Alexander Petrov

He skates second tomorrow. PCS will be low. I can only hope that it will not be the lowest in the whole field.
Well having said this, I really doubt he will finish last overall. Someone else will definitely botch their jumps.

Lowest component marks came from judge #3 from China. Mostly 6.50s and two 6.75s.
Second lowest component marks from judge #7 from New Zealand. 6.75 to 7.25.

Highest component marks came from judge #6 from USA. Mostly 7.75s, one 7.50 and one 8.00
Second highest component marks came from judge #1 from Canada. Mostly 7.50s, one 7.25 and one 8.00.

Among the 5 components, the one that received the lowest marks was of course, transitions.

FS practice session:
Run-through: 3A turnout,3Lz,3Lz2T,2A etc.
Several unsuccessful quad attempts during the remaining time.

Edit:
Moskvina was at the practice session (while Prokofieva was not?). I don't know why.

Planned content has no quad in it. Layout is the same as SC according to the planned content sheet submitted for this competition.
If at Golden Spin there is no quad in the layout, then we can very well forget about it for the rest of the season.

Edit:
if you're not going to allow him to do a quad this season, at least allow him to backload another jumping pass. I am very sure that he is capable of doing 2/6 instead of just 3/5.
Very conservative, unambitious mindset of his coaches.

Just came to my mind, it makes no sense for him to do the 3T at the end of the program anyway. If he did it in the beginning it would
a) be a place for the possible quad attempt and
b) be worth more points since it would push the more valuable triples to later meaning it would increase their base value.

If I were the one who made the decisions, I would probably push also the 2A just before the second half begins. Again that would mean more difficult triples on the second half.

The current layout is silly. Why push 3T into second half and push 3Lz into first half. He loses TES. Basically it's back to last season's layout more or less.

Anyway, Sasha gave a good account of himself today. He did the maximum that he could given the layout they set for him
But once again, judges dislike his program. Didn't even hit 75 today. Very low PCS.

There must be stamina issues. You do 3T because It's easy and low energy.
There is no stamina issue. If there was a stamina issue he wouldn't keep having clean skates. Please use logic.
He does 3T because Mishin thinks that the way to learn 4T is to keep practicing 3T as a solo jump.

It is very weird seeing him having PCS problems. For both programs to be disliked by the judges. He has never had such an issue before.

Sasha finishes 6th, better than at SC. IMO should have been 5th but oh well.
I hope they will invite him to the gala tomorrow, fingers crossed!

He had the 5th highest TES - but yes, the second lowest PCS, which I cannot fathom.

But congratulations to Sasha on a great skate! He did his part, and he did it well. It sounded like the audience enjoyed it.

Unfortunately audience enjoyment does not matter to the judges. There is a problem with both programs from a choreographic/construction point of view. He was not as slow today as he was yesterday. I don't think that speed alone is the cause for such low PCS. Two guys who had horror skates had higher PCS than him. If Sasha had fallen I could accept such PCS but 3 competitions in a row (Panin Memorial doesn't count) he has been either completely clean or near clean and the PCS is near rock bottom in the field.

I am very disturbed by such PCS to be honest. I really hope Mishin takes the signal from the judges that they don't like his programs this season.

He is having clean skates because there is almost no big risky moves? No quad attempts, almost no difficulty after the first half. As was said he could start with the 3T but he doesn't. He could end with harder jumps but he doesn't. If a senior man is doing a 3T as a solo jump with no quads there's no other way but judges to look at him as either a junior or having bad stamina problems.

Except that he has started with the toe jump as the first jump this season. At the first SPB competition, at the Sochi test skates, at Nebelhorn and at Finlandia. At each instance he was near clean. And no difficulty in the second half? He has two combos in the second half, I wouldn't call that "no difficulty". At least get your facts right. Geesh.

Stop trying to manufacture something that isn't there. Namely this "no stamina" issue. You have to back it up with facts and not your "interpretation".

He doesn't have a triple axel in the second half. He could easily start off the second half with a triple axel. It was the norm for men to do that when they didn't do quads in recent years. I was just going by this competion obviously when I pointed out where his 3T was. If he did a triple axel combo in the second half that would be something. Also if his layout was 2/6. More speed, new non judge rejected programs, harder jumps; different layout with same jumps there's a lot to fix and change and work on. You can't deny judges are rejecting him so lots need to change.

I'm not trying to say it's a fact it's just speculation! Why is a senior man doing a 3T? Practicing quads is one answer.

Speculation which does not hold water at all so please end this "no stamina" talk because criticism that is not backed up by evidence is not helpful.

Fact is that he was scored lower on PCS than guys with almost 20 points lower TES, only one 3A and no quads. So can you really say his PCS is related to jumps/quads when the evidence says otherwise?
