Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

I hope he can talk about their programs on the 13th, it will be my birthday present.
Thank you all for updates.
I love and respect very much this amazing boy. I am very, very happy to see him skating after months of absence. Last season was just another step for its growth as an athlete and as a human being. It was a great learning experience for him and his team. I trust him and his team, and I wish, I pray that he be victorious this season. Go Yuzu!

I agree actually :confused2: Seems weird. But it's been a weird off-season anyway

certainly looks like him, doesn't it

Yes it looks like him!

There is both JGP Yokohama and lombardia this weekend. Maybe they will announce something after that? *fingers crossed

If he doesn't cancel AC, if we hear nothing by the 13th, it will only be two more weeks of waiting at worst.

I find a bit weird that 2 days are left according to Piruette and there is no sign from Japanese media yet..They should have announced at least 4-5 days before footage.. imo

As far as I remember, there weren’t necessarily such announcements before TCC’s “media day” in past seasons. It was more like noticing from some fans’ tweets that there would be/was some news about him shortly before/after it would be/was aired and rushing to TV and recorder to stand-by for other clips to be aired.

I guess for them, there aren’t much merits of making announcement beforehand. Content of a news show is always a subject to be changed isn’t it? When there is a bigger news, these type of news re sports or entertainment will be postponed or shortened, so by not making an announcement, they can avoid receiving complaints from us fans waiting for the news.

Anyway he seems to be doing fine in Canada, so hopefully we will be able to hear from him in a week or a month or a month and a half…

I like that his recent wish (posted somewhere previously) was to do clean programs and not be injured while training. That's exactly the mindset and goal I feel he should have this season. (If it wasn't posted here previously, here's where I saw it: http://kichessarjilian.tumblr.com/post/150175678779/yuzusorbet-yuzurus-wish-at-tanabata-festival)

Yuzuru's top priority has always been winning. I feel that many fans misunderstand him when he said he wants to challenge himself or to stay healthy. When he said he wants to challenge himself or staying healthy, he doesn't mean challenging himself or staying healthy is the top priority that is more important than winning. Winning is his ultimate and most important goal. He only takes more risk if that helps him win. He doesn't take unnecessary risk (i.e, do more challenging jumps) if that results him losing (in the long run). (i.e. He would not attempt a layout if he has no ability of executing it.) If it's necessary for him to take more risk in order to win, he will take the risk even if it means he will have more injuries. (Do fans ever see him take less risk due to injuries?) He will not take less risk just to avoid injuries, but end up losing. There is a trade off between risk and health. More risk means less health, ceteris paribus. And he is willing to trade his health for medals if that's what's required in order to win. Not getting injuries and skating clean programs is just a wish. But in reality, it's very hard (if not impossible) to not get injuries and consistently skate clean programs when he attempts even more risky layout.

Yuzuru’s wish at Tanabata Festival this year (dated Aug 2016), hung in Ice Rink Sendai recently:
“No mistakes in both the short and free programmes. That I can devote myself to practice with no injury.”

Oda is too funny..."Had no choice but to strike the pose "

New magazine release on 2016/9/20

Isn't it his wish to practice without injuiry every year and every year he gets injuired before Worlds because he overtrains himself in 1st half of season ?:scratch2:

You feel that many fans misunderstand him, I think we all got that very clear.

But unless you are indeed Yuzuru, would it be possible for you to stop telling us what he's thinking? As if your words were actual facts rather than your own opinion?

Funny thing is that sometimes I even agree with you, but seriously, your tone of absolute 100% certainty that you are right and everybody with not exactly the same opinion as you can only be 100% wrong, it gets tiring.

People can, and will have their own opinions on pretty much everything. If some want to see Yuzu as a damsel in distress, what's the harm? If some want to see him as a strong leader in the skating world, who does it hurt? If some see in him a reflection of one particular trait that they see in themselves, who are we to tell them they are wrong?

You have your own opinions, and I respect that, I won't prevent you from talking about them, but you've got to learn to respect other people's opinion in the same way and stop continuoulsy trying to *impose* your opinions on everybody.

The rest of this isn't adressed particularly to you :

This is a fanfest, it's supposed to be a place where people can be happy about their favourite skater. To constantly hear how he's going to get an injury no matter what, or how he's going to botch his programs no matter what... I feel it defeats the whole purpose of the fanfest. And Yuzu's fanfest is the one and only I see with that much negativity about the skater (and nearly all aspects of his life).

I don't care about the factual facts I will still wish that Yuzu has the best year possible, on and out of the rink. I wish him to have a season he can be happy with. I wish the fans will also be happy with whatever he sees fit to share with us.

I'd say "sorry", but I'm not sorry. I had to say it.

Just to clarify one thing. What I said that sounds like his opinion is actually what he said in various interviews and articles. (I can't remember the exact interviews he said them or the exact wording. There are too many articles/interviews.) He said he knew there are risks of injuries, but he would still take the risk (to do more difficult layout). He said he was practicing the new quads/upping his tech because there may be juniors/other skaters who can outjump him one day (he insisted on 4S because he needed 4S to win the next olympics). He also said (in another interview) he was doing the current layout because that's the best he could do given his ability.

I find it highly distasteful that any of his fans should plan his layout for him and his team. I think he knows best what layout he can cope with and what he needs to do.

Yuzuru does often speak about increasing his tech, pushing the sport, and wanting to win. In those same interviews though he will also comment on the importance of his health, and most frequently his desire to execute a 'perfect performance'. In most recent interviews in particular, he is very focused on a perfect performance/health.

The point is - all of those things matter to him. So yeah maybe when he's nursing an injury, like now, he'll be more concerned about his health. But when a competition is looming he may value winning more. He's a human being and he changes his mind and that fact alone means you can't tell anyone that they're wrong and you're right because what he said a year ago, a month ago, or five minutes ago may no longer be how he feels now. We all read the same things and we take them our own way, so maybe just let others have their own thoughts?

I strongly agree with the reminders that this is a fan-fest...I'd much rather see some talk about costumes with feathers and sequins rather than the assumed inner workings of his mind.

Hoping that Yuzuru announce his program and music soon so that we can finally get to that  It is already September 13th in Japan :hap10:

Or just like the CMs, even though there are rumors and/or announcements, we still have to wait until they see the light

Or maybe they'll say "You know what? Just wait for SC Classic to know." ... ARGH!! :gaah:
Nah, not gonna happen. But even when they'll announce the music, I wonder which version it will be. Because, nowadays, there're so many revisions of all kind of music... So curious!:hap85:

The thing is, if it is indeed a media day at TCC, they could broadcast it anytime they want and not necessarily immediately or 1-2 days after, which means more waiting time :dbana:

Though at the very least if AC is happening for him we only need to wait for 2 more weeks :hap57:

That's true about the media day, but since Pirouette said Brian told them they couldn't mention anything about the music/programs until the 13th I'd expect information about his programs to be public knowledge by that date, which means we shouldn't have to wait long now :).

Anyone know/remember how the announcement went for the Olympic season? I know they filmed him skating his programs at Ice Rink Sendai since I've seen those video clips for PW and R&J2, but curious if it was a special program or press conference by the JSF. He had been injured before that too so I thought he may do the announcement in a similar way.

I hope so, I am going to refresh for news every 30 minutes tomorrow  :agree:

Most of the skaters I like has skated their programs, given a snippet or even competed. Now only my favorite skater left and I am so nervous, hahaha :hap85::laugh:
