Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

Seeing the side by side comparison of the Koi dance, it seems like Yuzu added in all the hip action himself :laugh2:

The Dutch commentators (same pair, I think) were rather less talkative today!

Eurosport highlights (Monday)
[Getting Keiji Tanaka’s 168 points] shouldn’t be a problem for him, Yuzuru Hanyu. It’ll be a wonderful GPF with Fernandez, Uno, Chan, and Hanyu assuming he isn’t going to do anything crazy. The absolute top four in figure skating, together in one mini-world championship. But to get that, Hanyu has to show normal things here in Sapporo.

(no talking during the FS)

Yuzuru Hanyu, already a whole lot better than at Skate Canada. He has made his programs more difficult this season by adding the quad loop. Four quads in this FS. He fell once with one of the salchows. And here it is, finally succesful, the quad loop. He fell on this jump in Canada, a stepout here in the SP, but now cleanly landed, beautiful! Scored almost 200 points for this free skate, and over the magic barrier of 300 in the total score, a barrier he himself broke a year ago as first man ever.

And for those of you looking for the PJ Kwong and Kurt Browning recap of NHK, I just watched it on the CBC page on Facebook. I have no clue how to link anything, but it's there.. and at first there is no sound so be patient. They mentioned how they feel like Yuzu wakes up for NHK and that's exactly what he did here. Interesting to hear his perspective and he loved Yuzu calling himself a rock star because that's what he remembers telling him over and over when he helped him with the Doors number a few years ago.

I think someone above already posted the link to this tumblr blog. But, this specific part really really makes me realizes once again why Yuzu is such an amazing athlete and why I idolize him so much. He says he loves the pressure. For him it's like standing on the edge of a cliff and goes "yoo hoo!" and he loves that feeling. I am an athlete myself and pressure is the worst enemy that always haunts you whenever wherever you are. Either you're doing good or bad, the pressure is always there. For him to be able to love it really makes him super professional. Just like how Johnny Weir praises him for his professionalism and commitment towards figure skating even after the OGM, I also appreciate how inspiring his mindset towards the sport is. I don't play the same sport as him, but I use some of his methods and most of the time it works!

Yuzuru's interview with Matsuoka-san

anyone can kindly help translate this?

OMG! This interview is pretty pretty wonderful. It’s the best of all interviews of NHK cup, I think. For me Matsuoka-san is the most suitable interviewer of yuzu. He is really good at drawing another side of yuzu and analyzing it. @ JuliettaG and @ b138oo posted the tumbler of this interview. Still I cant catch up all the information of NHK cup! This week, I want to settle them little by little (please await for a while with Dai’s comments.)

It's mind-blowing how self-aware and inspirational he is as a person, even since he was really young. He not only has the ability to evaluate himself very thoroughly but he also has the drive and will to actually take matters into his own hands to shape his own destiny. You can literally see him stop himself and change his mindset in another part of this interview. I can really understand why he put his GPF medal around Matsuoka's neck and thanked him for his interviews.

I'm late to the party but the fact that his 4S3T didn't get +3 across is shameless robbery. :angry1: Although the +3's on his 4Lo makes me... :scratch2:

Not sure if this news segment video was shared before: [video link]

It's an interesting news segment on Nathan, Yuzuru and quads, which is always fun to watch! Also, I really love it when other skaters say it's an honour to compete against Yuzuru because they look up to him.

That's what I said. And then a certain non-fan immediately gave me a list of GOE bullets (assuming that I didn't know them :rolleye:), saying that 4S3T only deserves 5 bullets and therefore not +3 worthy. :palmf:

As for that 4Lo +3 from Judge #1, I guess she was just really excited~ At least that's the only one and isn't counted. Now if judges can be as fair/strict with GOE regarding other skaters......

Don't know if it's been posted but here's BESP FS video, has 60fps (figure skating at high fps is so much better)

And ohmigosh can't stop watching the koi dance video, that goes straight into the folder of videos for bad days

If I'm not mistaken it's this interview, here subbed in Chinese if anyone who understands Chinese wants to watch it. I'll not translate since going from a translated version to another may not be accurate.

This is verbatim of translation done by Sophie Moroi @YHIFG FB of Yuzu interview with Matsuoka

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1610393525875114/permalink/1812502512330880/

Thank you for the English and Chinese translations! It seems like there is no English translation for the comments after the interview was done, which I found was really interesting too from the Chinese translation. My Chinese is a bit rusty, so if someone can translate directly from the Japanese or translate the Chinese better, please do so! I'm just trying to summarize and interpret what I'm understanding.

Matsuoka also mentioned that when he told Yuzuru that everyone expected him to get full marks, Yuzuru only had to say 'That is very challenging to accomplish' and we as the audience would lower our expectations already because he IS adding a new quad, challenging a 4Loop that no one else is doing, so even if he made any mistakes, we would still be supporting him. But he didn't back off and that is very 'Yuzuru Hanyu' style. He can adjust his frame of mind positively, giving himself pressure to make himself stronger, because he knows how to overcome the pressure.
