I'd also love to know with whom is going to train in the US. But in any case, it sounds very comprehensive.

I loved both his programs this season. I think it very impressive that he's very good at expressing classical music, but also looking for interesting off the beaten path choices, but in very good taste. And I liked his innovating, but beautiful costumes too.

I was so happy for him the weekend of Team Cup Challenge. He didn't stop smiling the whole weekend, I think! He earned it!...I wish him Good Luck with English! I started a Japanese class last week and had forgotten how difficult it is to learn another language. I have a Hiragana Headache today! I know his U.S. fans would really love it if he would learn just a little English. I was very happy to hear that Jason Brown is learning Japanese with a tutor.
The fact that these elite skaters find the time and the energy to learn foreign languages is just mind-blowing!

your study of Japanese! oh, its wonderful and respectable. mastering another language is tough. personally, i must study Czech now. but slavic languadge is first for me to learn and difficult. your active attitude inspires me.
I'm learning Czech too. It's the first time I've come across someone else who does!

Learning languages is my hobby, but Japanese! It's a language I'd love ot learn - there are Japanese books that haven't been translated that I'd dearly love to read, plus I love haiku, plus I'm fascinated by a number of aspects of Japanese culture, but I don't think I'll ever manage to learn Japanese, what with so many characters to memorize. It's my impossible dream :).

Hopefully we will get some more details on the U.S. training. My main concern is that Shoma doesn't injure himself with his jumps, and he needs to fix his shaky landings. He can do it though! I worry about his knees! I was thinking how last season he was in the U.S. 4 times for competition. He certainly is quite the world traveler.

Japanese is SO hard! It's so hard to memorize all the characters! But I noticed that I recognized a lot of characters while looking at stuff online now. I think I maybe even recognized 3 words in an interview. Ha!...I remember reading something where Yuzu was saying he doesn't want to speak English - he wants to speak his own language. I can only imagine how draining it is to have to speak English for him. Fortunately he has some people with him he can talk to (his mom, I think, for one)...Good luck with your Czech studies.

Spiral, im glad to hear that you're also studying Czech, although I cant say learning other languages is my hobby like you! (lol)

I think Japanese language has one distinctive feature. It's you can speak/hear before you can read/write. In most languages, you will begin with reading/writhing in new lanuage studies. but Japanese is so complicated with reading/writhing for 4 kinds of characters and so many chinese characters. On the other, Japanese sound is quite simple and so easy to hear/pronunce ( Medvedeva sung Japanese anime song well in her TV interview at Worlds! She must have learned it while watching the anime. Immitating Japanese sounds is not difficult. Rhysme is plain and there's no sharp accent and intonation. ). Actually i know some people who can speak/hear Japanese well, but cant read/write.

So Arriba,im sure it wont take long time before you can understand Japanese videos like newsclip or interviews of Shoma. :hap10:

I'm so glad to hear that he is going abroad for some training time. I wonder where he is going?

That is the magic question. :hpull: I'm wondering Connecticut (with Ilia Kulik)? Detroit? Anthony Liu in CA.? Raf in CA. (hmm not likely)? U.S. Tomoki Hiwatashi trains with a Russian coach in the Chicago area? One of the Colorado Springs training centers (how about with Rohene Ward?)? I'm wanting to know this even more than his SP costume details! :drama: Please - first stop, Anthony Liu the jump / quad coach.

A coach who can help with the mental aspect is SO important. That makes sense to me that Brian might have trouble understanding Yuzu. I see so many similarities with Shoma and Jason. I love the artistic side of both of them. If you have time to watch, I know this is Shoma's thread, but this is the skate where I fell in love with Jason. It was the skate of a lifetime for him. We were a totally crazy audience. Don't know if you have seen it, but it is worth watching.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LEcdgUXvt6o. Jason also had a very hard time with the 3A, just like Shoma. I will be anxious to see Jason's quad and hope he doesn't injure himself again with that darn jump!!! Love that Jason has real costumes - just like Shoma.

Very happy to see that Stephane was with Kanako and Shoma. It can only mean good things! I have heard that Ilia is good with working with the jumps. Go Shoma!:yahoo: Good luck with your study of Czech. Is that for your job? Seems like that would be difficult.

I totally missed Ilia is living in US with Gordeeva!. He works for coach? (On a different note, he comes to the latter FaOI begin from this weekend. It's a shame he didnt come to the first half of FaOI. Shoma may have had a chance to meet him.)
It seems you are particular about coaches in US. They are different with each other? Provably the information about Shoma’s training environment in US will be up somewhere, and it interests me so much now!

