Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

If this actually works out for him and not giving him much trouble with jet-lag, I wonder if he will do this next year? (This is all an if lol). Next year is tricky because GPF is in Japan and NHK is not the last event, so there is about at least 3 weeks until GPF from NHK (assuming Yuzuru goes there which is very likely). Then 2-3 weeks after GPF is Nats, but he can't be in Japan for too long without a coach so I wonder if his returning to Canada and staying there longer has anything to do with his plan next year.
Also, same. I prefer to have him training with his coach than alone.

A part of me would not be surprised at all if this is a test so that they could know if this works on not, keeping the Olympics year in mind. He thinks ahead a lot.

I would be really surprised if he doesn't get NHK again next season so providing he does, that's twice a big gap to be on his own in a very important year; you make a great point there. I do think he's much more health conscious now, which is normal, but it's not just that which may potentially be affected. Overall, I prefer him to be with his team at his home base where he has everything available. Fingers crossed this works out for them to be honest, it may turn out to be a very important thing.

I am quite sure i heard him say "They came back after the competition" referring to Yuzu and Brian. Unless my ears deceived me, i do find it strange because it doesn't make sense :| and instagram didn't save the video or anything so unless someone recorded it i can't go back and hear it again :(

Are you absolutely sure Javi wasn't referring to Brian and Elisabeth? :scratch2:

Edit: read your earlier comment, question is answered)

Yeah, let's see :) Overall I am glad if someone can watch his training. Speaking of which, I wonder if someone else from Cricket will aid Brian in GPF. This year, he has 3 students competing there. Busy, busy. Assuming Yuzuru is indeed in Canada, he will fly altogether to Marseille with Brian, Javi (and Miki too probably) and Jun hwan. They should be flying latest by Monday I think? OP is on Wednesday.

edit for clearness: He was arriving to the rink and someone asked him to show Yuzu, he said "Yuzu, yuzu isn't here yet" and i thought "yeah, bc he is in japan" and said "but i can show brian. He's already here, they came back after the competition" kept walking and said, not quoting because it's the part that doesn't make sense, that yuzu should be arriving later at the rink but didn't know at what time. It is entirely possible that he thinks that Yuzu came back to canada too, that makes more sense. But like i said, i am quite sure he said that both of them had returned to Canada after NHK :scratch2:

They could mean Orser and Elizabet Tursynbayeva.

after watching NHK, my obsession with yuzuru has gotten rather intense lately...my friends think i've gone off the deep end...

after watching NHK, my obsession with yuzuru has gotten rather intense lately...my friends think i've gone off the deep end...

A friend of many years and that has been a witness of my obsessions through the years asked me yesterday "How did this happen? This is a whole new level i haven't seen before in you. And it happened so quickly". Until i explained to him how he is my favorite skater and that he makes me want to be a better person and work on my flaws (i admire his mental strength a lot) and he said "Ok, this is huge but you are actually being reasonable..."
My (former! I graduated yesterday :D) classmates all know now who Yuzuru Hanyu is :D and they don't know anything about skating haha. I think it is because right now there are so many things floating around about him, about his planned changes, the new jump he is trying, the expectation for the olympics and if he is going to make more changes to the costume :P More than your obsession getting more intense, i think the feeling comes from the amount of information that we can get right now :)

EDIT: I refreshed the page after posting this and saw your avatar. That smile deactivates me. Help.

I know what you mean. Like Satoko says "Because of you I will also work harder" (even though I'm not a skater, although I recently started because of watching Yuna and then Yuzu) I feel like I need to work harder towards my goals the way he is so dedicated to his :luv17: although in the end it might even out because of how much time I'm "wasting" watching his vids LOL

I KNOW, RIGHT?! I can't deal. :tantrum:

ETA: BTW, congrats on graduation!!!

it's not just happening to you... I believe it is part of our human nature to be mesmerised by the beauty of his performance and personality ;) I was never into men's figure skating, not that it is not artistic, but I found female skaters a lot closer to my perception of beauty. But Yuzuru's performances just have the ability to hit me right in the soul

He does inspire me to work harder and do things right :) even overcoming my fears. An "obsession" that actually makes you improve yourself can't be bad, so i can't feel bad about spending time feeding it :D.

