Anna Pogorilaya

Anna was amazing in Boston! Lovely fabulous Anna please never break our hearts again. Congratulations!

I am soooooo happy for Anna! I've really liked her for a few years now and have believed for sure that she had the potential to do this, but it's so awesome to see it materialize!! :yahoo: Hopefully she can be even stronger next year! She has a really mature, powerful skater and I actually think with some consistency she could be World Champion one day.

You were fabulous out there my Russian princess :luv17:

Well, as a fan who has been rooting for her since I discovered her at WC14, I think the final result is correct (even if I wish she had got the silver medal, of course). On the one hand you could see a skater who was wonderful but did not convey much feeling and looked as though she was reciting her lesson, on the other hand you had a somewhat weaker skater from a technical standpoint (more mistakes and a lower technical mark) but endeavouring to really perform her program. I am completely unable to determine whether a five point gap between them in the second mark is fair or not but at the end of the day I do agree with the overall ranking.
No doubt she will keep on making progress: selling her programs, living them, smiling at least a little bit while she skates...
Anyway, who am I to say that, I am only a fan, and wholeheartedly impressed by what she did !

By the way does anyone know who was the guy who supported her before both of her programs and handed her her skate guards afterwards?

I'm going to be hanging out here a lot more! As I mentioned, Anna blew me away when I saw the SP in person. I am thrilled she got on the podium and proved all her doubters wrong! Can't wait to see where she goes form here. :party2:

Welcome to Team Anna! (If you will check my OP at the bottom of the first post, you will see I have been a member for a long time, since her days in juniors.

Well done, Anna! :yahoo: :cheer: Great skating!!!

Thank you Anna! It would be great if this achievement will give her confidence boost for next season!

Not to mention, a PCS boost, and more respect, especially in Russia.

woooo, who said she was so inconsistent that she doesn' stand a chance of getting a medal :laugh15::taunt:
congrats Anna :hap10:
hahah I was in total impression of that all year long:laugh2:

gonna hang my head in shame!:biggrin:
Good for her! & Im gonna be again shushed for praizing Morozov but hwer programms were aweosme & a total fit for her! So kudos to him!!:agree:

Many congratulations to Anna for her bronze medal, what a great job!

I watched her live at the Europeans and I was so sad that she had those awful falls. :( I like her skating and at the Europeans despite of the mistakes she looked gorgeous on the ice, she's got a special presence.

I hoped that she can skate at the Worlds like she did at the Nationals. And she did it! I am glad she could overcome her problems and showed the world what she is capable of. :agree:

She is gorgeous and has a presence on the ice. Congrats to Anna on the world bronze she should have won 2 years ago.

I noticed her from the corner of my eyes last season, but her wonderful performances absolutely wrestled me out of any level of indifference and left me absolutely no choice in becoming a massive Anna fan :D

So hi everyone !

She is gorgeous and has a presence on the ice. Congrats to Anna on the world bronze she should have won 2 years ago.

She should have won silver here too...but no matter, cause she'll jump both of those medals for gold next year!

I think this big international success gives Anna lots of confidence in the next season.

It should help the judging I think. Now she is a medalist and judges can no longer ignore her, like they used to over the current season. Even at Boston, her PC´s were not where they belong, she is such an underrated skater, I love how much power and emotion she brings to the ice.

had to pop up there to share my feel about Anna being my biggest discovery of this Boston Worlds. She was never my favourite to be honest - there was always something 'off' about her for me: music, choreography, style, costume, but at Worlds I saw a full range and potential in her skating and a rare ability to present drama in very 'subtle' and toned way. Her speed and upper body movement are particularly impressive in my opinion (especially among all Russian ladies or more girls), loved the way she expressed herself in both programs.

She looks the most mature among all Russian ladies/girls despite being only 17 (my mum did not believe me when I told her she's 17) - there is something 'regal' around her which suits so well with all that 'big' and 'dramatic' music like Bolero or Scheherezade. I somehow felt like presence of Adoniev alongside Tsareva's gave her bigger boost and determination to do well and boy - how well she did.

To be honest - she is a true silver medallist for me (I am not a fan of too much facial expression Moulin Rouge from Ashley...), she showed a fighter spirit when it counted the most. A lot of people have written her of and questioned if she should go to Worlds at all, but the way she skated is the best response on that.

My biggest hope is that she stays healthy, motivated, will get good programs with suitable choreography and BETTER COSTUMES - she's one of the most stunning ladies in figure skating EVER, please give her some stunning costumes which would be complimentary to her beauty!

I agree, but I actually liked her costumes. Maybe the skirt for the FS program was a bit too long, but the SP dress was nice and edgy, it did fit the music. I also liked her ex tango costume. She's already an artist, her ex programs are always unusual and interesting. Stunning skater.

What do you call a female bromance? I love the relationship of Evgenia and Anna. They look like such good friends. They are like Yuzuru and Javier.

I have always believed in Anna. I knew it was possible and I've been her fan since, I guess it was Cup of China 2013, when she beat Carolina Kostner and Sotnikova and won that competition. I thought wow, she's amazing. I was angry that she didn't get a medal in 2014 and I remember getting into arguments about that fact here on GS. I still can't believe she was only 4th in the FS 2016. I don't get how Satoko can beat a skater like Anna. While I think her SP is better than her FS, she was still held down. The judges do not like her. I hope this had changed, but that hope might be in vain. *sigh*

Little late to the party, but congrats Anna for your AMAZING performances at worlds and your first worlds medal!!!:cheer::love:

That SP is easily one of the - if not flat out the best performances on the ladies side for me this season. It just had everything: speed, power, confidence, passion, engagement, musicality, big jumps... not to mention Anna did that after having to skate last after Gracie. Ashley was great and she deserves major props for keeping it together and delivering here, but IMO, Anna should have had the silver. But I'm happy she looked as thrilled on the podium as she did anyway.

Hopefully this will give her more confidence and make it clear to the judges they should not hold her down anymore. She will need to deliver at the start of next season I think, to really keep the momentum going, but the judges can't be that blind. After her strong showing here, who would want to bet against her anymore? Can't wait to see her improve even more in the near future!

If she is now viewed within Russia as the second best Russian lady, perhaps it will change as of now.

#fingerscrossed
May it be so! I love ber huge jumps and general panache!

It is a hard slog to get judges' respect if you are seen as somewhere between the third and sixth Russian lady, and inconsistent to boot.

(Other five senior claimants, Medvedeva, Tuktamysheva, Lipnitskaia, Radionova, Sotnikova. Not to mention Tsurkaya, Sotskova, and Sakhonovich.)

Tuktamysheva, Lipintskaia, Sakhanovich need to restore. How can they do it in future, nobody knows. But Tuktamysheva restored twice in past, and Lipnitskaia once, so it is possible.
Sotnikova needs to find the motivaton, now she hasn't.
Tsurskaya is not Senior eligible next season.
Sotskova just now is lower level than Senior leaders of season. Of course she has a good chance to progress, but for now it's so.

Leaders in Ladies change from season to season.
Only Pogorilaya (3 seasons) and Radionova (2 seasons Championships, 3 seasons GP) are in leading part of Team Russia all seasons when they are Senior age eligible.
