I keep wondering about that though... (Don't take my word for it as like i've said before i haven't taken japanese lessons and i haven't been to Japan, everything is from self study)
I've noticed that the japanese keep saying yes or nodding with their heads when people are talking, and that doesn't mean that they are agreeing, is just to show the person who is speaking that they are listening to them.
Maybe that was the "yes yes yes" that Yuzuru did at the beginning and now that he has been living some time in Canada he doesn't do that anymore when speaking there, which could be interpreted as "yes he finally understands"?

Also isn't that the video where narcissa got her avatar :P? i have the gif of that smile saved on my phone... For science... :)

Lol, I'm still crossing my fingers that Yuzuru's English will keep getting better and better, so I'm glad he's trying to speak without a translator at least once in a while  Also, it must have been an emotional conversation.

And yes, that is where my avatar is from  He looks absolutely gorgeous in the entire interview, I feel I could've literally screencapped any moment.

I don't believe they do. Brian was saying when Yuzu first came to him that he didn't know a word he said and would nod yes at Brian's directions and then not do what Brian told him to do . But since Yuzu's been learning English it's been much better.
Yes, at Autumn Classic and GPF practice when my friends were there, they saw Yuzuru asked for Brian's advices a lot. Their communication has become much better with Yuzuru's improved English.

Knowing English will have its uses throughout his life that's for sure. As much as learning Japanese will be useful for many skaters these days since it's so lucrative over there. I think he is determined to keep trying with English. He recently said he wants to not need a translator anymore like a compatriot athlete. It was in some interview post GPF. I'm sure one of you knows more than I do, lol.

That's good to hear.

You can definitely tell that he understands a lot more, no matter the accent of the person speaking to him
I have been feeling like we're starting to get a bit more of our usual Yuzuru when he speaks english, i don't know if we will ever get machine-gun english Yuzu (i would love that ) but i feel like there isn't a big difference between his english personality and japanese personality anymore, i guess that means that he feels more comfortable with the language now :)

It is the best way to communicate with skaters, coaches, etc., from any other country so it is extremely practical for him to keep at it. I kept wondering if he had written to TAT in english since she coached in the US for years and knows a bit.... now we know he didnt, but it would make sense.

And agreed: his comprehension is much better now. It is just getting those darned words out!!

Oh for sure. I did learn Japanese, and notice myself doing a LOT more head nods and yes's than when I'm speaking Chinese/English. It's just the mannerisms built into it to, like you said, show that I'm listening.

I love that Yuzu's communicating with Brian without a translator, and improving on his English. It has to be more genuine that way :3 The way he absolutely tries at press conferences after an SP/FS, it's like Battle#2 and adorable.

I must follow suit with making a gif of that smile!!

His comprehension is amazing! The only time I've seen him not comprehend the question (even when the speaker spoke really fast), the girl had such an accent *I* couldn't even understand it.

I noticed the head nod thing because someone recently asked me why i kept nodding and saying yes when they were talking  , i do it even when speaking on the phone(to be honest sometimes i bow a bit when saying thank you, like, when someone holds open the door for me... That has become a bit embarrassing... But it is totally unconscious by now, i guess it's because i've been learning since i was a child and i got used to it lol)

I really like to see his progress, because i like to hear what he wants to say in his own voice. The choice of words matter and i love how eloquent he seems in japanese (or it might be just me with my atrocious lack of vocabulary hahaha, but i really like how he speaks in those rare ocassions when i understand everything he says. I like the words he chooses), so if we could get a bit of that in english it would be really great. He doesn't seem to struggle as much as before, and that makes me very happy :D

When i was first shown that gif, ONE OK ROCK's Be the Light started playing on Spotify and i started tearing up :hopelessness:

Now that I think about it, I do the same!! I'm completely oblivious to it in the moment though. I'll nod when speaking Japanese but when I'm speaking English I'm more likely to make and "mhmm" sound. And I feel like in a recent interview I noticed Yuzu doing "mhmm" too which further shows he is more comfortable with English. I also try to make sure I'm saying "eto" or "ano" as opposed to "umm" when speaking it, but that's a little more practiced for me and less natural because I'm fighting a little bit not to say "umm". I'm going to be super self-conscious of this when I'm there next month .

I always wondered what "ano" meant, I hear it in interviews all the time. Same as umm?

Yep, placeholder sound for when you are looking for words to say. The japanese pause a lot when they speak too, so his pauses are probably staying for a while :P

Did i read this correctly  ?
Does it really say, "If this person got married, you would have to take a day off from work" or something like that  ?
Yuzuru is in second place hahaha
(I would have to take a day off though... As much as i want him to find his perfect partner, i know my heart would be broken for days u.u i feel so bad about that)

And I'd be happy for him, really. As long as he's happy... :)

we can commiserate together on our day off...

Sorry OT. :hijacked: but I have a question.

I just checked out 4CC brochure, and I found out that the official hotel for the team is located 45 km (40 min drive) away from the venue?
This seems like travelling back and forth to the hotel will be a hassle, even though they provide a shuttle. Wasn't a similar problem occur in GPF Marseille? I read reports and articles about skaters complaining how troublesome it is to reach the venue because of how far the hotel is, and how some of them even have to share uber car(in Shibsibs vlog I even saw them sharing taxi with Javi and Nathan? lol).
Are the skaters required to stay in official hotels or if they want to pay for themselves they are free to stay wherever?
