Skaters on Team Japan

Did they still put Rika and Marin at one JGP event? I don't understand this strategy, they both placed 2nd so if you put both of them at one event it is just a given that 1 of them will finish above the other. If Zagitova/Lozko comes on top, It will be a 2nd and 3rd place for them at best, which again minimizing either one of their chances in qualifying for JGPF. Why not put one of them at Germany against Gubanova+Konstantinova :scratch2:

The result of Tokyo Section and Chu-Shikoku-Kyushu Regional was up.

Wakaba won the ladies event and Yuka second. Yuka seem injured and only triple edge jump was preformed.

Akari MATSUBARA skated two clean program and win the junior ladies section. Sadly, she don't get any JGP assignment this season.

From Novice A Ladies (Tokyo), Rion Sumiyoshi and Akari Matsuoka attempted 7 triple program. It seem promising and both will be JGP eligible next season.

Ok, so I went to the Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva, IL. and just decided to go to the Information desk and said "I don't know if you can tell me, but Is Narumi Takahashi skating here?" The lady answered "oh yes" right away. I thought possibly for security / privacy reasons they might not tell me. But she didn't know who they are training with. It was almost kind of weird, as if they're not training with anyone. This lady hadn't seen them in awhile because she is only a part-time worker. I figured I would just come right out and ask, and the worst that could happen would be that they couldn't tell me anything!!! So the question of with whom they are training still remains a mystery.

Mystery solved:thumbsup: Narumi and Ryo are coached by Stefania Berton and Rochne Brubaker according to this interview.
There is a photo of them together on the 2nd page.

Always nice to solve life's greatest mysteries! And Stefania and Rochne are husband and wife. Thx for the info. :)

The regional entry and exemption list was out.

A little bit surprise that Yuka Nagai do not have any pre-GP international assignment. Also, Yuna Aoki was not exempted from regional (Her second JGP assignment might be move? or no second assignment?).

I hope JSF can move either Marin or Rika to JGP Germany (Both was not list as substitute in Estonia) in order to maximum the chance to JGPF.

Here's the updated exemption list, Yuna Aoki has been added to the exemption list, to Kanto Regional. This should confirm her entry to JGP Germany.

Here's another interview about Yuna (in Japanese). The interview took place during the Tokyo summer trophy. The beginning of the interview talks about her not-so-good condition during the last season, which was most likely due to the renovation of her home rink. Finally she was able to start practicing in the new Yokohama Bank Arena since last Dec. Also during off-season she was in the US to take lessons from Ilia Kulik, esp. detail instructions on how to jump 2nd 3T. Yuna admittedly says she doesn't sense much difference but from the videos she can tell that her jumps are getting bigger. She thinks her jumps were more stable when she was at Novice level, but the quality of her jumps now is improving.

As for the programs for this season, the FS 'On my own' was created basically by her coach, but they also have Lambiel helped to work on the program, esp. the Stsq part.

I think it's obvious from JGP CZE that Yuna's jumps and skating skill has improved a lot from last season. I was surprised that her 2A is getting really big now. Perhaps just some more time is needed for her to get the timing for the landing and getting used to the height from jumps.

And thanks again for checking at their ice rink!
I’ve never seen her compete (nor him) but Narumi says in the article that they used to always compete together at NHK Trophy and they got along well. Since Stefania and Rochne got married and started coaching at Fox Valley Ice Arena, she decided to go to them with her previous partner. Ryo says he used to compete at JGP at the same time as both of them.
I think I read somewhere that Narumi & Ryo will be debuting their SP at Carnival on Ice. I'm not sure what to expect from them, but I hope it works out.

A video focusing on Nagoya skaters for season 2016-2017 from a local Nagoya TV with Akiko as guest commentator.

Akiko was asked to choose a young skater who she’s looking forward to seeing at GP and Akiko chose Yura Matsuda. She’s known her since Yura was little and she is very graceful.

5:10 Shoma at Lombardia Trophy
10:00 Other Nagoya skaters (Kanako, Sota, Yura, RikaH)
14:30 Junior girls, mostly local ones (Mako, Rin, Yuhana)
18:40 Yuhana's 3A attempts

Congrats Mitsuki for the bronze :hap10:

I'm so glad. If he did not fail the first spin, he might have got the 2nd position. I really love his skating and jumps with clean axis. But, spins
Anyway, he could end the program a bit faster than last season, matching the music. It's good

I would never have thought he'd medal here. In fact, all 3 of the TJ bronze medalists this JGP season have been surprises.
I haven’t gone back to check, but I remember thinking that his spins were weak at his last JGP outing so I hope he can improve on it. His jumps are quite low and I wonder if he can get them higher when he gets some muscles. I like his skating though. I like Sota’s skating too so I’m going to give credit to Coach Onishi for that!

Kinki Regional Competition is happening this weekend. The junior girls have finished competing, all 66 of them!

Top 5 after SP:  All the girls who competed at JGP seemed to have skated well.

This is the 3rd skater from TJ ladies who is using Legends of the Fall. The other two are Yuka Nagai (FS) and Rin Nitaya (FS)
She’s already finished her SP.

I really love Satoko's FP dress. Some people say it's hard to see her, but I disagree. There's no sleeve, the skirt is short, the back is not hidden... nothing to prevent from enjoying her program. :luv17: But for the men.... yeah... I know what you mean, lol! Oh well, guess I'll get used to it. (er, Yuzu, you're sure you don't want to change the pants?)
Very nice video! I thought Rika could be in it, but Kanako? She's nowhere near being a challenger. I'm sorry, but this is the truth.

It was a nice first JGP season for the Japanese men (especially Kazuki and Koshiro, imo). They showed that they're ready to rise and shine in the next seasons. Maybe one of them will make it to the final next year? There's no hurry, but they're definitely good to watch out for.
I saw Koshiro live in Saint-Gervais and he really put his heart out, even if he really wanted to hurry on the technical elements, like the 3A. Ah, well, no doubt he will get here some day. :agree:
