Yuzuru Hanyu: 2015-16 Season

Status
Not open for further replies.
I am wondering if , due to his injury and the lack of time to prepare for next year competitions, if Yuzuru will start preparing for new programs a little late, maybe in August or September 2016 ? So maybe he will skip early competitions or GP, so he will be only at NHK Trophy in Japan, and he will not be qualified for GPF?
If that is the case, do you think that he will keep Seimei as Long Program, and will have only one new Short Program?
My hope is that he takes time to heal his injury and return in good health. I don't like the idea of him taking painkillers in order to skate at competitions. I don't want to see Javier win a third world title again in 2017. I have nothing against Javier, but I think Yuzuru deserves to win another gold medal at world.
I want to say that Yuzuru is the only skater male or female that I am interested to watch. I don't pay much attention to others skaters, male or female, even if they are very beautiful too, like the French couple in ice dance, the Canadian , German, Russian pairs are very good too. I also like many single skaters like the Russian, American girls, Patrick Chan and others...But I have less interest, no passion.

He's said he will change both programs, I think he has skated SEIMEI to it's best and another season just wouldn't be the same, as much as I love it. He's not really that behind on his summer schedule to go as far as considering skipping a GP event, I think. Even if he gets SA, it will take place until late October. He would just have to use the time where he usually would be skating to his new programs at the ice shows developing it in Canada, instead. He might skip a Senior B competition, though.

Seems like Aoi Honoo II will be released on July 7th.

SPUR Article
(it’s by a columnist with Noto-san’s photo, not tabloid magazine)
cited Shirota’s statement, “if he had took a rest” doesn’t seem to mean his absence in Worlds (I read it several times but the context isn’t a bit easy to understand.).

Naoko Utsunomiya (the columnist) wrote an article based on an interview with Shirota in Sportiva released in April.
In Sportiva Shirota says that maybe she should have had him skip some practice during Boston Worlds (like he did in the training before Worlds, maybe? taking a day off after 2 days of training.)
I don’t have SPUR, so I don’t know exactly how Shirota commented, but I guess maybe “take a rest” means “take a rest during Worlds.”

Has his non-attendance in FaOI Kobe been confirmed yet?

Thank you so much, hamaguri and sweetwater! :thank:
Aw, it is such a shame that the show isn't broadcasted nationally since looking at the list of cast it seems amazing

I found a playlist of Osaka EX today, while I was searching for other videos. I'm not sure if it covers all that was broadcasted, but it includes Yuzu’s Hana ni nare.

Last season I had very similar feelings. And that was surpiring to me because I love to watch all fields. But somehow Yuzu stole the entire season show for me. And it was only him I really needed to see skating, you know?

A fan already confirmed with the publisher about the writer
The writer is Hitomi Hasegawa and photos were taken by Asakura-san.
Hitomi Hasegawa is a writer for Figure Skate Life magazines and often holds lectures about figure skating rules and history. I've never heard complaints about her :)

FaOI Sapporo just read a message from Yuzuru. There was no collaboration with Fukuma-san's piano and video from GPF this time.
This is what I got from various tweets.

"Sorry I cannot be here at FaOI Sapporo. This venue is a good place for me because it's where I first won my first Nationals and my 4th title last year. I'm disappointed because I was looking forward to skating here in a collaboration with Fukuma-san. I'm still getting treatment in Toronto. Right now, I'm devoting on getting healed. I want to heal quickly to perform well again. Please wait for me."

thanks mikaboo! he seems to say "治すことに専念". do you think it means still he isnt back on the ice?

2 month passed only yesterday, so either he is just back or will be back very soon, if everything goes as planned.

Thank you for the info mikaboo! Does this mean he donated his previous autobiography book's sales to the ice rink too? I wasn't following him closely back then.

Thank to you all for your answers about Yuzu's programmes :thank:.
It's seems to me that till now there have been more similar ideas / feelings about his FP (and interesting almost nobody mentioned R&J 2), while there is more variety for the SP.
Anyway, if there are other users that want to share their opinions about the subject, I will be happy, because I have seen that there is still a lot that I have to learn about Yuzuru and figure skating in general, and through you seems that I have found the right place :).

Following your indications I would like to look ad the 2010 and 2011 "White legend" SP (before I had seen only the 4CC 2011 performance and the OG ex version) but on youtube and dailymotion I can find only video without the music. Do you have any link at least at the NHK 2010 performance still with the original music?
Thanks a lot :)!

I am also looking forward to have news about Yuzuru health and, possibly, to see him skating (beautifully :luv17:) again, but it is very important now to him to rest and to heal perfectly. So I hope this time he will be patient (and we have to be with him...).

NEWS

I will let who knows Japanese to properly translate this, but from what I got from google translation it seems Yuzu is still in Canada (no news here), still undergoing treatments and that his return to Japan has not been set yet. Not sure about the source of the news (Ms Kobayashi? Or are they quoting her from last April?)

http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20160525-00000058-dal-spo

The article is based on Ms. Kobayashi's comment after JFS meeting held in Tokyo today.

This article shows the following new statement of Kobayashi today (25th may).
“Still he’s under treatment in Toronto. Any outlook for him to come back to Japan cant be seen.”

tonight, the summer show, Faoi has started...
according to this Twitter, pianist fukuma-san played ballade with his performance video of gpf...if i were in the venue, i might have had tears...

^^^ Jazz .....or rockstar Yuzu

Beautiful new video by Sugar Autumn https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BybC1sAcdY

Movie Cameo

I begin with the audience. The theater I went to was in Yurakucho near the office town, and it was evening time. Further, yesterday was the day of the discount price for women. Thus most of the audience was the women after their work or young women like students.

The movie was, in one word, a fine movie. Story is simple, but the scenario is well written with some educational words (No wonder his father read it and decided.) and the camera works of the scenery and lighting are stunning (Of course, all the castings had the perfect match including yuzu!). You can see how the movie was made in detail. While watching, I felt several times how good it was that yuzu could have worked in such a movie.

And finally, yuzu scene came. Small chuckle happened and I thought some audience came here to see yuzu. I don’t know why but I became a bit shy to see yuzu on screen (lol).
He was firmly a part of the movie and played the important role. I could see the reason the actors realized that he was the same performer trying to express something even though figure skating lacks speaking. He felt the person in the class. As daisy said, his movement was elegant. Further, one of the reasons some actors said he could be an actor, and the director had decided the casting is his voice, I think. His voice is so comfortable to hear and has a nice quality and volume. He must have troubled with the lines but they were saisfactory. I tried not to miss the last lines as daisy advised!

BTW, what impressed me was his eyes and especially, his hands. https://twitter.com/harurize/status/725644677995589632?lang=ja
The white and plump hands had some impact in that scene.

Finally, the song at endroll was a kind of highlight as well as the line "羽生結弦 友情出演”. It was arranged version of 上を向いて歩こう(sukiyaki song)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbH754gScuk(”sukiyaki-song””ue-wo-muite-arukou.)It’s sad but bright.I don’t know explain well, but I really thought if he could see the movie somewhere, the song would left something in himself.
(BTW, I find the English lyrics translated by Yoko Ono. It’s closer to the original lyrics than the previous one which hit in the 1960’s.). It was sung by Olly Murs as “Look At The Sky” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyhQcyiNShM )

It's a poll which was held by CCTV5 (China sport TV channel) to encourage ice-sport athlete, 'Winter/Snow season Sports Role Model Award'.

Yuzu won the Best Foreign Athlete. The rest are all China's athletes and Boyang was Best Male Athlete. This is CCTV5 cm clip on this, Yuzu @1.48min, 2.08min. Website with the details.