Ive heard Joson won Jr.Worlds without 3A? Thanks for sharing. The program, costume, and his joy of skating... this performance has many things. Now i cant wait to see Jason and Shoma's interaction at THE ICE! Further, the TV commentary is funny! They laughed with impression! Seeing that performance going on before their eyes must have been an exciting experience! I just hope he can stay injury free.
(The reason why I have to study Czech is my moving to there this summer for my husband’s job. Living outside Japan is my first experience and I have some concerns, but anyway, im looking forward to my adventure in new circumstances!.)

There must be many good coaches in the US. My mind tells me Anthony or Ilya just because I hear their names a lot from Japanese skaters so they seem more accessible and Shoma has already worked with both of them before. Wherever he goes, I hope Shoma can have fun while he is there. It would be nice to have the option of moving overseas to train in the future if he wishes.
Just remembered that Miyu Nakashio spend a couple of months with Kori Ade and Rohene Ward at the beginning of the season too. Hmmm.

Isn't the Czech Republic one of the safest countries in the world now? I'm sure I read about it recently. And I hear it's beautiful. I hope you have fun! And maybe you can get to see some skating competitions when you have settled down :)

I think Ilia and Gordeeva have been married since 2002, and I know they have always lived in the U.S. since they married. They had a training center in Connecticut, but I think they are in California now. Seems I remember Satoko training jumps with Ilia in California. Actually there are so many coaches here that it's hard to keep track of all of them! They are pretty much in competition with each other rather than being unified. Maybe it's like that everywhere?

Jason can practice his Japanese with Shoma! Regarding that Jason Riverdance, we were so loud that I don't know if you were able to
hear the TV commentator say "They're going to have to shut this building down for repairs because the audience is going to blow the roof off this place." Oh my goodness was it loud! What a memory!

Maybe you will see something on TV when Shoma leaves for the U.S. They like to tease us with a little information but never give the whole story! Do we know yet when he will debut his short program? I know he has an ice show in Tokyo in mid July. Maybe then?

Your Czech adventure sounds wonderful! They have held several Junior events in Croatia. Maybe you will get to see something fun!

I know Kori Ade likes to use Anthony Liu for quads. She had him work with Jason. She talked about it on a really long online interview on The Skating Lesson. Oh my gosh, it would be too wonderful if Shoma went to Colorado to Kori's training center, although the elevation would be 6,200 feet which could present some interesting challenges. I'm just so glad he's going SOMEWHERE! Honestly, I was getting depressed reading about all the Japanese skaters going to Canada or the U.S. for choreography, etc. and starting to feel like Shoma was being neglected. :noshake: I assume his mom goes with him, but I wonder if Mihoko sensei goes with him too. A little fun would be nice too! :yes2: I really can't imagine Shoma moving to the U.S. (or Canada?) to train, but I guess we never know what the future holds. I'm sure at this point, they don't even know themselves! At least it sounds like they have a plan! They HAVE to have a plan as we approach the Olympics.

I read in an interview with Yuna Aoki recently that she trained with Ilia for 2 weeks in March to get advice for her toe loops :hopelessness: and Katia Gordeeva choreographed her new exhibition program, "Make Me Like You". He (and Anthony) seems to be the go-to person for jumps.
I wonder how it's like for Japanese coaches. I've read a little bit about regional rivalries (e.g. Aichi vs. Tohoku) but nothing catty, and not much about coaches. Maybe I should hang around ice rinks to hear the gossips

I watched TSL with Kori but have forgotten about almost everything besides how cool and intelligent she seemed:cool: That's great that Jason has worked with Anthony. He seems to have been a good coach for Machida and he fixed Shoma's flutz (although it's coming back).
I can't imagine Shoma moving overseas to train either, but it's nice to have that option available to him in the future. I'm wondering if Kanako will go with him since she's not doing DOI either. I think Mihoko sensei will go with him

-----------
I'm losing track of all the off season ice shows already.
Has Shoma's Turandot from JSOI been posted here before? :scratch2:
I've added it to the OP but have linked it above just in case.

I really want to know where he went and who he is working with, but I am also wondering who would go with him. I guess his mom might not go with him unless his brother goes with him because his brother is still young (14 years old) and has school and club activities (He plays field hokkey).
I've read a interview Machiko sensei said Mihoko sensei always went with Kanako when she got choreography abroad. So, she might go with him, but in 2016-2017 season, she will be quite busy assuming Shoma, Kanako and Yura will do GPs and Mako JGP (just my hope). I sometimes wonder how coaches who have children handle these situations. They really need help and understanding from their family. Her son is older than Shoma, so she might not have much difficulties, though.
I hope Kanako went to the US, too.

