Kevin Reynolds

well well... i think i'm not the only one who thinks that SC wanted KR at WC.... too bad for the tes min back then....77 or about points would have put him in top 15 at worlds...and a chance to do better in the lp... so that's encouraging... next year, he should aim for a top 10 or so, and by olympics, we will see :) GO KEVIN!!!!

i noticed one judge gave him +3 GOE on his STSQ4 :) actually his stsq was his best skated elements... this is encouraging

so happy :hap57:

I think Skate Canada needs to send its skaters who have won medals at Challenge and/or are top 5 at Nationals to Senior Bs to make sure they get the minimum TES marks for each season. They do that with their junior kids for junior Worlds, but they are a bit more lax about the senior skaters. Had Kevin gone to more Senior Bs between December and March he may have gotten the minimum TES he needed.

considering the TES minumum is just barely met with a guy who goes for 4S-3T, 3A and 3F... WOW... ok it was downgraded (the quad) but i think that the TES is really high isn't it? without a 3A you cannot get it....

The quad was underrotated. Not downgraded. Some of his elements got zero GOE and only one element got 1.00+ GOE. Hey at least the 3A got landed AND he still garnered 11+ points on the combo.

He's still coming back so I'm going to cut some slack on him. Keep in mind that the surgery he had, almost NO ONE comes back.

True. But keep in mind, I'm not sure if they wanted him to do too much in a very short period of time.

I wish they did that too.

Skate Canada unfortunately got a slap in the face at Worlds for the men's discipline.

Honestly I WISH the ISU makes a rule for wavering some skaters in these circumstances.

i meant UR :) but yeah... i guess the goe is a factor .. so for a guy without a quad tes minimum is possible with high goe... i just think that a guy like kr should be way clear of the minimum with his content... in any case, glad he has it now and is on the right track for better :) let's see what he gets for the lp :) i hope he tries his 3-3-3 again :)

I think they should have seen the results from Golden Spin of Zagreb and Kevin's results at 2016 Challenge and thought about it a bit more. They did use those results and the Nationals to send Nicolas to junior Worlds. But they did seem really undecided about who to send and it all kind of backfired. Have more faith in Kevin in advance next time!

Kevin's ISU bio states, "Reynolds has also landed a quad-triple-triple combination in competition (at the 2008 Canadian Championships)." Wonder if we'll ever see that. That would be so cool!

then a few months later, we can already see a lot of progress in spins and skating.. skate america 2008 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNv0HK_zFhk

Sorry, I meant to say if we'll see it again.

And he was such a baby back then!! But that combo was so good. I think Plushy used to do them too. That reminds me - Kevin almost beat his FS score in Sochi in the team event.

Well I hope Kevin has an awesome FS today and has no regrets.

we could.. .. but honestly, it doesn't serve him with the zayak... we do not want him to repeat 3T nor 3L... what would be nice for him would be

4S
4S-3T
4T
3A
3A-2T
3LZ
3F
3L-1/2L3S

however he doesn't like the 3A that much.. so another option would be

4T
4S-3T
4T-2t
4S
3A
3F
3Lz
3L-1/2-3S

that would be wicked ;)

but still not featuring the great 4-3-3 or 3-3-3..

Oh man what I would give to see Patrick Chan skate that first layout... :hap93:

But yes, with the two quads Kevin can really explore his options. We'll leave those 3-3-3 to Medvedeva. :)

Might he become the 2nd Canadian man heading to Worlds next year with that kind of layout? (Probably depends on Nadeau, but maybe, just maybe....)

hehe patrick would most likely do
4S
4t-3T
3A
4T
3A-2T
3Lz-1/2-3S
3F
3L
:)

and medvedeva... well she will not do 3-3-3 unless she gets a 3A... or a quad... not worth it for her...

KEVIN THOUGH...

remember he was working on 4L? he wanted to be the first man to land 3 different quads in LP... so........ perhaps we will see something like

4Lo
4S-3T
4T
4S
3A
3Lz-3T
3L
3F-2t-2L

or something like that :)

what we can say is that Canada is quad lucky :)

Well.....he didn't do as well as we wish he did. But he still got 2nd. I'm still proud of him regardless. And this season I feel like was more than we ever thought he was going to do. And for that, huge props to him.

But I watched the stream, and there were a lot of URs. He fought hard though.

I did some "research" (Looking at Wikipedia), and Kevin won more medals this season than Patrick Chan. Which I know most of them were for qualification competitions or small international competitions, but still.

Protocol up and WOW. Kevin attempted a 4T-3T-3Lo. IN THE 2ND HALF. Sure there was an UR AND a downgrade....but that alone garnered 12.61 points. Which was the highest scoring element out of all the men. If he landed it cleanly it the 2nd half, it would have gotten at least 21.78 points.

Impressed that he went for it. Like VERY impressed.

Is it me, or does it seem like he's having trouble on that Lz. I noticed in the past few competitions.

yes, the issue seems that he didn't go for his 3 first passes and tturn one revolution less on each of them... that's too bad....

the combo is EXCITING!!! it's back on Mango!!! (still needs work but it's in the making)

yeah.... with the lz, it seems to be problematic... I was wondering why he inserted the 3F in his SP, that may explain it.... if you look at this program skated clean, its content is very competitive....
I m the planned content was

4S
4T
3A
4T-3T-3L
2A-2T (I guess that this could have been either 3A-2t or 2A-3T... probably the latter but in this event he did a double-double to avoid the zayak of the Toe jump)
3Lz
3F
3S

there's room for another 2T or 2L ?

He tends to UR..would that make such a jump more difficult?

Interesting point. 1/2 loop combos do sometimes not look well on some skaters.

i don't think the UR is the issue for him but just that he has often done 3 jumps combo with "real jumps" 4-3-3 or 3-3-3 and as he has 2 different quads, but doesn't like the 3A, it's okay for him to repeat one of the lower value jumps (the 3T)... i think that's probably the main reason.

also, for UR skaters : Alaine is always using the half loop combo... and she's known for UR... as a matter of fact, most ladies get a call on the third jump in that combo... it's just quite hard and very few manage to do it well.... I don't like it much to be honest... i prefer "real jumps" combos like Kevin does...