Just read from Japanese, Yuzuru was selected as the best foreign athlete of winter sports, and Boyang as the best athlete by the vote held by 微博 (?) of China.
and CCTV will air a program about this from 20:18 China time (Beijing?) today.

It will be more accurate if someone understand Chinese translate the article.

CCTV5 just showed the program. Yuzu received overwhelming 90% of vote.

This is the 4min footage on Yuzu, they even covered the background of Seimei program. The Chinese fans really love him.

Not sure this has been posted :
Article from journal sentinel about gale tanger (now-retiring judge) with mentions of Yuzuru :

http://www.jsonline.com/sports/gale...ing-figure-skating-b99728770z1-380340671.html
Yuzuru-related part from the article :

"Gale Tanger's career at the highest ranks of international figure skating judging has taken her around the world to witness the best performances at the highest levels of her sport.
She has awarded perfect scores across the decades, from Kristi Yamaguchi and Michelle Kwan to Yuzuru Hanyu.
She has helped the sport evolve and grow, training the next generations of judges and helping to rewrite the scoring rules.
She has seen it all, from Tanya Harding's scandalous hit job on Nancy Kerrigan, to the barren airports of Cold War Russia. She has been a part of five Olympics and 10 World Championships."

"Even recently, Tanger was judging in Barcelona last December for the Grand Prix final and saw Hanyu's perfect program — this time a perfect 10 under the new scoring system.
"I remember looking at my sheet going, 'What has he not accomplished?'" said Tanger. "I saw the perfect 6 and I saw the perfect 10. I can rest with that.""

Me making Yuzu & Sendai Zunda Mochi for breakfast this morning.

It is easy peasy to make. It helps to watch Yuzu's videos while shelling & removing the membrane of edamame .

It was very filling, one piece of mochi enough to last me till lunch. And my hubby said that the zunda looks like wasabi .

Not sure if this was posted. http://www.thetoptens.com/favorite-figure-skater-of-all-time/ Yuzu is on top of the list. Sorry if it was posted already.

From twitter
We miss you at the show making marry and shining...
(My yuzu friend went to FaOI Makuhari last week. She said it was wonderful and successful show, but there was none of so hot a skater as yuzu and it felt a bit quiet.)
yuzu before 3.11, he moves his medal round "like this?" just so cute!
small shigemura, he don’t mind his hairs!
A wistful look.. you are so beautiful.

Finally, i cant find it again, but the twitter saying like this brought me tears..
"I shared my translation of (magazine) ICE Jewels. THe girls at Weibo cried so much and i felt their pure thoughts that they just want to support him..."

TRANSLATIONS

CCTV5 just showed the program. Yuzu received overwhelming 90% of vote.

This is the 4min footage on Yuzu, they even covered the background of Seimei program. The Chinese fans really love him.
Translation of the video by Lilian Fung @YHIFG FB (aka Ahkeekee @GS):
This is the youngest athlete in figure skating to sweep all the honors and the king of figure skating, Yuzuru Hanyu. He keeps surpassing the records he set. Since figure skating is such a popular sport in China, Yuzu won by an overwhelmingly huge margin as the most outstanding foreign athlete in China. (They then plays the clip of yuzu's record breaking moment in nhk)

After executing all of his jumps perfectly in NHK, Yuzu smashed the records of sp, fp and total score, achieving almost full score for his pcs. He reused Ballade no. 1 for his short program in order to focus on his free program. (then introduces yuzu's program, the movie Onmyouji) in the original scripts on Abe no Seimei, it says: "Seimei has a slender body type, pale skin, water-like pure eyes; with his wits, he makes no mistakes in whatever he do." It is as though this character is tailor-made for Yuzu, and Yuzu is the only one who could present the essence of the historical figure, Japanese history and culture in his skate.

