Elena Radionova

I can't stop watching Lena's new EX!!! I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!! :yes2:

I really hope she skates to something upbeat next season so she can use her charisma!

This was really sweet to see, even though Lena was probably feeling horrible...

LOL at how Lena always manages to get to a prime position.

**

This is an old article from before Worlds about some skater's costumes, in particular Lena's black lace costume from Euros.
http://matchtv.ru/articles/chtoby-v...ekhniku-kakimi-dolzhny-byt-platya-figuristok/

I thought this quote (from the designer Vladimir Mandrikov) was particularly interesting:
I think Lena is very well-suited to the style of Katarina Witt. Especially the costumes she wore in the 80s. Lena is very artistic and expressive, and that's why her clothes need to be a little more concise [simple]. Among the modern athletes, more than others pleases Carolina Kostner. Dresses that are especially created for her by Roberto Cavalli, perfect. I know that the Italian designers like Lena as much as Carolina. And they would gladly agree to work with her.

If that's really true, maybe Lena should try to work with some Italian designers!!

But unless they give her the costumes for free, I'm guessing it would be quite expensive. She probably would want to be involved in the creation of the costume, or she would need to be fitted at the very least, so she would have to travel to Italy...

I've liked all the costumes that Lena helped design this year. (I don't think she was involved in the Worlds one, which I hated.) So I hope she continues to be involved and has nice costumes, even if it means she won't get them for free.

Here is that dress with famous Ocean Wave print. Found on the website of that Russian fashion designer. Scroll to the bottom. Others look more interesting tho.

Apparently Japanese fans are extremely pleased with the use of that Japanese print.

P.S. Girls, don't ruin your family's budget. Please. :)

Haha, well I bet Lena got the dress for free because Alena Akhmadullina is like a sponsor for her. Look, they reposted Lena's photo on their official I page.

Actually, I think the Japanese fans were more excited that Lena wore a "joshikousei" (high school girl) uniform in her EX.

Speaking of which, here's a full HD version, finally!!!

Here's a new interview with Lena!

"The sense of bitterness after the World Cup remains"
Two-time vice-European champion in figure skating Elena Radionova

Oksana TONKACHEEVA

As already reported by "NI", the skaters of the European team took second place after North America at the final tournament of the season - the Team Challenge Cup, held in Spokane (USA) this past weekend. Russian singles skater Elena Radionova came to it automatically thanks to her victory in a special vote. And at the competition she won her group. The 17-year-old athlete, a two-time Grand Prix Final medalist and World medalist, summed up the results of the season in an interview with our correspondent.

Lena, after placing sixth at the World Cup 2016 in Boston, to receive this recognition from the public is valuable...
- To be honest, the fact that the fans voted very strongly raised my spirits. The viewers chose me, which means that despite all the obstacles, people want to see me on the ice, believed in me, and supported me. Now I do not remember exactly, but some unreal number of people voted for me, even in America. Of course, for me it is a holiday, one of the most expensive events of the season! After all, by and large, we do not skate for ourselves or the judges, but for the spectators.

And what is more important in principle for you - a medal or this kind of love from the audience?
- It's hard to say ... I think no one will answer this question unambiguously. On the one hand, you're an athlete, used to working towards your goals to win awards. But at the same time, when there is support in the face of the fans, it is no less valuable than the anthem and the flag on the podium. It's hard to choose which is more valuable. And when you have both, it is happiness.

This season you won "bronze" in the Grand Prix Final, "silver" at Russian Nationals and the European Championships. And at the World Cup after last year's "bronze", you took a step back, finishing in the top six. Was this a heavy blow for you or just a failure?
- I have mixed feelings left from the season. Like I performed adequately, without major mistakes, but small blots greatly spoiled the overall impression. Of course, it's frustrating. I know what to do, how, and what to work on. But the bitterness after the World Cup is still present. Although I did not cry about this in Boston or at home.

And do you quickly let go of failures?
- Fast enough. I am by nature a placable person trying not to delay the bad things in my head. This also applies to sport. I say to myself: you need to go through such a result and move on. But ... When you know that many errors could easily be avoided, it is always the most vexing.

Errors associated with a period of growing up, that came upon you just in the last season?
- Yes. I tried to make each element on a high, but there was some caution. Not that I'm not confident in my abilities, no, just with this all right. Just when you're little, you have fewer thoughts about what and how you are going to do. You skate more "automatically," but with age you begin to approach everything more consciously. Some thoughts interfere, though all depends on the individual. For me, these two (short program in women lasts 2 minutes and 40 seconds) and four minutes pass very rapidly, like a moment. But as for the jumps, I began to feel them differently. Over the year, I grew by ten centimeters: it is necessary to adapt, to get used to the "new" hands and feet. I fight and deal in principle. The main thing is that the potential is there, I know I can deal. But I am only at the beginning of the road.

Not so long ago, similar difficulties faced Liza Tuktamysheva, Adelina Sotnikova, and Julia Lipnitskaya. Did you study their experiences?
- No, you cannot learn something and do as the others. Everyone's body is different and everyone passes adolescence differently. For example, I, like everyone, have to deal with my weight, but it's not that strict. I still can afford to eat everything, but little by little; others, I know, have much heavier restrictions.

