Yuzuru Hanyu: 2016-17 Season

Does any one know if there is a video of the medalists' press conference after the Men's free in its entirety on YT or DM? I've gotten curious what else Yuzu and Nathan said about each other's quads after watching that news clip linked in esopian's post upthread.

I looked up the protocols and watched some videos of Nathan from the 2014-2015 season on in order to better comprehend the context in which Yuzu said, all the way back in Aug. 2015, that Nathan would include [two] quads in the short. (He didn't explicitly say "two" in that video, but that's what I think he meant as he was talking about keeping up.) The only short program in the senior event category that Nathan had skated before that footage was 2015 Glacier Falls which took place end of July to beginning of August 2015. Prior to that event I believe the only events where he had attempted quads were 2015 US Nats FS, 2015 Jr. Worlds FS, and 2015 Broadmoor Open in June (he only skated the LP there.) I'm surprised how he was informed/aware back then of specific junior skaters that could potentially beat him on the technical side. I could be wrong but the female voice I hear in the background in that portion is Ms. Shirota and the strategist that she is, she might have been educating Yuzu whom he should be aware of in making decision to upgrade his jump arsenal in preparation for Pyeongchang. (That's just totally my guess. I don't read FS magazines so don't know what Ms. Shirota has been saying publicly.)

Since no one replied to you yet, I think that in regards to NHK trophy the press videos are usually held to be shown in japanese media. Just like practice videos, we can only found some clips of his run throughs in japanese news but no fancams since it's forbidden. :angry2: I don't think they released or will release the press conference in it's enterity.
You can try searching the media videos to find more press conference clips at this channel, the one where that NathanxYuzuru video was posted and others.

Yeah, let's see :) Overall I am glad if someone can watch his training. Speaking of which, I wonder if someone else from Cricket will aid Brian in GPF. This year, he has 3 students competing there. Busy, busy. Assuming Yuzuru is indeed in Canada, he will fly altogether to Marseille with Brian, Javi (and Miki too probably) and Jun hwan. They should be flying latest by Monday I think? OP is on Wednesday.

The guy that often goes with them, who was with Yuzuru after he was done in Boston? I can never remember his name :o: but I think since he's gone before, he might again. Someone has to, way too many competitors otherwise. Monday latest for sure, I don't think they can postpone any longer than that, considering.

and btw, I am really surprised at Yuzu's popularity in this forum. I have always known he is extremely popular in Asia (Yuzu is really cute and attractive in Asian's standard, not to mention his ability in figure skating) but I used to think that non-asians will find the performance/appearance of other skaters, e.g. Javi, more to their taste and preference. I guess I am terribly wrong to assume!

Hello and welcome to the forum!
I don't think it's an unreasonable assumption to make but Yuzuru is, for me, the one true mega-star of skating. He has world-wide, international following which is why I say that as much as it's great for him, it is also excellent for the sport itself because it is in somewhat of a decline and it needs skaters like him. But stars of his caliber are rare, in any sport, and I think a lot has to do with his personality too, apart from his incredible skating, as well as the thing which we talked about recently, a very interesting duality of fragility and incredible strength in him (loads of people find him attractive btw, loads!)

Yuzu is really cute and attractive in Asian's standard,
Even my father , the first time he saw Yuzu on the screen said he was really beautiful . For my father to say that about a man , it's really something lol ^_^ He will see Yuzu in real for the 1st time at GPF , I hope that his first impression will remain haha ^^V

That could be my ignorance, but I have never imagined anyone that could be elegant but powerful, soft but fierce, with the flexibility of a female figure skater and the techniques and strength of a man. He perfectly fits into my personal definition of beauty, because since then, whenever I watch other great skaters, although I still applaud for their performances, I just feel I want something more from them. (I hope you get what I mean...my limited english :palmf:) It sounds really cheesy but Yuzu is truly a gift for me

Well honestly, for me I mostly feel platonically for Yuzu, but he also looks like a baby to me and I'm 31, lol. I do get a kick out of the fanfare because it reminds me of when I was younger and had my heartthrobs (like the Backstreet Boys). I find him irresistibly cute in an adorable sense. In terms of who is truly "dreamy" for me it'd be more of a Daisuke or a Javi. But my love for Yuzu and his skating eclipses both of those if I had to choose. But I choose not to choose and I enjoy it all

Not sure if this news segment video was shared before: [video link]

It's an interesting news segment on Nathan, Yuzuru and quads, which is always fun to watch! Also, I really love it when other skaters say it's an honour to compete against Yuzuru because they look up to him.