In his opening pose, it is as though Yuzu is chanting with his right hand, and supports the sky (heaven in the japanese context?) with his left hand while his foot moves as though he's controlling the earth (?), symbolizing that Onmyouji has control (?) over the heaven and earth. Imagine the entire ice rink as an entirely dark space, Yuzu's movements is like rays of sun beaming through absolute darkness, chasing away clouds and darkness. (WOAH)

Yuzu's movements and expressions changes along with the plot in the movie dramatically, this balance of expressions and movement is the essence of performing. Through Yuzu's skate, he presents the essence of the culture of Onmyouji. "It is undeniable that yuzu is the one of the most outstanding athlete in winter sports in recent years. To defeat the Westerners in this sport (fs) itself is an admirable feat."

"His desire to win is stronger than anyone else, if you remember, his coach Nanami said that if you ask in what way is Yuzu a talent, it would be that he's more diligent than everybody else" (there's a little part missing?) (then they play the recording breaking moment in gpf).

Perfect performance and breaking records are not the end of the story. His choreographer said there is still room for improvement in this programme. Hanyu, in his quest to surpass himself, goes through all lengths without any hesitation.

"The original work described Abe no Seimei as a man with an ethereal air and as having a slender figure, fair skin and a sparkling gaze! This character almost seems as if it were created just for Hanyu Yuzuru." - credit Prissy Lai

Since there's been no news this weekend, here's a video of a TV talk show that was aired tonight for laughs.

The guest is a popular actress, Yoko Maki and she is a big figure skating/Yuzuru fan.
The guy who appears on the video is her comedian friend (Koyabu). I didn't watch the show from the beginning but I'm guessing he was asked what he wanted her to stop doing. He said that Yoko is really passionate when she talks about Yuzuru and although he likes figure skating himself and thinks of Yuzuru as a national treasure, he gets tired after she speaks about Yuzuru for 20 minutes. She describes small details about things like "that expression/his eyes when he does that thing, etc." and because Koyabu-san supports Yuzuru himself, he listens to her but she talks for so long and praises him so much that he starts to get jealous and thinks, "the audience will think I'm funnier (than Yuzuru) if we were at NGK (I think it's where he does stand-up comedy)."

Back in the studio, the host (Ueda) asked her if she likes Yuzuru that much and she replied that she's always liked figure skating and she made Koyabu watch Yuzuru's performances when he came to her house. She explained to Koyabu how difficult his jump entries are and kept on rewinding and fast-forwarding the video. Ueda asked her if she's seen it live and she said she's seen Daisuke and Shizuka in an ice show but hasn't seen Yuzuru yet. Ueda boasted that he saw Yuzuru at the Sochi Olympics and interviewed him afterwards and you can see Yoko's response from 2:47 . She shouted, "I'm envious!! How was he!?" Ueda said, "he's sincere, humble, a very nice young man." and she's still excited at 3:08.
After that she talks briefly about Patrick and Boyang. She skates sometimes herself and reconfirms how great Yuzuru is when she does.

This is Yoko Maki's instagram when she posted things about the an-an magazine he was in.
Why did I buy this?? Why??
What am I pinning up??
An-an-san, this is not good, this is not good.
Also a photo with Daisuke and Shizuka.

Chinese fans has English-subbed the CCTV5 (China sport TV channel) Yuzuru the Best Foreign Winter Sports Athlete of 2015-2016. The sub is a bit small way at the bottom of video, Youtube version and DailyMotion version.

When I turned 20 and I returned to Sendai; for celebrating "Coming of Age", I drank sake for the first time, together with my grandfather and male cousin(s). Then later, Dad also joined in and everyone drank, but my speech started to slur.

thanks mikaboo! he seems to say "治すことに専念". do you think it means still he isnt back on the ice?

The wording does sound like he's not back on the ice yet but I don't know if he'd give out information on his condition either way right now.
Brian used to come to Japan (with Nam:cry:) to choreograph the opening of the second half of the FaOI tour. I wonder if he's coming this year as well.

Thank you for the info mikaboo! Does this mean he donated his previous autobiography book's sales to the ice rink too? I wasn't following him closely back then.

Yes he did :)
