Aside from his jumps, his expression got deeper through SP and FS. Further, FS’s steps! So sharp and catching each piece of sounds.
Still any video isn’t updated? I would love to repeat!

I've updated the OP with videos. Don't know how long it'll stay up though. This person's videos sometimes gets deleted really fast depending on the skater.

:luv17: :yahoo: Congratulations to my favorite warrior! He has a lot to be proud of. I'm sure he was disappointed on the jumps, but he moved so well with his steps, and his spins are becoming more and more fabulous all the time. Stayed up until 3 am watching the ladies short and then couldn't bring myself to look at the men's results this morning. But all is well! I hope that in a few days I will be able to say "Congratulations!" in person. :hap10:

Very happy for Dad Keiji and Mura too!

Which leaves me baffled for all the dislike he receives. :(
He receives lot of critics because of his jumps, and people aren't always patient with skaters who are working on jumping better but don't improve fast enough to their taste.
Oh well... it's best not to worry on this. All skaters in team Japan are hard-workers, Shoma included.

Also, as a medal contender in all competitions he enters, he will get a higher level of scrutiny now. No one nit-picks much on the 10th place finisher.
Look at what posters debate about concerning Evgenia, Satoko, Yuzu, Patrick and other top skaters. It's a sign he's solidly in the top ranks and now folks are going to pay attention to Shoma. In good ways and in bad ways.

That might be true, but if Mura had skated clean and Shoma had not delivered he would not be National Champion now. His skate was the best of this night, clear and simple. Shoma has it in him to beat Yuzuru. And then you get comments on how it physically hurts some people to watch the 'messy skating' from the chosen one. Sorry, that's not normal criticism that's just blatant dislike. I kind of understand what Patrick Chan's fans have been going through all these years. It makes me reflect on my own posts on skaters I dislike. I hope I'll never come over as mean spirited as that.

Merry Christmas, Shoma FF thread!

Let’s stop talking about haters and ignore them. Haters just want to criticize him. I wish it is the warm and happy place for his fans. :)

Shoma’s comments after FS were so impressive. He’s sincere, honest, determined… etc. i cant help but keep cheering up for him. While haters are gushing over using their precious time, he is moving forward. (Im also determined that I shall never concern about haters to use my limited life time effectively.)

Happy Merry Christmas! :yahoo:

Things are so busy at this time of year, but I really want to go and watch him again. I will have to call and see when he will be on the ice. Last time he was just practicing, but this time he will be getting some lessons. Should be interesting... I also HAVE to talk to broadcaster Chris from B ESP this time. I promised some GS-ers a long time ago that I would tell him how much the Brit broadcasters are appreciated. Last time he was in the middle of giving a private lesson.

If you can go there, that will be wonderful! My only concern has been his health. Two big competitions between the two weeks and that that hard training in US (slave what?)! But judging from his comments, his condition is good. He seemed so fun while his stay in US this summer. Spending his new year’s days oversea will be refreshing for him!

Shoma ilu!! He did so great! Seeing him cry always makes me want to stab myself but since it was tears of joy it was ok. It was not perfect but it was completely well enough and it was a performance of character and strong will!

merry christmas to all here :ghug:

Congratulations Shoma on winning Nationals! :cheer:
After the SP, I wasn't too worried about him because the FS has proven to work so well for him this season. Yeah, some landings were a bit messy, but still he was the best of the night. And was it me, or did his step sequence look sharper his time?
I hope he can have a few days of rest and enjoy his win before heading back to America. Now I wonder if, as National Champion, he'll get send to AWG, 4 CC and Worlds? Or perhaps he might decide to skip one?

^ Shoma's step sequence was insane much sharper than usual. He was so determined to give a good skate and he succeeded!

I was thinking it is a shame he has those ice shows scheduled. It might be nice to rest for a week and then fly over. But they know what's best. Yes, I think Alex will not be quite as much of a slave driver like during the summer. The off season is a little different. They have to not over work him during the season. He did really enjoy his time and I wondered if maybe Itsuki would come too. His mom will like the after-Christmas sales! :laugh2:

Just hoping with all the flying he can keep from getting the flu and other ailments like cold and cough. He was already coughing when he talked with Dai before the competition. And of course I loved his good manners when he coughed and covered his mouth with the back of his hand! :)

Totally agree! Merry Christmas Everyone!

I think his steps and spins have been looking awesome. He talks about how when he gets nervous he stiffens up and can't move the way he likes to. But I thought his steps were well done.

That's the spirit hamaguri. I have a hard time with this, and I know I should let it go. *sigh*

You have a sensitive spirit nothing wrong with that. :ghug:

I don't know how long you have been a skating fan but when you have been a fan as long as I have (I have had a lot of favorites over the years) believe me
I have heard just about every kind of criticisms there is. Back in the day I would get into flame wars with the best of them. I have learned from those experiences
that it is not worth my time and energy. Skating is a sport that I enjoy and I realize that criticism is part of that sport but I let it roll off because it really has
nothing to do with me personally. I like who I like and that is the bottom line for me.

You are right… Today, I was so angry with the critisism and argued back and in vain… it’s very useless. I got a precious lesson. Talking about figure skating in GS is fun, but I don’t know anyone comes here and each personality. I must be careful in the future! :drama:

Just wanted to express my gratitude to everyone on this thread for making my experience with figure skating so much better
I've been following this forum for quite a while now, but this has been the first year that I've considered joining, so thank you so much for the warm reception . Also, considering Shoma getting criticised all over the forum for various issues...
Well I get it too, I probably shouldn't even pay my attention to them :agree2:. I believe in fair criticism, it's just so hard to comprehend how people can just give such comments like: "Let's all be realistic. Shoma won't go any far because he's like Kana." That's not even blatant dislike, that's plainly ill-wishing.

I'm just glad that Shoma had had a spectacular first-half of the season so far, and I hope he'll achieve even better results for the rest! I know he has a lot of goals to accomplish for 2017, but I hope he'll find time to rest himself too!
Meanwhile, my goal for 2017: Start ignoring all the Shoma-haters!

Anyways, MERRY CHRISTMAS :ghug:
