He is a skater that fulfill his potential. A skater who will be in history as the first Asian male skater to win OGM, first to break 100, 200, 300; first to land a quad loop, the male skater who won a three-peat besides Yagudin at the same season (GPF, oly, world) and the youngest male OGM since Dick Button. He is not a random champion who lucks out because other people makes mistakes while he doesn't. He is a historical skater and A LEGEND; his achievement is no trivial matter. He has achieved a lot.

Rather than crying foul everytime he doesn't win or when things don't go as planned, I would just celebrate the skater he has become. :hap10:

Keep loving Yuzu the skater, and his journey. Enjoy every single occasion we have to see him on the ice. Medals are just the cherries on top of an already delicious cake.

After Worlds this year, I got terribly sad. So sad that my actual life got affected.
A few months laters, when we didn't have any news about whether or not Yuzu would even be able to participate to the GP series, that shook me off of that horrible state of mind. How dare I be so upset? How dare I accuse people for what happened (because I did, in my head and with a couple friends on Line)? How dare I make this about myself, when it is not?
And I finally got the reminder that this isn't about me, it's about him. That no matter how I felt, if I couldn't, in my heart, be absolutely positive for him, then who would? That my negativity toward anything surrounding him might actually affect those things (sue me, I think negative thoughts affect things in the real world, maybe it's stupid, but I don't care).

That is when I started to feel grateful again, for all we have and that cannot be taken away from us. And for all that we will still be given.

TL;DR : I love being a Yuzu fan, independently of his medals. :laugh:

I so agree with you, Yuzuru's skating his so fantastic and he really has given us many special moments, not just competition program. Requiem in the World moved me to tears, and how often do you watch a preformance and not once care about the elements, but it is the whole that makes it fantastic.
One of may special moments from last season was NHK with Seimei, where he not only skated fantastic, but he made me fall in love with figure skating all over again. He has given figure skating as a sport so much of himself, that the least we can do is be happy that he again can put on his skate, skate for us. Good Luck Yuzuru Hanyu for this season and for what is to come.
 
I recently became a Yuzu fan because of his skating and personality off ice. Call me silly, but it wasn't until two weeks weeks after i discovered him that I found out that he was a gold medalist and a world record holder. Before that, I followed him because he had a nice smile, a great energy, and he looked beautiful on the ice. Maybe because I'm new to the sport, but I personally cared more if he moved to the music rather than how many points he scored with his jumps.

After lurking around, I found that this community has a tendency towards making a mountain out of a molehill, especially when Yuzu is not performing perfectly. The whole Orsen hating on Yuzu theory is so bizarre. These people scrutinize every single words and take a harmless sentence and twist it up into something ridiculous. It's like if someone doesnt gush over Yuzu then they have some malicious motive behind their words.

I get that it's disappointing that Yuzu performed below expectations, but should we blindly blame other people to justify our feelings? I rather not be in a community with that kind of subversive toxicity. I believe sending in good vibes to the people that I support. Engaging and spreading round baseless rumours like these may be good conversation fodder, but i believe it's actually harmful to the community. In fact, it's rather mean spirited and goes against the spirit of excellence and sportsmanship Yuzu embodies in his work.

I'll stick to my tmblr and instagram communities to cheer Yuzu on.

Anyway, didn't last year during P&G Yuzu days, beside dish washing soap, he also promoted (?) Pantene? So are we going to see a video of him washing his hair after a video of him washing dishes... :biggrin:

He should have been in a shampoo commercial, his hair is the one thing that never disappoints. :biggrin:
There are times that I was :confused: about his costume, his program, his layout etc. But never about his hair. Nope. Not once. (I am speaking about post-mushroom hair ofc). All is well as long as his hair is well. :laugh2:

When Yuzu cannot participate in ice shows due to injury this summer, P&G initiated the support message campaign and also 3 things that fans want Yuzu to do. I think this is part of it.

Regards the Orser's interview, I said this in the thread. So I copy paste it here and add something.