Appearing at international competitions, you immediately endeared yourself to everyone: judges, spectators and journalists. And this season it seemed that in the image of a girl who always positive, with a smile, there was some sadness ...
- Oh no, in my heart, I remained the same flirtatious (smiles). Just probably grew up. I think on a grand scale in my nature, nothing changes. Well, maybe, but not to become obstinate, and more to defend my point of view in some moments.

Something else interesting happening in your life?
- It's the same as my whole life so far - skating and studying. It is necessary to pass the final examinations at school, and then enroll at the college physical education. I considered various options, but decided that as long as my profession is a sport, it would be logical to study at this university. And then I will think. Figure skating is only a part of life, and I see myself as a versatile person.

Well, I'm glad to know that my voting like 4000 times for Lena made her happy!

I'm not sure what the correct translation for this is...
"Да нет, в душе я осталась такой же хохотушкой"
But I don't think Lena meant "flirtatious"?

That's awesome. Good for her!

хохотушкa [hohotushka/khokhotushka] = easily amused, guffawer, giggler, chuckler, belly laughter. Happy-go-lucky kid.

хохот [khokhot] = sudden burst of loud and usually contangeious LOL.

She meant that deep inside she is still easily amused giggling kiddo.

Thanks for the trans @Batsuchan & @ Alexz :thank:
Knowing that she's happy with winning the fans vote, i am not so sad about my only 5votes hehe

Thanks Alexz!! But I agree with the interviewer. We haven't seen super-happy Lena that much this season.

That's why I really liked this picture, because Lena looked genuinely happy and had a big smile:
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cg5iot4UUAAWDhn.jpg

I know she doesn't like to show her teeth because she has braces, but I hope that when they are removed, we get to see more big Lena smiles, instead of those (slightly fake-looking) half-smiles. And of course, I hope that means that Lena's happy because she's doing well and getting big scores all the time! :agree:

Here's the gala finale, where you can see Lena posing in the photo, and a few other glimpses of Lena dancing:

In my opinion, they should have gotten Lena to do the dance battle part!

Gosh, you ARE obsessed with Lena. :) It almost feels like you are playing dolls, and she is your Barbie. :) It's great tho, she is a good athlete. She is a fighter. But be ready in the next few years you will see 3 more Russian girls exactly like Elena. Same blondish appearances, but perhaps a better jumps tho. Lena still need to do a lot of work to become significant like Mao, Yuna or Carolina. I wish her luck and more hard work!

All the ladies skating now have a lot of work to do if they want to be significant like the ladies you have named. Each of the ladies you cited have had extensive careers with years of achievement. Not one year and done which is the case lately. Lena largely survived her puberty and did not lose her jumps, which honestly was a fear of mines for her. I think she will be ok and will work to get herself in fighting form.

I assume this comment was aimed at me, in which case--I'm guilty as charged!!! I'm totally a Lena addict!

I've never really thought of Lena as my personal "Barbie" before, but you make a good point. I was actually looking at Alena Akhmadullina's collection and trying to imagine what Lena might wear next.

Like, this is cool, but perhaps too revealing:
http://www.vogue.com/fashion-shows/russia-spring-2016/alena-akhmadullina/slideshow/collection#39

And speaking of Barbie, that dress in the center might work well:
https://www.instagram.com/p/BEwBAW3re_p/?taken-by=alenaakhmadullina

I'm all for Akhmadullina giving Lena dresses to wear to banquets, but I'm still not convinced she's the right designer for Lena's skating costumes...

Finally got to watch Lena's exhibition. It's different, but I love it.

I adore it, I can't stop watching it!!

Apparently Misha Ge did the music, but he didn't choreograph the program. Or maybe he choreographed something and Lena changed it completely...?

For people who asking: (Elena Music yes i did,but then she use it and choreographed it with other choreo) #NotMyWorks

The Japanese commentators sounded very impressed (especially Junko Yaginuma), so I'm going to translate their comments.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FM-9ibUV2A

2:15
Male announcer: Yaginuma-san [Ms. Yaginuma]
Yaginuma-san: Yes?
Male: Compared to yesterday's free program, "Titanic," it seems like a completely different 17-year old girl.
Yaginuma: Yes, I think Radionova is one of those skaters who can perform to all kinds of music and use her personality to portray all kinds of expressions.
2:34
Yaginuma: She's good at showing us a completely different image from her competition programs, isn't she?
Male: Yes.
Yaginuma: The way she uses the song, the way she catches the rhythm--I think it's exceptionally good. Also, the way that she distributes her gaze around the 360 degrees of the arena--she's really good at that.
Male: Yes, and then she hurries back [to where she started].
Yaginuma: As if she's thinking "oh no, class started!"
Male: Yes

3:19
Male: At the European Championships, she won silver. And at Russian Nationals, she won silver--this skater, Elena Radionova.
Yaginuma: Even the way she leaves the ice, it's like she's still performing.
Male: As yes, you're right.

3:35
Yaginuma: Her dancing is great, isn't it?
Male: Yes. That's why, in contrast, she seemed so much more grown-up in her free program [video cuts off].

I always feel like Yaginuma-san is a little...cold?...in her comments [kind of like the opposite of over-the-top TAT], so I was pleasantly surprised to hear her say such positive things. To me, it sounded like she was really impressed. :agree: As she should be. It was great!

She makes a good point about how Lena plays to the crowd on all sides of the rink. Instead of good "ice coverage," I guess she has good "audience coverage."
