I think Radionova and Medvedeva should both consider one more competition(or public demonstration) before Worlds... two months is too long a wait and too long to focus. Yeah there were other excuses last year and there's not much data to work with, but the Russian ladies at World's had their real best performances in 2014 after Yulia did the Olympics and Pogorilaya did the Russia Cup Final.

The Russians are not invincible but there are so many good skaters - not great. Puberty though is attacking Rad - she really is growing but she is a huge fighter. Watch out for puberty to attack Med.

But Yulia is more reliable than both for the SP and I would hope that the Fed gives the nod to Yulia IF she proves that she's improving just as much in the LP since RN as the difference between TEB SP and Rus Nats SP.

Last season was completely different but unless Liza shows improvement in the SP I don't think she should be favored considering Yulia was also de facto world champion and the #1 world rankING skater last season when she was dropped. I just hope they don't have double standards but that who've performs the best out of Anna at Euros and Liza and Yulia at Russian Cup Final gets the nod.

Can you tell me more about the Russian Cup? I cannot find anything about it through Google as only the Russian nationals comes up!

LOL. I also love that Evgenia has that sympathetic smile, b/c she knows Elena is pissed off and disappointed. As irritated as I am that Evgenia is constantly winning over my favorites, I can't fault the girl b/c she has great programs this year and seems like a very mature, gracious winner. Maybe just cut down on the tanos. Please? She can probably win without them, TBH.

I actually think she will do just fine. She appears to have a naturally slim build like Yuna and Mao, and while she may have to deal some added height and weight next year, I don't really think we're going to see a melt-down, probably she will be more like Radionova, just gritting it out. I do think the field will be even deeper next year as Liza, Yulia, and even Adelina will hopefully be in good, fighting shape again, and Polina (and others) will be emerging from the juniors. Sigh, the Russian field is so deep, I feel bad for these girls, as only a few are allowed to shine internationally.

I found Elena's expression has been all like that recently. Partly because she is wearing braces, and partly because she lost to Evgenia all the time, and she truly believes she should win. She might be a future Russian version of Wagner. Evgenia does seem to be a very down-to-earth type of competitor. When she had a fall at junior worlds in 2014, she believed she were off the podium but found her in the 3rd. Judges love her for sure.

It was fun to see that Anna and Evgenia were snuggling at the current winners' area while Elena was alone by herself. Last year, she was snuggling with Liza.

Was re-watching Anna Porgorilaya's LP today. And noted a comment that I couldn't help but think true, which was, her falls are "nasty looking". Truly, watching her today made me feel literally feel the pain. :hopelessness:

Surely, skaters are taught what to do to safeguard themselves in case of wonky situation mid-air right? Watching her makes me wonder if she skipped all those lessons, if there are any.

She just has too fast entries and loses control. Too much adrenalin - she admitted that.

I rewatched her today too. In the past I was never really into her, but her skating is actually beautiful to me. She brings a presence to the ice.

I think the top 2 is pretty much decided, since Elena and Evgenia both have been quite consistent in their season and they probably will be 1 and 2 at Euros. Now, Anna should be sent to Euros, but she has to hold it together there, especially this year. Rajicova is on a rise, and if one of the russians has a bad competition, and she goes clean I can totally see Nicole getting a home bonus to get on the podium, and that would probably be pretty bad for a russian, especially if the second tiers are the likes of Sotnikova, Lipnitskaia and Tuktamysheva - even though their season was not stellar.

But we have to remember that Euros is all but a rehearsal for worlds. And this year in the US I doubt the competition is going to be so easy for the russians - they can't send anyone that might drag them down, and Anna, unfortunately, did a lot of that last year.

I'm kind of sorry to be right about the fact that Anna was bound to have another disappointing competition - and calling it the day after her amazing skate at RN.

Well, you weren't completely right (like I said...Nicole wasn't getting near that podium & Anna still did enough to medal), if it makes you feel any less sorry.

It's two things I think:

1.) She skates really fast into her jumps, so when she looses control in the air, she hits the ice hard and the momentum continues once she's down
2.) When she goes off axis and knows she's not going to land the jump, I think she stays in the rotating position as long as possible to get the full rotation of the jump. Most of the time when she falls the jump is fully rotated.

I get kind of sick of the people who keep going on and on about how she's trying to take herself out or fall so drastically. TSL likes to give her shade and say she's trying to hurt herself and retire her career, like come one, she wouldn't have skated so well at Nationals if she didn't want to compete anymore. There's a lot of pressure on her and I think that just gets to her and she occasionally loses focus after the big combos are done, which can be problematic when you're flying across the ice with that kind of speed and power.

It's the same deal as Courtney Hicks, Karen Chen, and Kaetlyn Osmond. They aren't crazy and trying to hurt themselves, it's just that when the adrenaline kicks in and you're flying across the ice like that, things can get a little scary.

Yeah, but Anna still left the door open, the problem was that the other girls didn't rise to the occasion. Nicole had problems both in the short and in the long, although her PCS sure were really on the higher side. But Anna had problems in both programs too. If she does it like this at Worlds she's gonna get buried in the standings. Again.