I am kind of fed up with how people, even his fans, write him off so soon. Orser also said Yuzuru is very young. He is turning 22, he is just reaching his prime. He is not like 26-27 and will retire asap due to old age. For the record, NORMAL MALES reach their best condition (health and everything) at the age of 25. But an athlete like Yuzuru practices so often, his peak might be earlier like at the age 23-24, if possible, it will be right at the Olympic. There is nothing to worry about Yuzuru. He is going UP and UP. Yes he, might has a slump after injury and new layout, BUT the general tendency is going UP. And mind you, Dick Button, the 2 time OGM did say Yuzuru "is not peaking yet and will improve" after Boston. And that man know what he talked about.

I know Yuzuru works with other coaches at CC more than people think. There is this fact, in all skating club, the main coach works mostly as a general manager and he gives some kind of "master class" to some specific skaters. It is the same with Mishin's skating school and with Eteri in Moscow as well. When their main coaches are not there, they work with other assistants of the coach. More like babysitters to watch out for them to not injure themselves badly, to follow the schedule closely... these things assistants can do. And most skaters get used to it.

I am sure Yuzuru is not new to that, and he did mention many times that he's grateful towards other coaches at CC. So I do not think Yuzuru himself feels like "being left out" when Orser is not there. He practised alone in Japan for a long time and never complained. They want Orser to spend time more with Yuzuru, so Yuzuru can regain his top form as soon as possible. And Orser's reply is: "be patience please!"

Now, if JSF DID complain to Orser, is that a bad thing? NO. In my opinion, it is ok to express their worry and tell Orser that Yuzuru needs him. Yuzuru is very dependent and stubborn and does things his way, and this is exactly why he needs his coachs' advice. So it is good for JSF to remind Orser that Yuzuru is not the all-rounded and wise skater who can do things on his own, that Yuzuru does need more of his coach's support.

So if Yuzu spends more time in Toronto so should Brian? He is the main coach for many of his athletes and he has to travel with them to the compatitions. Perhaps Federation thought that Brian will let his assitant coaches do the travelling? That is quite impossible and has no logic to it.

Why do you of all the fans, you who has so many posts and so many friends in the know, insiders that you've mentioned- post such comments like "somebody should tell Brian, somebody should tell Federation"? Why? Do you think they are not adults and have no idea what they are doing?

Brian said that he knows about complaints and is going to pay a very good attention to the situation and resolve it. Let him do that without saying: he has no idea, somebody should tell him. Meoima, seriously, doesn't the interview proves that he knows that already?

Yuzu is impatient because he knows his best time is NOW. Given his situation the fruitful career post Olympics is highly doubtful. He wants to be able to give his best during these two seasons. And he wants his coach to be by his side- anyone would do, and that is impossible. He misses Brian, he trusts him more than anyone else. Well, they will sit down and discuss that. So that Yuzu doesn't feel alone or left out cause he is not.

Did I say that? If you want to know you have to ask Yuzuru. My only speculation is that JSF complained to Orser, or else Orser wouldn't have mentioned that people need to be patient in the interview. I do agree with his view is that people need to be patient with Yuzuru's progress.

Let me tell you this, Asian mentality and Western/Northern American are very different. This has something to do with culture difference. In East Asian culture, there is something they say "you must realize it on your own" and they never tell you directly what they think it should be. Sometimes they expect you to know it by default. And when misunderstanding happens they're all like: "Why didn't you tell me before?"
If you ask me, I am frustrated by this from time to time. When I was in college a friend of mine just suddenly cut connection and block me and after years she came back and I was like: "What happened?" And she was like: "You had to figure it by yourself! Why should I teach you?" And in the end even she did not even remember why she did that.
I have Western friends who are puzzled by this difference. I do not think there is any negative thing about this. It is just different.
I am not surprised that there has been some misunderstanding between a group of East Asians (who grow up mostly in their countries) with Western groups. So it is GOOD for JSF to reach out and talk. So Orser and CC team could tell them directly that "this is a long progress, this is the strategy... please be patient, we have it all in our plans". It is better than just saying nothing.
