i find some of the comments in this thread very depressing. Who cares how many World titles Yuzu has? Yuzu changed the way men skate now in some way and opened the door to the 100 barrier in the short, the 200 barrier in the free and the need to at least put 2 quads in the short and 3 quads in the free. He had shown that great technical difficulties could be mastered and mixed with great artistry, or at least a charisma no else has. He showed us 5 flawless skates this season that have already become history. People in the whole figure skating world are in awe with him and still consider him as 'the best ever', even though he has less world titles than Chan and Fernandez now or won his Olympic gold with a flawed performance. Because they acknowledge him as a fearless pioneer and a perfectionist. Yuzu always adds up difficulties to himself and is not afraid of pushing the boundaries. It's what makes me both admire him and what usually frightens me so much about him. But he is who he is. He's always been like this. And most importantly: he's human!!! He wanted such a flawless performance that his mind broke down a little too soon. And yet this takes nothing away from his achievements.

I want to adress the quoted words. Javi is his friend. They train together. They support each other. They learn from each other. Javi is not as gifted as Yuzuru, everything Javi won so far was a result of him learning to work hard watching Yuzuru, never give up, overcome pain and dispair (learning that from Yuzuru too). And the fact that Yuzu prayed for Javi before LP says a lot to me. He wanted to win himself. But perhaps he also felt that he could have a performance that would not be up to his own standart (athletes usually feel that deep inside of their mind) and if there was any other person he would have to let have that gold was perhaps only Javi. Javi has great programs this season, he has grown so much in artistry and he has had a clean performance in LP that I've been waiting for the entire season. He was great. He was the real champion last night (5am for me). I absolutely admire the fact that given his pain and injury he could put himself together and deliver that beautiful skate. Especially after the painful skate from his friend whom he admires a lot. Was there any other skater with same quality who could beat Yuzu? I think Patrick could have but he did not deliver the skate of his life again as it was in FCC. And I'm sure Javi will find the words to comfort Yuzu because this is how their friendship works.

I forced myself to watch his performance and well Chan is quite right, the ice condition didn't helped either. I am surprised how loud the ice was creaking on takeoffs
 
Yu're right in some points- the thing is: imagine the world in 10 or 20 years.
Well, Miki Ando won the Worlds twice, but not many non-Japanese casual FS veiwers remembers her. Worlds is no comparison to the Olympic Gold and multiple World Record holder and who changed the landscape of FS.

Wow...you're so negative....Javier is a great skater and he deserved to be World Champion. He handled pressure better than Yuzuru and Patrick. Yuzuru makes mistakes and it's not like every title out there belongs to him up to 2018. He has to fight for them and I'm sure he will. They're both great skaters - sure I prefer Yuzuru but Javier really made enormous progress over last couple years.

Javi is a good guy, he really is. Again- his score last night was absolutely fair. And I question his SP score a bit, so that you know.
As per retirement- that is up to Yuzu himself. I am simply grateful for him to let us witness his ups and downs in figure skating so far. His path in sport is the one to admire. He is a legend already.
Yuzu battles his demons. I think we all need to do the same when we feel frusrated.;)

5-10 years from now, people might not even remember these championships or who medaled or didn't. What people will remember from this season is the magical and exciting skates that evoked something for most people. Yuzuru pushed the sport forward, technically and artistically. He got people emotionally invested, not in the quads or the edges, but for his sheer determination and passion for skating and thats greater than any medal.

I know sometimes he can get caught up in winning and sometimes...obessed.. But i feel its because he wants to express his love for skating the most and show how much he loves it which sadly most people can only translate through a gold medal. That and he is competitive :biggrin:

I undestand your disappointment but your messages have so much negativity in them- why are you personally so frustrated? Because he did not deliver up to your expectations? Did he have to? I mean- it is so selfish to be mad at someone who you like and who doesn't happen to be or act the way you imagine them to. He is a human, he can have failures too. I don't care about haters, come on. I don't care what they say- his WR stands still. That's the fact. And as long as he challenges himself and grows technically, artistically, personally- I'm gonna stick by him. I am much older and he is such an inspiration to me.

I understand how you feel Lillian, sometimes I feel frustrated as you're feeling too. I went to Yuzu GPF and NHK youtube videos, even with his world record score there are still haters that saying he is not this and that compared to certain other skaters etc.

