Will confess that was absolutely not a fan of Adelina's at Olympics and still question those results. That being said, despite the fact that the jumps are not there for her right now, I find that I like her skating more now. I think Dancing with the Stars helped her. I am not Russian, but I prefer Radionova over Medvedeva. I don't dislike Medvedeva I just find her skating to be kinda robotic and stiff. Like she has no emotion out there.

Everyone has personal taste but "robotic"????? "no emotion"??? maybe we watched not same girl. I know you are a big Yulia fan . I need to say she is more robotic as Evgenia, she has no emotion on her face, sometimes she looks like she is bored with the program.

I am Russian I prefer Radionova because of her obvious charisma and fighting spirit, I mean, look how her body changed since last year, how much more mature she looks, yet she is still a medal contender, still lands her jumps and clearly wants to be number one. However, I'm fine with Evgenia beating her. She has much better programs (her LP, IMO, is one of the best I've ever seen in ladies skating) and always maximize her points on elements, while Elena often loses point on her landings here and there. We don't know what will happen to Evgenia even next year, but what she shows now is really really good. As for Elena, I think she has it all to be the first, once she clean up her jumps to get better GOE, maybe move something like 3Lz to the second half, and get better programs, she can beat Evgenia and anyone else, IMO.

All Lena needs are programms that will help her shine even more not the ones that she will carry only on her charisma alone. They clearly hold her back!

I think if you go back in this thread far enough, there are people claiming Evgenia overemotes...now she's robotic? The only time I ever saw her acting stiff and robotic was when she was actually playing a robot last season.

I don't have a problem with Yulia, but don't really consider myself a "big fan" of hers. There are other skaters that I view as stiff and stoic, but my comments were made about Evgenia because the discussion I was participating in was about Evgenia and Elena.

I recognize that I am in the minority in my views on Evgenia, but thats how I see her. I also hate her excessive tanos and backloading. I simple do not really care for her skating style. It could change. There have been skaters I have not enjoyed but later embraced.

Backloading in her SP has never been a problem for me. Imo it goes very well with the crescendo~ing music & really works!

And after all, people are free to achieve higher TES the way they want it.

As fans hate backloading and tanos, i can for example hate quads in pairs =D And then people ask to change rules to not give points for tanos and backloading and get upset when someone names an article "ban the quads" =D Its actually a rathr fun part of being a fan =P

So you are saying that the music/choreo calls for backloading and that the extra 10% points has nothing to do with it?

I would not go that far as saying that I hate backloading & tanos in Evgenia's programs but I find it annoying. I think it takes away some enjoyment from what could have been a very good program. As it is the balance is missing (and IMHO should be penalised in CH ) and we are reminded of the point collection every moment of it. Of course it is not a crime to wish to max the tech in every possible way but when it is done at the expense of overall construction of the program I find it hard to like it. As to tanos, less is more Evgenia less is more...

Do you not realize that the 99% of the people who just rush to do a 3-3 within 25 seconds at the beginning are also constructing a program to maximize their points?

Some of the greatest short programs were front-loaded like mad in the past you didn't get people complaining about how it ruined the 'construction' of the program.

But I still like Anna the best of the Russian Ladies this year.

Agreed that backloading isn't the real issue. I'm sure someone could create a wonderful SP with all the jumps in the second half. I just don't think Evgenia's program works. The beginning has no impact, and the end feels rushed. It might not be the right music, or maybe the timing on the elements is off. Her LP is much better.

What makes Evgenia's SP great is that it's structure, even if designed purley to squeeze out points, is unique. It starts off as a soft ballet on ice, if you will, and builds up toward the jumping passes. Now if this is overused in the future, people will start to get tired of such structure. But it's the same with everything in life. Things get bland when they are constantly repeated. The same faces on TV, appearing over and over again, get annoying... even if you don't dislike those people. Oh, and how many times have we heard: "Her opening combo... triple lutz, triple toe! Beautiful!".
So for now, Zhenia's SP structure is fresh and new to the senior scene and people like to see something different. This is the best women's SP of the season.

It's not new to the senior scene. Kanako Murakami's Prayer for Taylor SP and Satoko Miyahara's Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence SP started with a step sequence and had two jumping passes in the second half of the program (Murakami had her 3-3 in the second half). Evgenia having all of her jumping passes in the second half of the program does not make it the best SP of the season, for reasons that have already been mentioned in this thread. Her FS, however, is a program I'd call unique this season.

The only thing I wish to change in Zhenya's program is 3 jumping passes in a row. I don't mind it starting with a spin and a stsq as they seem to fit to the music (also it's a good strategy to make sure to get level 4 for stsq) but I'd rather like to see 2 jumps, a spin, a jump and then a spin in the end or something like that. Having 3 jumps in the beginning is often considered unproportional program structure... imo, 3 jumps in a row in the second half is better but not really well balanced either.

It's all good. I was just teasing a little bit. When I was saying Zhenia's FS was the best one for all ladies last season I took a good amount of grief even when including "IMO". I think it's just what we do to each other here
