I agree. I also would like them to replace their rotational lift with a stationary, since they seem to have problems to gain speed with the rotational. They could do a rotational lift for their choreographic element, where they don`t have to worry about finding positions that will get them level 4.

To be fair they don't have problems with levels, usually, in all their lifts.

They just need to work on their grade of execution. The judges just want everything to look exceptionally smooth and easy, regardless of the level of difficulty. Then their PCS should increase nicely as well.

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with Drobiazko and Vanagas at all...but there were many years in late 90s and early 2000s that I didn't follow ice skating very closely. Unless you won an Olympic medal I probably wouldn't have heard of you.

I'm curious, I'll look them up now...

They were frequently robbed of medals, not being from a powerful country... I liked their 01/02 programs and their 05/06 FD

I liked them as well. I always thought they were beautiful to watch and I loved Vanagas in particular. Besides, they had a beautiful gala program (Pirates) and I hate galas.

That is one super gala :) For me when they retired from amateur sport they became so much more engaging as a couple.

These are D/V's programs from 1999. Two of my fave skating programs ever.

Valse Triste OD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQEaZ2YSEUU
Sunrise at Alcatraz FD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUH6Z0jL6mA

They skated for a small federation with no political pull, so things on the judging front were never easy for them. But 1999 is the year they got really shafted IMO, they had arguably two of the strongest programs choreo-wise that season and the judges didn't react at all and continued business as usual. That they won Euros medals and a World bronze and managed quite a few top five placements skating for Lithuania (so without any major political backing) really tells you how strong they were.

Povilas was a fantastic ice dancer and partner. That she was weaker than him and IMO sometimes tried to compensate for that with OOT melodrama bothered me a bit in some programs, but mostly they managed to skate together very well. Povilas was a very elegant and subtle and quiet performer but still always managed to exude authority and command on the ice.

The best Valse Triste program for me will always be Rahkamo&Kokko's FD in 1993.:luv17:

Elena is so pretty

Sigh, last year I counted the days until Euros, but this year it`s not even on my radar. I/Z not qualfying, K/S and S/K injured, I`m glad when this season is over :scowl:
