Skaters on Team Japan

The next Figure Skate TV of BS Fuji will be on Nov. 12 (Sat).
I'm expecting they will show us videos of the National Novice Results. But I'm not sure as it is in the middle of GPS.

News clips are mainly about girls. I know that's because there are many stars to be, but still :sarcasm:

But I should not complain. There used to be almost no news about novice skaters or even junior skaters before :p

Thank you mikaboo for the information and link to the article on Takeru Kataise. If good ol' Google Translate and I interpreted correctly :p, seems like he's a good student with a healthy dose of competitive fire. Good to know he has Kaori and Mai to reference for jumping and is inspired by Satoko's consistency under pressure.

And thank you yhmafan for the link to the Haruya Sasaki video. I have seen Shun Sato's Asian Open FS before but not Sasaki's Coupe du Printemps performance.

The Japanese girls are amazing, but since the Men's discipline is my favorite to watch, I'm always curious about the up-and-coming boys. Hoping for some clips of the top novice boys on the next Figure Skate TV.

So many of my personal favorites skating at both Skate Canada and Western Sectionals this weekend. Best of luck to all skaters participating in both events! :cheer2:

Otsukaresama everyone and congratulations to Yuzuru and Satoko for getting on the podium. It’s been a dramatic 2 days at Skate Canada :drama: I’ve only watched Yuzuru, Satoko, Yuka and Rika once on YouTube. Totally loved Yuzuru, Satoko and happy that Yuka came back stronger in the FS. I’m too scared to watch Mura so I think I’ll wait until it is broadcasted on TV tonight. Nobu’s commentary might ease the pain. It seems like Mura suffers from a sprained ankle at every other competition
I've roughly translated the short comments I found from everybody after their FS.

http://www.jiji.com/jc/article?k=2016103000032&g=spo
Hanyu
I feel a little bit of satisfaction about the 2nd half but the feeling is about 90% regret/frustration, 10% satisfaction. I messed up on the 4Lo but it was better than yesterday.

Mura
It’s a shame because I was 2nd after the SP so the placement is regretful/frustrating. I sprained my left ankle during the 6 minute warm-up and I wasn’t able to overcome it mentally.

Miyahara
I’m relieved about the 3rd placement. I wasn’t able to score as much as I though I would (for the FS) so that’s frustrating but I performed better than the SP.

Hongo
I skated without making any big mistakes so I hope this will help for the next (competition). I got a lot of URs. I’d like to find out the reason and improve.

Nagai
I did all I’m able to do for now. I got a lot of encouraging words from various people and it made me motivated to go out there and do it.

And… nothing to do with Skate Canada, but I believe Yuto Kishina just won the Junior Men’s competition at West Japan Sectionals :eeking: but :hap10: for him.
1. Yuto Kishina 183.40
2. Kazuki Tomono 183.17
3. Tatsuya Tsuboi 178.44
4. Mitsuki Sumoto 173.80
5. Taichiro Yamakuma 168.27
6. Sena Miyake 167.94
7. Koshiro Shimada 155.85

But to be fair, I think Koshiro and Mitsuki were experimenting here by throwing in 3As and quads because they already know they’ll make it to Junior Nationals. I'll post protocols when they are uploaded (or someone can if they find it).

Here's the Junior Ladies results from yeterday, only in Japanese for now.
http://www.jsfresults.com/National/2016-2017/fs_j/west/data0490.htm
Top 3 finishers
1. Kaori Sakamoto 193.59
2. Marin Honda 186.34
3. Rika Kihira 178.60
4. Yuna Shiraiwa 173.91 (I read that Yuna changed her FS back to last season's)
5. Yuhana Yokoi 164.45 (she 2ft landed the 3A!)
6. Kokoro Iwamoto 163.27
7. Saya Suzuki 160.73
8. Mako Yamashita 159.78

Yuto!!!:yes2: That's two competitions in a row that he's scored over 180 points (186.80 at Regionals). Nice job! Can't wait for protocols! If his jumps have somewhat stabilized, I wonder if he'll also start attempting the 3A or a quad. He has Mura to encourage him after all. Either way, his skating is just so pretty! I still think he'd make a good pairs skater. I still don't know why.

Kazuki's scores keep dropping with each competition. He's starting to pop/fall on his 3A. Hope he's saving his best performances for the upcoming major events.

Thank you mikaboo! After struggling to catch up with Yuzuru's ff thread :palmf: I checked the JSF site hoping the boys FS scores would be uploaded but no luck. Your post is greatly appreciated!:thank:

ETA:
Looks like Hino won Sr. Men's.
https://twitter.com/22lunacat/status/792655015265439744

1st Ryuju Hino 233.34
2nd Sei Kawahara 193.94
3rd Shu Nakamura 186.57
4th Kohei Yoshino 184.24
5th Taichi Honda 175.21

Now that Sota has WD from his GPs :sad21: I'm guessing Ryuju will replace him at NHK? Sota was the host pick right?

1st Ryuju Hino, 2nd Sei Kawahara, 3rd Shu Nakamura, 4th Kohei Yoshino, 5th Taichi Honda...

Yuto looks like he could grow tall so that would be a good idea if he's interested in pairs  or ice dance if he could spend more time with Cathy.

Abotut Sota's replacement, if it's out of the guys you listed, maybe Ryuju? They all seem pretty hopeless (sorry) though. There's also Daichi Miyata at East Japan, but he's pretty hopeless too. I was hoping for the rise of Naoki Oda who had a 3A and 4T last season, but has lost them this season and only came in 8th today:no:

Yeah, I hear you. The main reason I'm assuming Ryuju, is because of his placement at Nationals. If JSF goes by that he's basically the next in line, then Shu, then Daichi. I was honestly expecting way more from Daichi at his challenger event, especially since he kept his gorgeous SP from last season. But he's still struggling with his 4T and still no sign of a 3A. Both Ryuju and Sei did better at Sectional compared to their Senior B so hopefully Daichi will too. I do remember seeing Naoki Oda's 3A. Hope he'll get his jumps back soon. Hidetsugu Kamata's injury, then re-injury was unfortunate as well.

Ryuju is probably the best out of all of them. I don't know why he didn't get Skate Canada instead of Sei last year (I know there must be a reason, I'm just too lazy to look it up). Miyata is my favorite out of the hopeless guys, but he came in 5th at East Japan Inter-Collegiate 2 weeks ago :(
I don’t think Naoki Oda has a 3Lz either so without the 3A, 4T or 3Lz, he’s in the “hopeless” category too :sad21: I hope he gets the 3A back at least.

Senior ladies comp. is finished from West Japan Sectionals.
1. Mariko Kihara 171.70
2. Rin Nitaya 169.65
3. Miyabi Oba 164.27

9. Miyu Nakashio 147.51

11. Riona Kato 141.27

Still no English version yet but protocols are out in Japanese.

With the Rostelecom Cup upcoming, I hope Yura has been tackling her chronic underrotation issue and making some improvement after the Chubu Regionals.

Narumi and Ryo have just competed at Eastern Sectionals, where they finished 3rd with a total score of 113.86 points. Their next competition will be the Japanese Nationals. Some photos can be found on their blog :)

I'm glad Yura had a decent skate at CoR as far as jumps are concerned. Hope she can improve her spins (quite slow they all seem) and sell her programs better, as she was kinda skating thru the music.
I'm really concerned about Yuna A's jumps with inconsistency and underrotation. They are beautiful when landed clean and I love them, but she's been left behind by other top juniors lately. Wishing her luck at the Jr. Nationals.

Thank you so much. I have a hard enough time keeping up with the GPs and some Senior Bs, so I tend to ignore Sectionals etc in various countries. So, thanks for letting me know. Do vids of Nationals usually come out?
