Yu/Jin & Peng/Zhang switch partners

I am rewatching their program - and I find their so unique - it’s a pity what federation is trying to do

And given that you are the poster who seems to think everything was perfectly fine with the judging at those test skates where Yu/Jin came 4th, you can just say that because you are obviously unbiased and can judge, in contrast to others? :rolleye:

I did not comment on the judging but reported the fact that they came fourth. I'm not prone to think I can judge better by watching an amateur video of only the LP. Jin himself accepted the judging by explaining that they didn't do their best and they needed more refinement. So they went clean but probably did not score high enough on GOE, and maybe even levels.

I wonder if you could offer a correct translation then, as it relates to the thread.

I don't have time yet but let me point out that in explaining the difficulty in finding Zhang a new partner and how limited the choices were, Coach Yao specifically said, "......because basically the more mature Junior Pairs shouldn't be moved (split)."

As to Dan's weight, it was said that given her height, her weight could not be lower, more an acceptance of the fact than evidence that she had been forced to lose weight.

Also, AFAIK, Dan didn't expressed any negativity toward Hao but was encouraging his continuing his competitive career with "Go, Big Hao!" The article discussed here also mentions that Dan, the original part of #3 (third sibling), had come to Shanghai to cheer her old partner on as a spectator.

Yao explained Peng needed more maturity but her youthfulness offered fun and amusement during the difficult process of hard work and training. Objective assessment and affection is what I read.

Just some of the contents of the report that the FSU poster's judgements are at odds with.

But I personally wouldn't mind seeing a Jin/Peng pairing. I think they make a better looking pair.

I feel bad for Zhang though. He deserves a suitable partner. But I would like to see a Jin/Peng paring and think they make a beautiful chinese pair :)

You keep repeating that Peng and Jin would make a beautiful pair. Beautiful in what way? It is not a beauty pageant contest. The attractive physical appearance is just a very small fraction of what makes a successful pair. And lets not forget, Yu does not want to switch, so the whole "Peng/Jin attractivness" seems even more secondary and unimportant.

ETA And, as other mentioned below, I do not find anything wrong with Yu/Jin appearance. Quite the opposite, they look beautiful together.

what makes beautiful pair is realy subjective - I find Yu very beautiful

A beautiful team is a team that has chemistry, connection. And Yu and Jin really have this. Their style kind of reminds me of Pang/Tong.
Of course, they will probably not be in the fight for a medal at the 2018 Olympics but they could definitely be on the podium in 2022. With Sui/Han and Yu/Jin, China could even have two teams on the Olymic podium in 2022, I don't understand how the federation can be so blind. Sui/Han got to the level they have today because they grew up together as a team and also Shen/Zhao and Pang/Tong skated together for many years, Yu/Jin should be given the same chance.
On the other side, I don't think Yu will ever get to the same level with Zhang, as their styles seem totally different. I never understood this "unconditional love" that the federation has for Zhang. Ok, he might be a strong skater, but that is all. I never felt any connection between him and either one of his two partners (Dan and Peng) and I don't think he will be able to create one with Yu.

One of the whistle-blowers (who kinda comes and goes) just said Yu and Zhang have been training together for 6 days. It's basically a done deal.

This will come back to bite Chinese fed. They could've had two good teams for 2018. Now they will only have Sui/Han, and the Chinese fed better hope they don't get further injury...

Agree, and she and Jin have a good connection.

What makes the whole situation crazy to me is why the Fed is so intent on switching these two girls out. They are pretty alike. Yu is all of 1 year older than Peng and at most 3 cm taller (I think Peng grew so realistically they are probably around the exact same height now), build wise they are similar and probably have about the same weight. So like, why switch to a new girl that's a lot like the current girl and is part of a successful partnership already?

I mean, if they wanted to give Zhang an older or smaller partner, I'd maybe understand it a little bit, but this is just crazy. You switch Peng with a different girl who is the same age, same height, same weight, you really think anything is going to change?? It won't. I'm so annoyed by this. I also worry for you. I heard she's really shy, soft-spoken, nerdy type of girl, she would not do well with someone like Zhang chucking her around on the ice. Jin seemed more reserved and gentle, so they were a good match. I don't blame Peng for wanting to get out, but please, don't do this to Yu!

That seems like the side effect of pairing up Yu and Zhang. Two sides of the same coin. If we're upset about Yu and Zhang, we're upset about Peng and Jin by definition.

But you're right. Jin is a better match to Peng than Zhang. She's probably gonna improve once the pressure is off. But from Jin's perspective, Yu is still a better partner than Peng.

Peng is a better match to Jin than Zhang sure, but so is Yu. Neither Yu or Peng matches well to Zhang, they are too delicate for him. Ugh. This is awful.

Given the absolute control the Chinese government - whoops, sorry, federation - exerts over their people? I'm sure there are plenty of nasty things they are willing to do to get what they want. Especially if Zhang decided to quit and they decided to blame Yu for it, as they surely would.

Between causing this drama and chucking his partners recklessly across the ice, you would think the sensible thing for China to do would be retire Zhang, find Peng a new partner, and let Yu/Jin stay together.

If Zhang can't make it work with a willing partner, how he manages to make it work with a reluctant one is totally beyond me. Instead of trying to improve the current partnership, he or whoever is calling the shots tends to think the best solution is to get another partner. It's always the girl's fault. Dan Zhang is too tall. Peng is too weak-minded. Wait for them to find fault with Yu. Oh, I know, Yu is too disobedient! Ugh...

6 days... If that was true, why no official announcement is released from the federation until now? I'm curious...and disappointed at the same time. I'm not asking you for it though.

The Chinese Fed doesn't have the habit of announcing anything... All the other news comes out pretty much the same way. This time is especially shady though. They think it happens in Canada so no one will know... The news was leaked anyway and now it kinda blows up in their faces. So they just choose to play dead and ignore all the protest coldly.

Maybe it's only a test phase?

The self-claimed insider/whistle-blower thinks it's set in stone. Some details of his intelligence are kinda hit and miss, but overall he seems to be credible. Plus that IFS Magazine post, it's not looking good...

IFS went back and deleted their comment where they told someone that it wasn't a rumor and that they "had confirmation".

That's interesting... I checked like an hour ago and the comment was still there.

It's definitely gone now. All there is the other comment from them saying that maybe it is only a trial, and that we'll have to "wait and see".

I would call this a bad PR move, but I guess if they don't have to give a **** about anybody's opinion in the first place, then why would they care if this makes them look bad :roll9: Technically, can this even "blow up in their faces" if they don't give a damn about what anybody thinks anyway?

If there's one thing that's definitely not happening anywhere, it's "wait and see"