Mikaboo, where did you see the article or interview about Anthony fixing Shoma's flutz? I only know he worked for 4T.

Totally agree. You can see how the whole skating thing is truly a family / team effort. I wondered about Shoma's brother, thinking how nice it would be for him to come to the U.S. But I was thinking he has time off from school right now, like our Sept. to June school year. When I saw that photo of Kanako, Shoma, and Stephane, I hoped right away that was part of a special plan for Shoma and Kanako. I would assume his mom goes too. I think she is keeping a close eye on her future Olympian IMHO. I'll be looking for her. Supposedly Shoma looks like her. Since he looks like Bambi, if we see a lady who looks like Bambi, it's probably her.

And in the meantime, only 15 days until we find out the Grand Prix assignments. Please, please, please. (I won't say it again)...
And only 128 days 2 hours and 6 minutes until Skate America!!!!

Never thought about Katia doing choreo. I'm sure she would do great! We saw Icenetwork interviewing her at Worlds. She is SO beautiful. Still can't even think about the G & G partnership without getting misty eyed.

Another jump coach might be Raf Arutunyan, but he coaches Nathan Chen and Adam Rippon, so that might be a conflict of interest. I like the Anthony or Ilia thing because I think of them more as consultants. And Tom Zakrajsek coaches Max Aaron. Hmmmm! This is killing me more than the short program costume drama! :hpull::shame::bang:

Yamada personally called Anthony to work on Shoma's jumps. He fixed his flutz and taught him how to land his nemesis jump, the 3A. He may be working with Anthony again right now, which is good news.

Do you happen to know if Anthony speaks Japanese? Just curious.

Thanks. I had a trip to Czech last summer and it was just beautiful and safe place. Ive heard you once lived in abroad. I hope I can improve myself with English also.
Of course, i’m going to competitions in Europe. Taking tickets is MUCH easier than in Japan…

I assumed he may show his new SP at the show of PIW in mid July which you say. But now I think the possibility that Shoma will do his new SP at THE ICE is higher. He will skates 4 times at PIW (he will appear for 2 days, 2 shows per day and in PIW skaters usually do one program per show.) He needs to polish his so difficult new LP before audience. So I guess he will hold his new SP until THE ICE of August.

It’s a pity Jason missed the Worlds 2016 in his mother country. He must have had a chance for a medal. Anyway, im glad he’s now recovered and will deliver his smile to us!

Thanks for your words for my moving. Im looking forward to going to competitions there. If I can get a ticket, I want to go to Worlds 2017. Hope I can meet you there. :)

This is yuna’s “Make me like you” by Katina, which mikaboo mentioned . I didn’t know it is her work. I didn’t see her competition skater days live, but I found her videos of youtube with her ex-husband, and fell in love with them! Im sue I’ll never have such graceful and elegant couple as G&G in the skating field.

TO hear about the coaches in US , now im interested in his training environment more and more! Which coach he will go to seems to be important.

To see your countdown is so funny!

Here's the interview with Shoma mentioning Anthony Liu and Ilia Kulik.

Translation from his tumblr fan page.
――You worked on mastering another jump this season too!

Yes. I’ve always had an issue with my triple lutz. The truth was that I had a glaring error in my lutz—it was on the inside edge. People told me, it would be impossible that I wouldn’t be able to fix it. But, during the summer, Yamada-sensei asked Anthony Liu-sensei to give me lessons. The other person who helped and gave me advice was Ilia Kulik-sensei at training camp.

I was secretly hoping they'd take Mako Yamashita too if it's like a team training camp. From her last competition, it looked as though she was going through a growth spurt and losing her jumps. But she'll have to go to the JGP selection meet soon so probably not.

I'm not familiar with Katia actually, but I see G/G's name a lot on GS. That's what happens when you live in Japan - not much coverage nor interest in pairs :ohwell:

I thought about Raf Arutunyan and TomZ too but I've never heard about TJ skaters going to them for a short time only. It'll be interesting to find out who he went to eventually. Will it be a total surprise or a predictable choice?

Thanks. I had a trip to Czech last summer and it was just beautiful and safe place. Ive heard you once lived in abroad. I hope I can improve myself with English also.

Now you're making me really jealous! :dbana:
