Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

I'd say that it depends how well he can perform it.

I would think the top skaters tend to keep a program mostly if they were unable to fully perform it? Which was the case for Yuzu's Chopin, or Javier's Malaguena (neither had performed it fully clean the first year they used it), or Jason's Piano lesson (because he didn't really get to perform it that many times last year).

But once you nail a program, and basically get the best possible score for it... well, to me, it would be pointless to keep it. You'd have nothing to gain and everyone (including you) woud just get bored.

I think in olympics season back then in his and his coach mind maybe it is best to keep the SP that he is already so consistent and comfortable doing. Can't really afford to lose points in the SP during the olympics.

I'm with mcq, I think it makes sense to keep one program in the Olympic season so that you have less to learn and can concentrate on mastering the other, new, program more. And it'd be more logical for Yuzu to keep the SP because there isn't really anything Yuzuru can upgrade in SP anymore. Besides, if I were a judge, I'd look more favorably on a skater who decided to present a brand new LP than than the one who decided to keep the LP.

But if Yuzu doesn't manage to skate his LP clean this seaon ( which I sincerely hope won't happen), I think he might keep it.
I'm curious, is it because of the type of material and the colour which changes tone depends on the angle which makes it more revealing ? Or is the pants tighter than previous ones?

I can even see his thigh muscles definition . I like tight pants on Yuzu :p, especially his practice pants :luv17:

I think it's the combination of color and the material that does it. The white didn't look as shiny and it didn't have that two-tone quality because overall I don't think pants themselves are tighter. Well, inless Yuzu gained a bit tigh muscle in the month of training.

One thing that I'm finding a bit weird is how high his waist looks. Do you think the costume would look better if the waistcoat was longer? Or not?

I sincerely hope he does skate the LP clean this season and I think in general keeping the FS is unlikely. Considering who he is, it's not going to be looked at particularly favorably. The SP is different, it's great and technically he can upgrade it while still keeping the music and choreo. The jumps aren't fixed, depends what he decides to do.

Waking up to catch the Men's competition now. Are we not expecting a costume change for the FP??

hello i have an 8 hour long test in for hours and here i am waiting for Yuzu : D indeed, sanity is non existent in planet Hanyu :)

I'm not sure whether better if longer though. He got a very nice body proportion and slim so even short looks good on him .

This SP would certainly be a good Olympic vehicle, I think. The music is catchy and makes him project towards judges and public and this is very important when you have to face not only the die hard skating fans but also the occasional viewers. I remember that Borser mentioned sth about PW being used to show a "sexier" side of Yuzuru (ok, let's not deal wheter he was/is sexy or not) but I think a flirty, crowdpleasing program is just fine for the Olympic season (who doesn't remember Yuna's wink in Bond Girl, after all?).
That said, in my hearth I would love him to keep the FS, it's Olympic related (plus the Olympic competions were in Nagano that year) and even the title could be a sum of Yuzu's journey from one Olympic to another, his hopes for greatness and his incredible legacy to the skating world.

i think it would be good because it's so symbolic. And i feel like it's a very Yuzu program, i live how expressive he can be with H&L, since the music doesn't have a "story".

In all honesty, the minute I saw the program I thought "this is gonna be his FS in 2018", because of the whole symbolism behind it. But there is so much time and he may surprise us in so many ways, his choices of programs are usually extremely good (and I really hope he keeps Jeff and Shae for next season, they are fantastic matches for him, even though DW exhibition this year kinda rehabilitated him in my eyes as a fitting choreographer for Yuzu... but still, let's have him make his Olympic EX).
