Thanks. Someone says something to him at the end though in the last few seconds and he puts his hands on his face. Looks like right at the 1:43 mark she says it and then he puts his hands on his face. I can't make out what she shouted to him for him to make that face. It's right before someone says what sounds like "motte iru yo" at the very very end.

First I wanna say congrats for Yuzu!!! 4th consecutive GPF title!! What a feat! :clapper:

Jumping in the loop/half-loop topic.. why it was downgraded. I think it was because he actually did a step out of 3A, it just didn't really show because well he's Yuzu :laugh: plus, the fact that the loop does seem like a little (albeit intentional in normal circumstances) step out so I'm guessing they just went with the downgrade. Not that it matters anyway, he still got the mark for the combo.

Also I saw he tricked his 3A step out in the gala with some cool step/spinny stuff :laugh2:

Maybe not the performance he was hoping for.. but he said he felt tired somehow so.. Anyway he still managed to land 3 quads so that's something. He's getting there! I also noticed he changed the entry to the 3Lz from ina bauer (it's held longer) since NHK so it must be messing with his head too but I think he'll be fine just need more time to adjust.

I also noticed the way he exited his Biellmann spin now oh man it's gorgeous it's so soft and I certainly much prefer that way.

He performed his free so well even if not all techs were there. All the little details are so enjoyable. Maybe many people prefer Seimei because it has more character.. but I think this program is special as it is. It's hard to describe but all the nuances and little flair put into it gives it its own character.

LOL at the Russian girls getting giddy with their fangirling :laugh: (but I mean who wouldn't..)

Ok I turned up the volume to max and could barely make it out. Think he said something about the 3A from twizzles and that he can do it. Then they made him pose with the "just a little more" hand (the Lumande one). He asked if anyone brought xylitol white, since that's his sponsor. They might get mad for all this free promotion of Lumande lol. Then someone said they brought it and he got very embarrassed! I guess that's how evgenia ended up with the bottle.

EDIT: think i might've been mistaken, I think fans asked for a pose and he picked that one himself? Need better ears!

Yep, i think the fans just shouted "Pose!" and he made the "Mou chotto" pose
He looked so cute when he covered his face♥

From what I could tell the fans asked for him to pose and he did the "mou chotto" pose, which was similar to the Xylitol White pose with the stick of gum, hence how he ended up doing the dance and the gum canister came into the conversation.

The crazy combos that Hanyu has been trying out in Gala practice makes me think he is seriously considering his strategy past 2018 Olympics. We know that post 2018, the men's FS will be reduced to only 7 jumping passes. With that limitation, it becomes even more important to maximize your jump combinations. Now, a lot of skaters do a combination jump with only a double toe loop or double loop because they don't have enough triple and quadruple jumps to fill all their jumping slots, but with one jump less, and with how many quads people can do now, it becomes a waste if any of the jumps is just a planned double. Those who can do jump combos ending in one or two kinds of triples will be at a disadvantage.

So, let's come up with some of the possible jump layouts Hanyu might consider.

4Loop, 4Sal, 3Flip, | 3A-1/2Loop-4Sal, 3A-3Loop, 4Toe, 3Lutz-3Toe

This is based on the fact that Hanyu is trying to have a 4Sal at the end of his 3 jump combo multiple times, and he tried to tack on a 3Loop at the end of a different 3 jump combo (the loop being under rotated). However, if it is the second jump after a 3Axel, hopefully he would be able to master it quicker.

Now, I know he wants to try to add a 4Lutz next. What would he do then?

4Lutz, 4Loop, 3Flip | 3A-1/2Loop-4S, 3A-3Loop, 4Sal-3Toe, 4Toe

This is such a ridiculous layout... And I can't imagine how his layout will change if he adds a QUAD AXEL, as he is dreaming of doing one day. And it's dependent on him being able to upgrade his combos in the future... but the interesting thing is, Hanyu is thinking about these possibilities even now, so he has more options in the future.

In any case, I am very curious to see if the rule change will actually encourage more 3Loop combos from the men in the future. And if the men will be able to still create new "world record" scores with one less jumping pass.

*Note: the reason why I have Hanyu still jumping a 3Flip instead of a higher base value jump, like 3Lutz, is because I think Hanyu has a point of pride in including a jumping pass of all six types.

What I find interesting is the Japanese media's attention to Nathan Chen. They're already doing vs. Hanyu's quads vs Nathan's.

It's nothing new. They did it with Boyang too last year. Before Sochi, they would compare his BV with Patrick. When Shoma added a 4F, they compared their BV too.