I'm still learning how to deal with all these...sometimes I'm ok...sometimes I'm not. And I learnt a lot from the fans here and FB to just ignore them or what anybody else think. All for one and one for all :)

I love everything about Yuzu and not only his skating, he is an inspiration to all.

I'm with you, Sorrento. I'm actually glad that Javi delivered a great performance, I wouldn't want Yuzu to win with such a subpar performance and what Javi accomplished is admirable and I hope Javi will become the one to challenge Yuzu to do well. Perhaps the knowledge that there is someone out there who is so close to him and not only can beat him but already has, twice, will force Yuzu's fighting spirit to win over his demons.
 
Like all of you I'm so sad because Yuzu would have wanted the gold. But think of all that he's faced so far. Both outside obstacles and inner demons. He has overcome them all and he will overcome this one too.
I'll wait a bit before watching any more videos as my heart can't take it, but He is resilient and always looks forward. I'm looking forward to his iceshows and also to his next programs. Go Yuzu.
 
I think that this defeat will serve Yuzu well. Last year he was injured and didn't train much before Worlds so there were excuses (even if he didn't use them). But this year he was healthy (mostly), had two great programs and outstanding performances during first part of the season. He needs to find out what was wrong with his mental state during this competition and try to improve it. I'm pretty sure that Yuzu is frustrated that his next chance to beat Javier will be at next GPF :biggrin: (I assume they'll both qualify) Can't wait!:love:

No, they already do take him seriously. Do you know why? The cheer on the arena after his performance was very supportive. It was heartfelt, not unimpressed. And at press conference people tried not to ask him too many questions because they care about him, no one really wanted to hurt him. This is what people do when they see a strong person having a meltdown- they respect his feelings. He is a great athlete and has respect and recognition not only from people in his sport but even from other sports too. And that is a great achievement.
 
Yuzu said himself that it was a mental problem, not a physical one.

Yuzu has the right to blame himself, but we, as fans, do not.

Expectation and failure to meet the expectation can lead to disappointment, but again, fans choose to have expectation.




Why do we have to blame someone?

A parent what will do after a child's failure. He told him that he was not his fault, things happened. I think if we will say it is his fault we are not like good parents, agree ? And he is very hard to himself anyway. What we must do is to comfort him. I pray that we saw a GPF programme but this was a immense pressure for him, the score that he achieved in the past, don,t you think ? We have some smart words, " A FRIEND IN NEED IS A FRIEND INDEED" He doesn't need for blame him, he blame himself already. We must trust in him and realize how beauty gave us in our lives, the programmes that we saw over and over again. And we learn lessons of life. How hard must be from a 16 years old to become stronger after a terrific tsunami that he scared him so much that he wants to stop skating because he had not the right to do what he liked because of suffering so many people. He showed us how not to give up after China injuries that scared us so much. He learned us how hard you can work after a stomach surgery, and for me is a HERO. I DON'T BLAME HIM , JUST CRY WITH HIM :cry: :cry: :cry:
BUT I HAVE FAITH IN HIM THAT HE WILL WORK AS HARD AS UNTIL NOW TO BECAME BETTER AND BETTER.

It comforts me that through the rough times for Yuzu and his fans, we can support each other and look on the bright side.

A silver medal! -Yuzu, Congratulations. 3 years on the podium. Next time it will be gold. You will make it happen. No one else can.
 
Well, I just wanted to add that yesterday I couldn't sleep over my heartbreak but today feels much brighter. It's a shame Yuzu didn't deliver at his last performance but still, he had a really good season, there's lots to be proud of. It's sport, you win you lose. Yesterday I thought I wouldn't be able to enjoy the rest of the championships but today I'm really looking forward to the ladies. To put matters in perspective, try being an Anna Pogorilaya fan...:laugh:
 
Yuzuru always says that when he fails, it is good in a meaning because there is something he can improve more.
The result this time was surely a shock for him, but I'm pretty sure he has already started putting things in perspective and is reconstructing his mind for the next challenge. He has found that he is still weak in many aspects, and it will be his another motivation to go forward. It's Yuzuru we love :yes2:

But, honestly, I will miss Seimei. How about bringing it back for 2017-2018 Olympic season with 4 loop?
