No reason to overreact. From my experience Russians like multi-kulti. It's the second out of only two nations in a world which could successfully build true multi-ethnical and tolerant society. It all came from their Soviet times: you know "friendship oF people, death to imperialists" and all that jazz. Hehe. :)

It's ok among Russians to comment and even crack jokes about their minorities. They even have a saying: scratch any Russian and you will find a Tatar underneath. ;) There is no silly political correctness in Russia. They giving it straight. And it's considered a weakness to not having a stomach to accept humor. However there is always a line when any humor becomes offensive and purposely obnoxious even in Russia. When joke is not funny any more, Russians usually don't cross it. In way it's a good thing, but for a westerner it usually takes some time to get used to it and to develop thick skin. It's called humor. ;) Kinda in a way it reminds me a witty humor by George Carlin (famous standup comedian): harsh, but very true. Russians are good in accepting and laughing along any joke or stereotype made by westerners about how they drink vodka all the time and have pet bears ridding bicycles on the streets of their cities. They would gladly laugh along about it too. Howeve, they heard it so many times they probably roll their eyes first, but then have a good laugh.

Making fun of each other's appearances and ethnical features is ok in Russia. Along some other weird things. Seriously. It's not good, not bad. It's just the way it is. Its their country and they seamed to live in it just fine. It's not personal thing to make fun or offend someone who doesn't look Slavic. Russia is truly multi-cultural and multi-ethnical nation. As for childish teasing: kids always will be kids and will always tease each other, until someone older spank them. Btw, a little spanking is perfectly allowed in Russia too. :thumbsup:

People of different (you know, not Russian typical fair blonde with blue/gray eyes type) ethnicity learn from the very childhood to not be toO touchy-touchy about their differences from others. Teachers, coaches, university professors treating them all the same. It's just the police sometimes being extra-cautious and suspicious towards those of Middle-Asia origins. But it's a their domestic security issues, I heard. Growing up from ethnical minorities in Russia does not gives you any moral claims to blame in your shortcomings someone else or your non-Slavic ethnicity. You have to study and train as hard as anyone else there. No excuses.

There is no food stamps in Russia. You wanna eat: accept all national traditions, study and work. Period. And Medvedeva here is a good example. She made it all by herself. I doubt what she can say someone discriminated her and did not give her a fair chance based on her not-perfectly-Russian looks. Her couch Eteri is half-Georgian herself. Armenia and George currently not two very friendly to each other now. However, Eteri and Zhenya seemed to be a great team. They communicate in Russian and getting along just well.

Medvedeva is a self-made, "American Dream" of Russia. :lol: She is from not the poorest, neither from the very wealthy family. Possible lower middle class of Russia. I did not know she had Armenian in her tho. I though she is one of us, you know Russian-speaking Jews. :) You know something is in her big sad eyes a bit Jewish. We have our own big Armenian diaspora here in LA. They are very emotional and charismatic people. Hot-tempered too. Rafik Arutyunyan makes a perfect Armenian with his passionate hand gesturing when he speaks something he is interested about. There is no harm being Armenian, especially in Russia.

I heard they like mixed ethnical marriages in mother Russia a lot. (Accept probably those Caucasian little republics) :yes:

Palms closing ears: "I can't hear you"
Running fingers: "but I have a goosebumps..." (deaf people are extremely sensitive to air vibrations, they can feel it with the skin when somebody is speaking)
Crossing hands together, drawing an oval in the air and pulling palms toward her chest: "...because I can feel you with my heart only..." (probably about intuition, most deaf people are extremely sensitive and very intuitive)
Nodding head down, pushing away held together palms towards looker, raising head and opening eyes wider : "..., but I don't fear you..."
Spreading hands with palms high up and open in a welcoming manner: "and I'm open to/for you."

So, to summarize: I can't hear you, but I have a goosebumps, because I can feel you with my heart, I don't fear you and I'm open to you.

As you probably know the story is about the girl, who is partially deaf and also train with Medvedeva on the same rink under iron fist of the Eteri Tutberidze, who happen to be her mother as well. So it's about Tutberidze's daughter. She can partially hear, but mostly trying to read lips and intuitively understand what people are taking around. She can hear the music a bit and air vibration to follow the rhythm.

