Elena Radionova

Everybody relax.

Satoko didnt't get called for her UR. Lena did. That's life, sh... stuff happens.

Just chill, drink some tea/coffee/whatever you like, and wait to see how the FS pans out.

edit: Radionova isn't the type of girl who's gonna piss and moan about her problems, and if we admire her, neither should we!

Hope she makes it at Nationals, I have tickets for Europeans and she is the most important one I want to see there :)

Now we have reasons to be worried for Nationals.

I don't agree with this. It's not like Lena has been dusting up the ice this season. Her two GP outings were decent and she generally competes well at home. Each competition is a separate event and not based on a prior outing. I can see Lena coming out fierce at Nat after this.

Yeah, I think Elena is a late bloomer so her struggle with puberty will probably continue onto next year. Hopefully by Olympic season, she will be stabilized. But she is a fighter and I'm glad this disappointing skate has lit a fire beneath her. I know this is a fan thread so I hate to sound critical, but she really needs to work on her jump landings. Even if she lands all of them, they are wonky or shaky, and if the other girls skate clean, they are (usually) deservedly placed before her. I would also LOVE to see her work with the same lady who worked on Maria Sotskova's posture, because seeing the two of them skate one after another was really eye-opening for me. The judges have shown that when the top ladies skate clean, they are usually more than happy to place Evgenia, Anna, Satoko, Gracie, Kaetlyn, and maybe Ashley before Elena, depending on the country they are competing in, and who the tech caller is.

So...work hard, Elena and best of luck at nationals! We'll still all be rooting for you!

ETA: Also, I'm not completely feeling the Turandot program yet. I personally love the music, so it's not that. I just don't think the choreography is very good. The second part is really just jump after jump, and when Elena has shaky landings, it just detracts from the crescendo of the music. Honestly, in terms of choreography, her Titanic program was much more interesting. Her SP by Shae Lynne Bourne is wonderful though. I'm hoping she has 2 great programs for Olympic year. I can't believe I'm saying this, but maybe it wouldn't be the worst idea to work with Averbuch again? He did choreograph two of my favorite programs for her (JLo/Tango SP and Frida LP).

It's okey :) I believe everyone of us can see what she needs to work on, we just dont often talk about them. I dont see much improvements too.

wishing her best of luck on Nats. (I really hope she's participating in B competitions not just GP events)

I dont remember the issue about Averbuch, but hoping they will work together again someday :)

If she doesn't, I hope she does in the next season. I'm just taking the bombings from my favourites this year in stride under the logic they'll probably bounce back better next season, when Olympics is what matters the most. I really hope they do.

Why exactly? Because she lost FGP? This is about figure skating, not formula 1.
Next week it could be completly different.

I agree that she did very well at GP, and, of course, she may well skate at Nationals the way she did in China, but... when it comes to Russian nationals, it's simply not true that each event is separate. The previous seasons I wouldn't have worried, but this year Buyanova - the new coach of Maria Sotskova - who is the head fs coach at TSKA and is obviously very influential, has lost Kovtun to Goncharenko, and won't have anyone to go to the championships with, unless Sotskova medals at Nationals. Even before GPF I saw Russian articles extolling Sotskova to the skies, one actually going as far as saying that Sotskova now finds herself in the same position as Sotnikova before the OG. And now that Elena has lost her 10 points in the GPF I'm really worried about her. I've already seen Vaitzhekhovskaya's article, insulting her in V's usual rude way and saying Sotskova has shown she's ready to claim the bronze at Nationals, and V is a generally a good indicator of where Rus Fed is headed. I'm afraid if all the four girls have decent skates at Nationals, Rus Fed will place Maria on the pedestal at Elena's expense. This will doubtlessly please Buyanova even more because I've read it on Russian forums many times how Buyanova had tried to make Elena switch from Goncharenko to her for years (before she took on Sotskova), but Elena wouldn't do it no matter what, and, of course, in the summer Kovtun left Buyanova for Goncharenko too. But mostly it's the issue of getting to go to championships. I don't see Buyanova settling for sitting them out at home, and as head fs coach at TSKA she sure has a lot of influence with the Fed. I was worried even before the final, but didn't want to post anything in hopes Elena will distance herself from Maria in the opposite way, but now I really don't expect anything like fair judging at the Russian Nationals, unless Maria bombs, of course (not that I wish her that, of course, but I think Elena is in a totally different class). I bet Rus Fed had been itching to put Sotskova on the team, and now they've got just the ammunition they need. :(

:( But, TAT supports Elena. Doesn't that count for something? If they judge Elena unfairly, I am going to stop watching ladies FS. The only reason I watch is to root for Elena anyway...

I don't know whom TAT supports, but I think it was one thing when Elena was the only top lady from TSKA and another thing when it's no longer the case. As to your reaction to unfair judging, I can totally understand you. I once stopped watching fs for the entire Olympic cycle because of it, and I've been watching it for more than 30 years. But on the whole I feel that the pleasure I get from watching my favorite skaters' performances outweighs my sadness over the unfair judging.

I'm not really a fan of what Averbukh is doing with Evgenia(I prefer Zhulin's choreography for Evgenia), but I think for the Olympic season that Radionova should get Averbukh to choreograph the LP. Radionova's best programs have been with Averbukh and frankly I think "choreographer shopping" from season to season has not been good for Radionova(it also hasn't been good for Tukt or Yulia either). For the SP she should work with someone she's worked with before.

If somehow Elena doesn't make the world team, I think she should do a couple Senior Bs(MNNT Cup January 10–15, Bavarian Open February 14–19) in order to get more standings points to ensure she would be the in final group should she make it to the Olympics. It would also be a way to keep her name "out there" and herself in shape should someone else be injured and she is needed as an alternate. This would give Elena an extra 2 months(there's the World Team Trophy) to mentally switch to thinking about the Olympic season rather than 4 months which IMO might be too long to focus.
