. Maia/Alex will fight for the World title, this is obvious to me. I think they were already the best US couple in Barcelona but the judges decided otherwise.

I would also like to congratulate Madison Hubbell and Zach Donohue. They made such a huge jump compared to US Nationals 2015 with 14 points more!!! What a performance from these two. Their move to Montréal training with other couples (Gabriella & Guillaume of course and also Alexandra & Paul) was definitely the right decision! That is very clear.

Maia/Alex and Madison/Zach are both super ice dance couples. I just love them so much for their performances and their talents

Papadakis/Cizeron, the Shibs, and Hubbell/Donohue are by far my three favorite ice dance teams. I feel like they all have great dance as well as skating skills. (I don't want to bad chat about other teams, but I really don't get Chock/Bates). I would love to see the Shibs and H/D go 1-2 in next year's Nationals.

I was REALLY worried about whether Alex being sick at the GPF would affect how they would be scored here at Nationals. But I was pleased with how Maia and Alex were judged.

I am assuming that the Shibs, Chock/Bates, and Hubbell/Donohue will be at 4CCs. (One of those teams might not go and Cannuscio/McManus may end up going.) I think that ice dance and pairs will be very interesting at 4CCs - and will tell a lot about what will happen in Boston.

Thrilled for the Shibs! Congratulations to them on their Gold Medal performance and winning
their National Title, simply the Best! :luv17:

So, according to USFSA's most recent announcement, Maia and Alex will go to both 4 CC and Worlds. I'm so happy we'll see Fix You two more times this season.

I am so happy for them winning the gold at Nationals! They deserved it. Love their programs, their dedication and hardwork, love their spirit. Bravo!

Chiming in a bit late to say I am so thrilled for the Shibs (and happy that I kept them first in my predictions) finally besting C/B with their wondrous free dance. I love that program so much every time I see it - gets better and better. I think skating after C/B also worked to their advantage which gave the judges the opportunity to score them higher.

Tanith nailed it when she said that the Shibs sold it with their emotions and the audience and judges responded in kind.

Hope they can podium at 4CC and Worlds. My only question is: how can they top this next season? Hope they and Peter T. continue to work together as they are a great match.

I think the top three teams will be there. They have a couple Canadian teams to chase down.

I am so ridiculously proud of Maia & Alex!

So... what are the chances that they podium at worlds? or even... win? :cheer:

Congratulations to Maia and Alex!!!!! I am beyond happy and proud of what they achieved.

I started getting nervous when I saw Chock/Bates' score, which was huge but in Nationals inflation left some room. And then I started breathing hard when I saw their tech score passed them and cried a bit when the score was finally posted.

Aaaand I've rewatched their free dance a couple times (props to sabinfire who may not read this thread but posts the best quality videos ). I love their KnC reaction, especially the excitement from Massi and Marina.

This Free Dance is going to be in the history books. I probably will never forget it.

Hope they and Peter T. continue to work together as they are a great match.

Absolutely.

Well, their Clair de Lune EX has been getting rave reviews. That might be a starting point.

I jus quickly checked the history of ice dance US Champions, aren't Maia and Alex the first brother and sister team to win the title? I quickly skimmed through it so I may have missed someone.

i cannot begin to tell you how happy i am for them!! i cant help but getting teary whenever i think/read/watch about them and their program, very well deserved win, hopefully there will be many more to come!
Congratulations!!!! :yahoo::hap57::hap36:

I feel like their really found their style this season - a modern/contemporary approach with strong technique is their thing right now and they have a great chance to become the best at it.

I wish they would use some piece from Alexandre Desplat next season...He creates so intricate soundtracks, with right choreography they would score another winner in my opinion. They are a mix between strong athletes and expressive dancers/performers and this season is a proof for me that they can pull of anything probably (maybe not an obvious romance things, but modern pieces, classical pieces would be great).

Big congrats for them, their team and Peter Tschernyshev - really amazing work on both programs, their improvement, mentality, approach, technique and expression during all season. It was a special thing to observe all this development - special dancers, special program.

I believe that Marina and Massi (with help from that ballet dancer, I forgot her name!) choreographed their SD, so they should get some credit. :) But yes, it's the FD where they needed work in past years and Tschernysev deserves major props!

I totally agree with all of this.

Speaking of Alexandre Desplat, I think it would be entertaining in a meta sort of way for them to do a short-lived exhibition piece to the Zero Dark Thirty soundtrack just to see Maia play Maya.

The impressive thing is that they choreographed Clair de Lune themselves.

Maia and Alex have shown such a high level of commitment to working with the best, paying attention to detail and bringing authenticity to their programs.

The Shibs have consistently sought input from the best. While not every program has been an "knock it out of the park" success the way that arguably this year's SD and FD are, it would be hard to argue that they don't give it their all when it comes to striving for authenticity.

For their 2014 Michael Jackson free dance, they didn't just find a local dance teacher. They went to the most definitive source available, working with Michael Jackson's own choreographer Travis Payne and MJ's lead dance master, Stacy Walker. If you watch the movie "This Is It" Payne and Walker help choose and then train the corp of dancers for the tour.

For their 2013 Memoirs of a Geisha FD, they worked with the Japanese Dance specialist who was herself the adviser for the actual movie, Miyako Tachibana.