I just love his smile, really lights up my days :D

And thanks! I was joking because my classmates chose the color red to wear on the official ceremony and the shirts with our name and everything are Lotte Red! The skirt/pants have to be black for the ceremonies so you can imagine i was feeling extra lucky  kept singing the recent CM's song lol

That was me before Sochi ;) i never paid attention to men's, only ladies and occasionally pairs, and even then i often missed the FS season, because of the lack of coverage here. But whenever i could catch it, i would only watch the ladies.

When I first became really into figure skating my favorites were Plushenko and Sasha Cohen. She embodied everything beautiful on the ice, and in contrast he embodied the power with the 4/3/2 combination and his other amazing jumps. I like that I can look to different disciplines and find something to enjoy. I fell out of the sport after they were more or less done in 2006 but when I came roaring back when I noticed Yuzu in late 2013. He's renewed my love for the sport. My last worlds before I went to Boston this year was in 2003 when it was in my hometown (Washington, DC). , lol. And now it looks like I'm going to Helsinki. Yuzu combines both beauty and power and I actually would rather watch him just skate than a number of the ladies.

That could be my ignorance, but I have never imagined anyone that could be elegant but powerful, soft but fierce, with the flexibility of a female figure skater and the techniques and strength of a man. He perfectly fits into my personal definition of beauty, because since then, whenever I watch other great skaters, although I still applaud for their performances, I just feel I want something more from them. (I hope you get what I mean...my limited english :palmf:) It sounds really cheesy but Yuzu is truly a gift for me

and btw, I am really surprised at Yuzu's popularity in this forum. I have always known he is extremely popular in Asia (Yuzu is really cute and attractive in Asian's standard, not to mention his ability in figure skating) but I used to think that non-asians will find the performance/appearance of other skaters, e.g. Javi, more to their taste and preference. I guess I am terribly wrong to assume!

Don't know if it's been posted but here's BESP FS video, has 60fps (figure skating at high fps is so much better)

I've meant to ask opinions about it: is it really better? The video seems definitely sharper, as if it had higher resolution, but the movement looks slower to me, the skaters seem oddly sluggish. Personally I much prefer 25/30 fps videos because they look more dynamic which imo is super important in skating. I noticed it when sabinfire started uploading vids in 60 fps a year or two ago, and it still holds true. Her 60 fps vid of Yuzuru's SP look less dynamic than HD 25 fps videos.

Thoughts?

Oh, I want to share some information with you, but I find one after another!
https://twitter.com/tokyoshashinbu/status/803261837047255040

this photo of his 4loop at FP is by Tokyo shinbun and interesting to me. “For taking the continuous synthesized photo, you must gasp which point he takes off and lands in advance. The choice of the aperture of the lens is also crucial. The photographers checked them up watching practice videos. “

Hello! I'm new to this forum and a (kinda) new fan of Yuzu. Please excuse my poor english :)
I have been lurking around for quite some time. It took me WEEKS to read through this entire thread but I am learning a lot from you guys! I love the atmosphere here: unlike some fans outside that seem to be over-defensive, I see rational discussions on techniques and information relating to figure skating and Yuzu. (while loving this adorkable boy)
Nice to meet you all!

Welcome cherryncy!:ghug: Stay long, post many!

You could credit SOME non-Asians with better taste than that! ;) No offence to Javi though - he's quite fit as well, but not a patch on Yuzu!

Agreed. I like a couple of the girls but no one makes me feel so much love like yuzu :luv17: I felt the same for Yuna (and still do) but she's not skating anymore and I'm glad I found someone who I can get behind the same way (because let's face it, figure skating isn't as fun when you're not ubering for someone )