Agree! Yuzu to Boyang, yuzu to shoma… Watching the interactions with the rising skaters are really fun. And yuzu’s tender face… Once he was a rising sun like them and was just chasing seniors. Now he’s in the current position. His passion will get bigger to meet those young skaters. They are so inspirational for yuzu.

so jealous! It's so far away just for a couple hours of competition otherwise I'd go. I am going to Helsinki though :D Sadly there will probably not be many more competitions to see since the olympics are only next year and he said he might retire then? (did he?) either way it's a possibility (I know he will skate in shows, but it's not the same...) I know that if i could go back in time I would see as many of Yuna's competitions as I could and I regret never seeing her live :sad4:

I've meant to ask opinions about it: is it really better? The video seems definitely sharper, as if it had higher resolution, but the movement looks slower to me, the skaters seem oddly sluggish. Personally I much prefer 25/30 fps videos because they look more dynamic which imo is super important in skating. I noticed it when sabinfire started uploading vids in 60 fps a year or two ago, and it still holds true. Her 60 fps vid of Yuzuru's SP look less dynamic than HD 25 fps videos.

Thoughts?

You must have a monitor/viewing device completely capable of taking the advantage of the 60fps. I have watched 60fps videos on my phone before, and in a smaller tv that i connect to my computer, but until i used the huge full HD tv on my living room connected to my gaming pc with hardware acceleration enabled on the videos, i couldn't see a significant difference. It looked as if the TV was a window to the rink, very VERY lifelike.

Edit: It's also entirely possible that you can't perceive the difference. I know it's extremely rare but there are some people who can't see a difference beyond xxFPS...

We do not talk about the R word
Seriously though, he did but that was a good while ago and then, relatively recently, I don't think it is even a month ago, when asked, paraphrasing here, what would he do if he won PC, he said well, get more. So it seems like he changed his mind, which makes me really happy.

Indeed. On ice, he mesmerises people; off ice, his interesting (complicated and constrasting but in a nice way) personality keeps them interested and adores him.

My parents as well! It is extremely rare for my parents, given the enormous generation gap, to actually agree with me on such a subjective issue.
I am really pissed because I will only be in Helsinki in Feb! ugh

:X got it :p

and YES!! he's not a long shot for the olympics after that, either, methinks

Agreed. I like a couple of the girls but no one makes me feel so much love like yuzu :luv17: I felt the same for Yuna (and still do) but she's not skating anymore and I'm glad I found someone who I can get behind the same way (because let's face it, figure skating isn't as fun when you're not ubering for someone )

:agree: Also for me, Yuzu kind of ended the Yuna drought in 2012!!

Oh god, I'm slightly younger than yuzu but I still like him in the way you are. He is too precious(?) for me to having feelings physically. I just cant imagine lol! All I want is to pinch his face

He's still so very young for all that he has achieved, so he definitely can. I think it'll just depend on his health. Of course, I'll support whatever he does and makes him happy, that goes without saying, but I do feel like he loves not just skating, but competing and the challenge it brings, especially with the young ones coming up so I wouldn't be surprised at all if he's all pumped up and raring to go!

lol i wish i thought about it the way you do, then i can judge his skating based on skating alone :p but noooope, i think he's really attractive in an adorable way and it makes me cry a little because he exists and i can't have him *goes cry in a corner* :sad4:

but enough creeping from me now

Don't be jealous on me but I watched Yuna in live once, 2013's worlds. I was never a fan of Les Misérables, but Yuna sold to me, completely. I was already teary at her last spin:agree:A moment you would never forget; you don't even wanna share with others coz the memory was so emotional in a very personal way

I agree. I don't think that the exact time is really what matters to him. His point is to leave the competitive scene at his peak. As long as his body permits, I think his competitive side won't let him easily let go of all the challenges ahead.

I remembered it was Johnny and Tara commented during Yuzu's free program at 2013's GPF that Yuzu can go to another two Olympics (not including Sochi) and win them:p

I do, though, have devices, I mean. I get the same impression on mobile (newest android with up-to-date youtube apps) and up-to-date browsers on desktop windows. I even get the same impression when I download the vid and use a player to watch it, and believe me, I tested many browsers and players because this issue just wouldn't leave me alone last year. It just seems slower, like some sort of slow motion quality. I know it can't be actually slower because the music plays perfectly fine, there's no lagging, and the movements are as on music as on regular videos and yet... I thought that perhaps it's due to the very nature of lower fps, the fact that there are fewer frames meaning the motion is less smooth and therefore more dynamic.

I don't know, maybe it's just me. I can also always tell when a TV has an enforced frame creation on and I dislike it usually, so maybe this is the way I perceive higher fps.

For example, when I compare Yuzuru's SP by Universal uploaded by sabinfire in 60 fps and Yuzuru's SP from APEHA uploaded by 1tvDance, the one by 1tvDance seems faster and more dynamic, even though it's less sharp.

If anyone's got spare time, perhaps give it a watch and tell me your impressions? The same or not?

OR maybe I too need to hook it up to some serious hardware, more serious to what I have on my pc (which isn't too shabby) but without it, it just doesn't fly in my eyes.
