Went to the practice tonight, which was pretty late, after 8 pm. Surprised to see Yuzu fall twice (as described by others) and was terrible to hear the loud sound when they hit the ice

---much worse in person than on TV. I sat in the 2nd row at the end of the rink and could see all their facial expressions clearly. Think Yuzu looked healthy, but not that happy in this practice session. Like everyone here says, it's better to get the falls and pops out of your system before the actual competition. He spent quite a lot of time talking to Brian and spent the end of the practice session doing stroking around the rink many times. There is a large contingent of mostly Japanese ladies that sat in the front; many of them recorded Yuzu on their cell phones and I was surprised that no one stopped them from doing so, but this would probably be different from at the actual event. Some moms had their kids with them---lucky kids to see skating at such a young age. There was a guy tapping signs with photography position numbers on the row of seats where I was, so maybe that's why I had a good view; usually don't have good seats so can't see very well. Of the 3 groups of men I watched at practice, there were quite a few falls. Both Boyang and Patrick missed jumps (seemed to be favoring his back, hope he's okay) and Kovtun didn't do any jumps and hardly "danced" at all during his run-through (maybe because the Russian men arrived late?). The rink looked small to me---at least relatively to other competitions In attended. Can't wait until the men's SP tonight---even if I'm a bundle of nerves. Will try to post my impressions tomorrow, since I know I won't get back to the hotel until very late.