Quite a tear-jerking, I know. But its so Averbukh tho. Remember his monumental free dance program of 2002: Moment for Peace or Time for Peace. Smth like this. Dedicated to the memory of 9/11 tragedy. At the very end his female partner Lobacheva literally is falling out of his hands and collapsing almost to the ice surface. Classic Avebukh. He is a sucker for some of those powerful symbolisms.

Wow! Thank you so much!!! It's a beautiful program, with an even more beautiful meaning behind it. I just watched the documentary posted a few pages back. I knew it was about a deaf girl, but I had no idea that she was Eteri's daughter. Heavy symbolism, but I think it really helps the program.

I thought Eteri chroreographed this for Yulia? I guess not. I've never heard much about Avebukh, but he is an excellent choreographer! Thanks so much for the translation :agree:

Yeah. I guess it is helping Medvedeva to personally connect to the story behind this choreography since she knows the whole meaning and she actually shares the rink with Eteri's daughter almost every day. For the last few years at least. :)

Yep. Pretty much. Averbukh created this one for Lipnitskaya. But according to Eteri, Yulia was "too afraid to skate to this", not to sure what she meant, but it's her own direct quote. So this choreography was given to the next in line prodigy-lady aka Medvedeva.

Per his words this program is not just about tear-jerking, but it's actually very bright, it's about love. About all of us as a whole. About the letting go "this own inner music" outside of yourself, so it can involve everyone in the audience.

Evgenia was asked if her heart is free, she laughed: "may be yes, may be not".
At the end she was asked about sign language used in choreography. She said it was all Averbukh's idea. Ilya Averbukh added that they wanted to talk to the whole world and to be understood by everyone. Hopefully it happened. Across all language and cultural barriers.

Well, it's hard to explain. But apparently someone from Sambo-70 sport school is extremely proud what "they won those Sotnikova and Tutktamysheva". :)

New Year Eve. JAN 1, 2016. Morning. 4 am.

Someone with the name Marina is probably had too much champagne and caviar. :yes: It is mostly here voice so loud. It sounded like Eteri with her daughter Diana Davis were partying somewhere else, but after that, closer to the morning (4am) decided to stop by that Marina for a little.

Eteri constantly was offered tea or red wine, which she refused: "No wine - I'm driving". But this woman Marina is clearly a bit drunk, she literally said: "we *freaking* defeated those Sotnikova and Tukt". She complained that everyone apparently were not taking Sambo-70 sport school seriously and not treating them properly, she dropped few strong words (not towards anyone, but in general). Specifically, some hints of fierce rivalry with CSKA were made. Marina congratulated Eteri and praised her for such a big achievement (1st @ Nationals?). She tried to go on and on further complaining about how they ( Sambo-70 school) ere mistreated in the past and tried to brag some more about victory over CSKA, but Eteri cut her short couple times and finally burst: "Enough already. It was not really that bad. Please stop this or I will just leave." Eteri probably showed some class there and obviously did not want to be part of discussions like this. She just said that in 2 and half week there would be another start (competition) and there are more important things ahead. Her daughter Diana did not really said much, she was a quite couch flower and just dropped that her legs are tired after wearing high heels. :)

The only useful information I took out of this video: da Iron Lady Eteri Tutberidze was sober on New Year Eve. She and her daughter was partied somewhere together. Eteri seems to be careful what she says, doesnt do gossips/complains and prefer others not to do it around her. Tutberidze's daughter Diana Davis should be more careful with her periscope button - no need to stream their family private life online. ;) However, Eteri just scored few more points in my book.

Sambo-70 is probably not that huge and rich as CSKA, but they are pretty respected and big in Moscow. Originally this school is very strong in martial arts, fighting sports like boxing, judo, sambo and combat sambo, taekwando and similar. They probably are well financed because some serious big businessmen are behind it, as a lot of them were training in this sport school in their youth/childhood. I don't think Sambo-70 is mistreated or underfinanced. I heard that Eteri has great conditions, professional team and big stuff around her. Not too sure what this Marina was complaining about..

Thanks. I just gotta say how I am amazed with ability of fans to find any possible video or information about their favorite athelte. Someone obviously watched every singles video in Eteri's daughter periscope account. Cut out the most interesting part and uploaded it on youtube. That's quite a dedication. :)

Everybody knows about fierce rivalry among Russian skate teams (they have even a "puppet'' journalists and bloggers). So... this is war...
