Apparently Kurt Browning had hinted that DB might a tryout for a new SP, but it would really have to be re-worked quite radically to fit in the jumps and other elements. Maybe more of a stylistic experiment? Last year the Touch of Evil routine was done in a sort of a jazz dance style which could have been done with Guys & Dolls in mind? (Or then not, because it seems that they did not have the music set that early?)
After the 2013-4 season, his music choices were revealed immediately after the competitions were over and he performed the first version of Black Betty in the summer shows. And that pattern actually had the main jump positions lined up, the music cut was not changed (at least not so much that it would be obvious), etc.

Maybe a stylistic experiment would make sense? What exactly did Kurt say during the Gala?
I liked Danny Boy at the Worlds gala, but it it seems to be a good exhibition piece instead of an SP. Even if just considering the music, I honestly wish Danny Boy is not used as a competitive program. I like songs for exhibition, and I am perfectly OK with some lyrics in SP and FS, but I don't like the idea of having vocals from beginning to end for an SP. Plus I think Danny Boy is a really, really beautiful song, but it does not seem to offer much variation at all.
Furthermore, the melody is very similar to "You Raise Me Up", which is a nice song that has been overused everywhere...
I really like Touch of Evil but given Javi had very little idea of his new FS at the time of the TSL interview, it seems unlikely that they had decided anything on the new FS that early last year.
I thought after the 2013-2014 season only the SP was revealed? I could be wrong, but in the beginning of the following season it seemed to me that execution wise Black Betty was a step ahead of The Barber of Seville. Black Betty was already super fabulous at Skate Canada (well except for the popped jump

), while the FS seemed to take some time to sink in. (At the CoR press conference Javi was asked what his FS program meant to him, and he said that it was still too early for him to describe what the program really meant to him, so for the time being he's just going to say that his Barber was really cute

)
I reckon this was exactly he and his team aimed for, to create authentic and intimate images for his SP & FS respectively, from the intense & passionate flamenco dancer with mature and sexy appearance, to the charming gambler, swagger and playful urbanity with endearing boyishness which makes him a perfect match for the quintessential 'feel good' Broadway musical fable. Based on your impression,
honghe , it works
Awwww I love your description of the Guys and Dolls FS:luv17:
Whoever designed the two costumes deserves a medal!
BTW, I can't help wondering... when Javi eventually becomes a coach, will he still not come to early morning practice sessions?
