Patrick Chan

VB, I wonder if that's ever happened at an SOI show, where a skater bumped into the audience...

4everchan, you'll just have to sit in the section where he sits at the beginning of Rhapsody in Blue.

I wanted to share this quote from user rosy14 in the Carolina Kostner thread as I liked it.

Because you can ALWAYS fail a jump ( see Hanyu at Worlds), but you don't forget how to skate to
music ( see Chan).

Thinking about some of the comments Patrick gets for his PCS, this is the thing I have come to understand. Patrick's technical flaws or shortcomings often prompt people to want him to get lower PCS. But he doesn't skate poorly. Yes, he goes into the boards/falls on/pops jumps, and yes, sometimes his spins get invalidated. But his step sequences, edges, and interpretation are all just fine. He's also not a lethargic skater. PCS is about more than having a couple of different quads. Of course, having those quads and being clean should give you great PCS, but there is something to be said about having a quad or two and still having a 'performance'.

All that said, I'm still asking for a quad Salchow. I want to see Patrick's big, beautiful quad jumps next season.

Great comments, Mango! Thanks for bringing that quote over to our thread.

All, here are the latest comments from Patrick about his future:

http://edmontonjournal.com/sports/h...olympics-since-returning-from-year-long-break

It seems that he might move to Vancouver after 2018.

About the quads:

“In order to be at the top, you have to have the quad. It’s a good staple, and it’s a great technical difficulty, but it’s getting away from the purity of skating. It’s almost become robotic,” said Chan.

There are some reversals from statements he made earlier in the year/season:

“It was a very interesting year. My expectations weren’t necessarily met. I felt I was thrown into the fire quite quickly,” said Chan.

“It’s great to push myself artistically, but it uses all my energy to do the more difficult jumps. These next two years are focused on going out and getting the job done technically.

Hmm, time will tell. I'm sure we'll see good quad salchows in his programs. I just hope his artistry doesn't suffer too much.

Thanks for sharing that vivley!

Looks like he's on the same wavelength as us fans who thought MTK was not helping him out. I'm glad to hear his focus has turned on the technical. Was the last time he did that in 2010/2011? He did start dominating after that.

Thanks, Mango! I support him increasing his technical content, but with these conditions: 1) He remains healthy and injury-free, which is most important, and 2) he remains committed to the artistic side of the sport, as he said in this article from last month. That will require him to manage his energy well, since the difficult jumps use all his energy. He'll have to figure out how to have more energy than a teenager. ;)

Haha, 4everchan, he may change his mind, who knows? Good luck!

Oh, this hotel posted a photo of Patrick at their place. They were excited he was there, but I was excited to see him wearing a normal t-shirt!

Er, I meant a normal everyday graphic t-shirt (that was a Lucky Brand Men's 'Indian Motorcycle' t-shirt) instead of the plain ones he's worn lately (not the fit or size). He seems to wear graphic t-shirts only when he's traveling.

Calica, may your friend wear their creation with joy!

You forget the frog t-shirt he wore when mountain biking and at press conferences.

I may not have seen it, VB. My frame of reference is what I've seen him wear since October of last year...

By the way, I like your location. I'm the opposite. Where I'm located il est presque toujours temps chaud.
