Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

Hey there :)
here is a translation of the german short dance commentary...

– world champions of the previous season: Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't come out of this as the leaders, since their main strength (attraction) is the free dance

- Yes, I agree

But lets just quickly finish with capellini Lanotte (discussing their short dance results)

Back to C/P: the question is, if they can show their very specific (personal) style alreadyy in the short dance ... so far I think it looks like it

1:08 beautiful

3:29 well, dear ladies and gentlemen, the sensational (exceptional) team of Ice Dance – thats Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron.
I still remember their first World Championship – placed 15th, after that ... excuse me placed 13th, after that they became European Champions, World Champions... and now they take the lead.

Concerning the music: it is interesting to know that the second part, the march, has been composed by Hugo who studied music and composition but also used to be an ice dancer himself. And indeed, I truly enjoyed the music. It was one piece. And again it happened what already happened during their FD – you don't get that they are dancing a waltz or march, they simply glide across the ice, including the content into it, naturally, and zoom! we are probably at over 70 points in the SD. Thats how it is with these two. A wondrous (wundersam) career indeed, really big – which of course is strongly connected to Roman Hagenauer, Marie-France and Patrice without a doubt.

- Yes, but with other top teams like Virtue/Moir ... you could tell quite early that they will make it to the top, already at junior level. But not with them. They had an incredible increase of achievement between the 13/14 season and last season – and thats whats so special.

In my opinion the gold medal is gone.
Yes, something really big must happen to beat them now. It seems like for the other teams its only about silver or bronze. Lets face it, we are not telling a secret here.

- Is it true? Virtue ans Moir are returning to the sport as their training mates? I mean, thats horrible news for them (Cizeron/ Papadakis) – but for the skating world its going to be really really exciting!

I think so too, Im really looking forward to the next season. Right now, also without Virtue/ Moir coming back, it is already exciting with many top teams and all the changes, but plus V/M ...

(reading P/C SD results) to achieve that in the SD... its already the gold medal.

Wow thanks so much, I had asked for someone to translate the German commentaries a while ago but no one seemed to react or most probably no one know German well enough to translate, so I kind of gave up on it. Such a treat. If it's not too much to ask, could you please translate the FD commentaries as well ? Here is the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xevb6znEN7c

And thanks for all your montage videos on youtube

Thank you! Im happy you enjoyed my montages, thats so nice to hear!

Well this is the translation for FD:

- it has been a short Grand-Prix season for them, due to her concussion. They only started with the french nationals, so they have very little competition experience this season.

(and now: clap your hands! NOT A SINGLE WORD from beginning till the end of the program !!! Im so proud of german commentators.. :agree: )

continue at 4:39
- is this still sport or already art ... It is Eis KUNST laufen therefore a little explanation: german expression for Ice skating includes the words Eis=ice Kunst=art and laufen=skating (in this context)

- that is true. Again, a joy to watch, a wonderful performance from Gabriella and Guillaume.
What I noticed today, is that transition from smooth to high speed ... the rotations (I think he's talking about the last rotation lift) ... and then with ease again... as if they hit the gas for short, exciting changes between –

Exactly, its not easy to interpret such slow music – you need liveliness (or esprit ? He got lyrical and said "Spritzigkeit") and they solved that outstandingly.

(now they talk about previous french ice dancers, just facts .... blah blah)
and they give a short summarize concerning Roman Hagenauer`s career: also, they said he moved from Lille to Montreal, because out of a sudden Schoenfelder became first coach assistant of Muriel Zazoui instead of Hagenauer... (so that was the real problem in Lille! I never heard that detail before...)

back to P&C:

– they are in a world where you can touch the sky with your fingertips... they are up there. What Im interested in is if they are going to keep or change their style. One has to admit, that the style of their last two FD programs are quite similar. You can do that for two years without a problem – but is it going to work for a third year?

well, then there is the fourth year, olympics in Pjong Yang, if this motto (theme) is going to work until then, we will see...

results coming

– and of course a personal best for the world champions Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron!

I hope there are not too many grammar mistakes and that it all makes sense to you,
if not so, don't hesitate to turn to me ;)

cheers

Julie

First of, thanks @Julie Wie for the translation.

On the subject of style, even though I understand why this comment is constantly being made, tbh I don't care much if they change of style or not, I can just watch them skate all day. And it's not as if they are that many teams who can successfully render contemporary dance on the ice right now. However, I'm concerned if they don't, they'll face criticisms and loose momentum. I understand they need to evolve and explore as skaters but it's not necessary for them to start playing clowns or doing musicals. I think they'll find a way to innovate while being true to themselves and their own unique style. I can't imagine such young talented people stopping their evolution so early. They're both very creative in their own way and seem to live interesting lives which will no doubt fuel their interpretation.

Hey cocotaffy,
Im absolutely with you on that subject – and please no musicals or stuff like that :drama: on behalf of the commentators: the way they said that, it sounded not, like they wanted them to change or anything, they were just thinking from the judges point of view and discussed their chances to win the olympics.
I don't care too much about the winning aspect, more importantly I want to see choreographies that touch me and Im sure whatever their up to Im going to love it! To me they are the most honest dancers around on the ice and thats what I really appreciate about them. I mean, you never know, you can't see through people, but thats the feeling that comes across to me when I watch them.

sure, just kidding – I subconsciously tried to explain why I did so many montages in such short time (should be studying instead ;)

Hey there =)
if you enjoy watching montages of G&G visit my youtube channel "Julie Wie"

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCP7lhTTI7rf3dWJ94hTBvA

I just thought its a shame that there are millions of montages of Virtue/ Moir and almost none of Papadakis/ Cizeron ; )

This mash up is particularly lovely esp. the photo/slowmo section combined with the music edit, very moving. It seems you surperimpose their FD music in the first section. Does it mean you have manage to isolate their FD music track ? In which case could you upload it on youtube ? Some people are looking for it including me. I appreciate a lot what their doing with their music editing, it's tasteful and you can really enjoy it as a stand-alone piece of music like their Woodkid or their Mozart both in my playlist.

yes indeed! I`m still into the Woodkid FD`s music! I also discovered Coeur de Pirate because of them (SD in 2010/11) – always great choices of music!
at french nationals they superimposed the music on the videoclip and I isolated that and used it for the montage, I guess I could upload that too, let me see...

Ben Agosto did almost the same when commenting the SD final results with Tracy Wilson: at 1h04m29s "... if they continue to skate like this, I think they are untouchable..." 2016 Worlds - Ice Dance SD Groups 5&6 NBCSN

You have them named backwards: the first half is the Bosso (for ages I thought it was an Antony and the Johnsons song!), and the second track is from Cinematic Orchestra. The CO track is available on their 2007 collection "Ma Fleur" (I am a BIG CO fan).

right, but I don't think that really matters, because it starts with " This is a place where I ..." and thats cinematic orchestra, then its bosso and then cinematic orchestra again...

I did a routine update of their OP. Gabriella's instagram has changed. Also their Junior World 2012 video is now geoblocked :(
but is still available on dailymotion!

If there are articles, videos etc. that need to be added, please tell me?

Thanks, guys!

Hi, I found another exhibition from 2013 french tour https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHHbtzPM3oI (pink floyd) If you want to add it on their profile ...
Many thanks for your work
