Polina Tsurskaya

Have to admit Polina is looking good!

I didn't like her last year as, apart from her jumps that sure were impressive even then, I found her generally sloppy and not really pretty to look at (lines, unfinished moves...).
But she has matured so much and looks very elegant and polished now with her jumps better than ever.

Huge potential there!

she vastly improved her lines and presentation since last year,
her big jumps are still there, so its a matter of more time for preparation since her injury, she will get there in her FS soon....

Does anyone else feels that her style is a bit too similar to Medvedeva?
The SP maybe, but the LP is not.
However, I don't think it is that a problem for now as they do not compete togehther (yet).

Well, the SP is better indicator or her skating. The FS is just not ready yet. But her style is like if she was Medvedeva's taller sister.

Next year they will compete together. To me it made me feel slightly uncomfortable that there are two skaters with such a similar style. It felt as if their coach was preparing another girl to step in just in case Medvedeva goes through puberty. I really liked that in the past every girl under Tutberidze had slightly different style. There was a difference between Lipnitskaya, Medvedeva and Sakhanovich. Whereas this year's Tsurskaya it feels like if Tutberidze cream a double or a copy. I like improved Tsurskaya, but I hope she will envelop her own style and won't be just a copy of a previous skater.

Nam Nguyen was packaged just like Javier Jr. prior to last season, and Cha Jun Hwan has been packaged similarly to Yuzuru, Tursynbaeva similarly to Yuna Kim...so we could also say Brian Orser is running a "factory," but nobody does. Having watched juniors for awhile, now I think it's very rare to find one who has already found his or her own style at such a young age. Usually it takes some time and maturity before the skater starts to create their own identity. Until then it's a matter of trying different things to see what fits and we see lots of mini-Daisukes, mini-Maos, or whoever. I think it's extremely premature to say that Polina and Evgenia will look alike next season...they could both go in totally different directions.

It seems you forgot what Polina was critized last season: gangly, robotic, not feminine, not princess enough etc...
Now most of these issues have been fixed. Her arms are softer, her packages are more princess, less dramatic and softer.
Her choreography is actually more flowy than Evegnia.
She is just 15, she will have the time to find her own style.

I am not complaining about the changes, I have to say that it is definitely improvement for the better, i would just prefer if the style was not as similar to Medveeva's style. Tutberidze's past skaters were not copying each other's styles, so not sure why it should start now.

I'm just really impressed by how well she has her very long limbs under control, even better than last season and she didn't stop growing over the summer. And glad that she got rid of the tights half over the boot look, it disturbed her line and she doesn't need to make her legs look longer, they are definitely long enough. Fine programs, nice dresses, she's ready for the season.

Yeah, this! As a 15 year old I didn't have a 'style', I just copied the styles of people I admired. But as you grow, you grow into your preferred style, but it doesn't happen overnight.

I don't see how Polina's style is similar to Medvedeva any more so than to any other lady skating to lyrical piano music and looking elegant while doing so.
I haven't noticed any pantomime, O faces, and too literal acting that I associate with Medvedeva.
Considering how much Polina has improved her lines, carriage and overall look on the ice, I think this year's music is a very good choice for her to really highlight all these positive changes.

I agree with meoima that her dresses are lovely, especially the LP one and especially when compared to last season's dresses.

Also, what psusanne said about the tights half over the boots look! I'm so happy she got rid of that. I can't even express how passionately I HATE that look on anyone! Tights over the boot or in the boot are equally ok for me but anything in between just drives me crazy.

As adelia said, I also think Polina is much better than Evgenia at this point.
I'm sure many will disagree with this, but apart from being an incredible competitor with amazing consistency, I see nothing about Evgenia that would particularly stand out above the rest. Not the quality of her jumps or technique, not the skating skills, edges or glide, not the lines, posture or elegance and not even the musicality. She is good enough in all of these but far from being the best.

Polina's jumps are really superior to (almost?) anybody else's and this year she is also right up there with the most polished and elegant skaters.
She is not my favorite skater, but I have to give credit where I think it's due and I'm looking forward to seeing her develop even further.
