Evgenia Medvedeva

When they decide on Evgenia's music and choreography next year for the Olympics, they need to focus hard(i.e. should be a deciding factor in picking a program) on her late jumps passes in her long because those are the weakest parts of her programs. Her late jumps passes in her long programs in the past two years have been a choreographic black holes(last year wasn't that bad). Frankly, it would be easier to do this if from the beginning they would put lyricism as the top attribute of the program rather than any sort of story.

Very interesting, new, big interview came out with Zhenya http://rsport.ru/interview/20161219/1113938087.html
Small excerpts:

- The second season at you very strong free skating, with new social message.
- Oh, thanks! And that to me is said that I same prepare.

- But just style former.
- Perhaps, style really one, and stories different. Probably, about it it is already possible to speak as about a part of image. But in the next years I will act in new role. It is interesting to me to try another. Will come it is time to change soon.

- You dream of it?
- Meanwhile not. But I want to try it.

- What? Classical music?
- Perhaps. And, maybe, something more clockwork, even passionate.

- Many experts allocate in Adelina Sotnikova certain "champion giving" in driving. Even when something is impossible to her. What giving such - a look of the figure skater is?
- I will begin from depth. I don't trust in power, I don't believe that it is somehow transferred, whether it be is negative or positive. In sport everything depends on you. But concerning champion giving I can agree that it after all it also is – power. This ability to leave and adjust the viewer on that harmony which is necessary to you. That it turned out, it is necessary to radiate that champion power. In my opinion, experts speak about it.

- At you it turns out?
- At me it turns out?

- Yes.
- Probably, not to me to solve it, and not me to answer this question.

At this moment of Zhenia has interrupted me. On the TV screen the president of Russia Vladimir Putin spoke with the prime minister of Japan Shinzo Abe about the outlined "certain shift in the Russian-Japanese relations".
- It is good, - thirty seconds later the world champion using special respect in Japan has continued.

- The Russian-Japanese subject is interesting to you also at the level of policy?
- I think that yes. It is quite good that our countries approach.

- The Japanese fans don't ask you whether Russia will return them islands of the Kuril ridge?
- No. There is definitely no it. Intentions are pleasant to me, but I don't go deep into political artful designs. I and in the room have no TV, I don't watch it. I even am not aware of news on this subject for one simple reason: sport out of policy.

- Unfortunately, it often not so. About Richard McLaren's reports you for certain have heard a lot?
- I should watch this subject. Important.

- You have no feeling that you spend so many forces for work, win, the next year has to be yours, and suddenly on someone's fault all our national team can not go to the Olympic Games?
- On my eyes the similar situation with Bobrova&Soloviev was already developed.
I understand how it is heavy how it is offensive and as all this is difficult. I hope that won't carp at our "pure" Russian athletes any more. Because it is simply unfair. If the athlete isn't "pure", he has to be punishable. If he is absolutely not guilty of anything, I don't think that he to him has the right to ban to go towards the aim to which he moves all the life.

- You are often asked about quad jump. As far as I watch figure skating, there is feeling that during the Olympic season nobody will storm them because of risk. Deal current allows victories at the expense of high-quality 3-3 combo and interesting cascades with oyler jump in the second half of programs.
At me absolutely solidary opinion. Now I will not approve anything, but as it seems to me, nobody will risk before the Olympic Games. And here what will be created after the Olympic Games, the imagination can not be enough. There is only assumption that the female figure skating will gradually turn into man's. And man's – in just transcendental.

She is such a smart young woman.

Meanwhile, for me, I am hoping YoI season 2 happens because I feel like if there was Evgenia would totally be asked to do a voice like Stephane and Oda!

There are lots of people that really don't like Medvedeva on this forum. There is a thread asking which of Eteri's skaters is best on The Edge and I think only 1 post that puts Zhenia first (and qualified with "for right now"). I get that Polina and Alina are really good, but Zhenia has been undefeated for a really long time. Anyways I hope she continues her undefeated streak at Russian Nationals and will continue to cheer for her win or lose!

I hope someone checked on Evgenia after episode 12 today! It was quite intense!

The girl is tough, she doesn't look like it but she is tough. She doesn't throw death stare but her resilience is enough to show it. She will be fine.

I agree, Zhenya is a tough young lady, determined and steady, very intelligent too. I think her interactions with Eteri that we can see sometimes speak of this, she can hold her own. No need to worry about her, some moments are maybe difficult but that's just life and I do think she can handle it.

She's in the first group tomorrow, silly draw but can't wait. Should be a good competition overall.

I like her a lot as well as other 2 Russian girls. I don't feel it's necessary to rank them. But it is good that Medvedeva gets some critics now so she will improve. She is smart and hardworking. And I don't mind she makes some mistakes in competitions and not ends up on top even. I'm sure she will have the best luck on most important day.

So do I. If somebody says that some other Tutberidze's student is better than Evgenia, that's clearly sore grapes, lol.

In the interview I found the beginning especially interesting. She says she's participated in a photo session in which she's introduced her own clothing line. "It's the fruit of my labor. I've designed practice attire. All the models were created according to my ideas, my sketches.... I like to draw in general and consider myself a creative person." She says the first batch of her line will go on sale by the New Year.

And I absolutely agree with her when she says that the style of her programs may be similar, but the stories are different. However, it worries me when she says that next year she wants to try "something more lively, even passionate." I fear that it'll be something like her exhibition number, which I don't really care much about. But even if she does it excellently, like Pogorilaya in her SP this season, it'll still be something that's been done countless times, as opposed to Evgenia's current programs which are unique.
