:laugh: Yes, that insane. It's because from what I understand, they are essentially, incompetent in how they handle that account. They used a local webnews service and posted that on the account. This is the original tweet. This account is even linked to on the official ISU website.

I agree with cherryncy fans, in general, can be scary but on this occasion this was good because they were fast and many, so they got the ISU's attention. It's not something that should be allowed ever, as many a general fan will read it and not get that it's false since it's an official account. It's how bad blood is started. This is the new tweet up now, saying they removed it immidiatly from the Official WB account and that this view does not represent ISU.

I think it is not necessarily about Yuzuru. Almost everyone and their grandmas add a quad this year. Even those who doesn't have one in the past. Rippon, Brown and as you mentioned there is Patrick, Kolyada, Nathan etc. I think what she meant is that it is going to be more of a splatfest this season, because yes, if you fall, your performance gets disrupted and affected, and you will likely lessen some choreography and transition in order to afford the quad in your program. I noticed this from Chan too actually, he does reduce his transition compared to his past programs. Even Yuzuru's choreo for H/L is not in its full-form yet, as what Shae-Lynn has said in her interview. But you need time to get those quads out there so I don' think she means this as a bad thing.

Yes, but what I mean is that there's no huge discrepancy when it comes to other seasons of this quad. For example, Jason had to put that 4T there eventually, this season is actually quite late but better late than never. Adam actually dropped the 4lz and is going for the toe loop; well better a real quad that a holographic one. It's just that Nathan went senior and Boyang plus Shoma are in their second senior season so it gives an impression that there's suddenly many men with multiple quads but they've been like that since forever. The only one that can make a case for recently adding a lot of tech is Shoma, since he went from barely managing to land a 3A in in 2013 or 2014 to where he is now, even so he's been doing it for 3 seasons now and this shows more about his quality of training in particular than all of the other men. Actually, Kolyada is the exception for me, since he suddenly this season started adding tech, so he's a good example of the quad trend you mentioned but this coincides with his rise into the russian spotlight ever since his potato medal at Worlds. So I don't see everyone adding a quad; I see the ones who were already adding quads doing the same as always and the ones who had to add it finally doing it; (Patrick, Jason, Adam, if you count that his 4lz was a phantom), so same old same old. It's a slight difference in concept but I think it exists.

The time you need to get the quads out there is similar to any other season where Yuzuru had a major change in his layout; it can be bigger like the time for the 4S to get consistent or less like how he's been managing to land 3 quads in the LP now already by one season, now in the second. So it virtually means every season, not just this one.

Hm, I don't know, I do feel that the quads are out this year, though to be honest it all started last year after Yuzuru's NHK + GPF, but we all see it come together and accumulate this year so maybe that is the impression that she is getting. Chan was only doing 1 quad last year actually, only adding his 2nd by 4cc and Shoma only tried 4F at Team Challenge, when the season already ended. Last year you would only see 4S, 4T and 4Lz (barely, only Jin and Rippon attempted it) in GP + worlds while this year you already see all type of quads beside axel being landed and attempted by different skaters in GP series. So, I get why her impression is that this year is a quad year.
 
Speaking of which, I think Yuzuru very rarely landed an UR jump. Most of his UR calls are where he fell, I think? Probably because he doesn't have enough airtime etc + his speed coming into his jump thus he gets rounded and falls when his jumps are not fully rotated.

The Chinese fan who shared various slow motions of skaters' jumps has that conclusion as well, because Yuzuru goes into his jumps with crazy speed, if he lacked the height (aka might lead to UR) he definitely fell. Yuzuru isn't the type who rotate on the ice because of lack of height. It's the speed he goes into it lead to this. There is no doubt about Yuzuru's 4Lo at NHK. I have rewatched it over and over again. He landed both 4Lo completely fully.

I think it's the other types of quads that is getting into people's head.

Yuzuru = New 4Loop
Patrick = New 4S
Boyang = 4Lz (apart from common ones)
Nathan = 4Lz, 4flip (apart from common ones)
Shoma = 4Flip 3,5 flip jk, ly shoma (apart from common ones)
Jason and Adam = New 4T

So it's basically the: "pATRICK with a 4S, Jason and Adam landing qUADZ ?! 4F, 4LZ?? Never thought I would live for tHAT!!1!!1!" sentiment.

But if one actually see the trend that has been going for quite a lot of seasons until now and watched juniors it's not that surprising. maybe i just watch too much juniors

What do you think of the performance of Yuzuru?

Shae: I think this is a song which Yuzu wholeheartedly wants to skate to. He has decided to use this song at the beginning of the choreography, and brought this song to me. He has a past with this song: this is the theme song for 1998 Nagano Paralympics and he told me that was the time he began skating. Therefore, I think that this is a meaningful song to him. As for me, when I heard of his words, I tried to link his story to the theme of Hope & Legacy. All his life experiences from the moment he stepped on the ice. I want to exhibit all these elements in the programme. What is in his mind as an athlete? Yuzuru has achieved the dream of an athlete -- Olympics Gold medalist. But now he is chasing after a new dream. Believe in oneself, overcome all challenges, never stop going forward regardless of circumstances. This is what I want to express.

When listening to this song by Joe Hisaishi, how do you interpret the song?

Shae: I think that it is a beautiful song, with emotions unique to Japanese culture. While it is classical, its Japanese characteristics shine. Needless to say, it is a song to which he can connect himself to. In the process of choreographing, I also tried to feel his story. When he first met the ice, when he first learnt skating, the amazement when he touches the surface, that wonderful feeling to skate on ice...I think he is full of curiosity. Shae: He always has deep thoughts and feelings for musics. As you all know, at first the coach Brian Orser sent me an email, saying "I hope Yuzuru can skate to your programme". Yuzuru wanted to skate to Phantom at that time, but to be honest, I have seen so many skaters performing this song. I hesitated, but I wanted to fulfil his dream. When we began the choreography work, I am very surprised that he is so full of emotions; and care for other, he always care for others in his heart. He is very clear what he is skating for, what kind of performance he wants to show his fans. We only had four days to work on at that time, but I am truly moved by how he wanted to challenge himself with his best efforts. It was smooth at that time, but looking back, we work much better now. We exchange our thoughts and opinions thoroughly now, and as time passed, I can understand Yuzuru's personal things. (?)

He found the song for SEIMEI but we worked together for choreography and combination. The instant I listen to this song, the image of the work pops up in my brain immediately. He also had what he wanted to achieve and actively participated in the process, so we communicate candidly. It is also very interesting to learn Japanese culture. I think this experience and feeling also help in Hope & Legacy. As the season progress, I was full of emotional thoughts to see him turning SEIMEI into his own character. Imagine a curious little yuzuru with eyes wide open. He enjoys the wind that blows on him with every step forward, he loves the feeling of sliding.

As the programme continues, there will be moments of struggle and moments of joy. After the circular foot work, Yuzuru places his hand in front of himself and looking through his fingers. This represents how yuzuru sees his reflection in the mirror. He finds his reflection. A lot of times, you are your own biggest criticizer. He doesn't like his reflection. With fear and horror, with excess strictness, he sees his imperfections. But then, he shake it off, break the mirror and left. He wanted to move forward. He doesn't allow him to spoil himself. He trust his ability to move forward.

IKR. It's like the 10000th time I watch his 17 yo Romeo but I still gasp at the moment he fall. Even when he moves "casually" and naturally on ice, the emotions deliver well - I don't even know how he does this.

She just put into words the exact reason why i love him so much. He truly is a gift for the sport, and because of that i also don't want to see him go so soon :( I'm going to miss him terribly...

Thank you so much for this translation! Usually when I read that something will make me cry, I don't because I'm prepared but this time I actually cried when I reached the second bolded sentence, where he shares his hopes and dreams with the entire world, especially knowing that he himself choreographed the ending pose specifically. He craves the attention but he never takes it for granted and is always grateful to those who support him. I read somewhere on tumblr, from someone who was at Skate Canada, that during practices, he would very often look at the fan's banners up in the stands and nod at them, which I think is a real source of his strength. We are all sharing this journey and helping with him towards his goals.

Now I need to rewatch Hope & Legacy with the entire story in mind. He actually expressed it really well even without the backstory but it's even more beautiful and poignant now.

Shae Lynn's interview is so touching. I'm glad Yuzu found someone to work with who understands his journey, his motivation and helped him display all of it on the ice. Thanks Shae for making so many amazing programs for Yuzu :)
Perhaps they got a chance to work a bit more on polishing his programs this week before the Final and that's why he is (might be?) In Canada right now?
