Yuzu inspired me—I am going to Worlds for the first time with my sister! We have never been to a competition before, only shows. I have a ticket for the short and I will be wearing purple for good luck and watching his incredible program live. Unfortunately we don't have tickets to the free skate yet. I am hoping for something better than Balcony 2.

I have balcony 2 tickets but I'll have a binocular with me just in case. And I won't wear anything spectacular otherwise I am really afraid that I'll jinx him. I'll have a lucky charm though! Something like a magic rock!

Is it just me or the Asian fans seems to prefer Yuzuru's Hope and Legacy? While the Western + NA fans seem to prefer Let's go crazy?
I hope we will have a survey for this.

I like both, but I am more of a fan of Let's Go Crazy. Admitting this to myself makes me a bit sad, because I love Joe Hisaishi, Hayao Miyazaki, and Studio Ghibli to death. Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke were my favorite movies growing up, and I would even say they changed my life. I have a distinct memory that after I watched Spirited Away for the first time, I pretended to be sick so I could stay home from school and watch it over...and over...and over...in English, in Japanese (with no subtitles because I already memorized the lines), etc. And when I first heard Yuzu's music, it reminded me of Princess Mononoke so much, I started tearing up. But in terms of choreography, it's a bit mild/subtle for me, I feel like there's just...not as much going on? Or maybe the music carries itself so well, Yuzu's skating doesn't stand out as much. Whereas in LGC, he's so overt, it's awesome.

FWIW, I grew up in NA but I have Asian heritage :con2:

Hope and Legacy in a way reminds me of Requiem, they seem to be of a similar style/vibe?
I loved Requiem to death but I remember two commentators (CBC maybe? Or..?) with split opinions on it.

CBC and BEsp both said good things. I think Kurt Browning made some jokes about how Yuzuru would get a deduction because of his opening pose if this was a competitive program, but I thought it was tongue in cheek?

Anyway, I just have to say that I love requiem. It's so ridiculously beautiful, emotional, raw, and so different from his competitive programs because he's able to completely skate from the heart. Worlds 2016 gala is actually the only time I ever saw Yuzuru live, but I was all the way in the back, I could barely see him, and back then I really didn't know anything about him (I'm so late to the party, I know. I'm just glad I got here while he's still competing :hopelessness. The tears in his eyes at the end of the program break my heart every time. I'm so honored to have been in the audience even though I couldn't appreciate it

I know. Requiem was actually how I found my way to Yuzu, and it's one of those programs I go back to over and over again because it's such a pleasure to watch, and so soothing. I'm glad I caught up while he's still in competition too, I wish I paid more attention before then, weeps.

I'm based in the states but I was from Hong Kong so now I'm frantically trying to figure out if I could squeeze in a trip back to Asia in February! I've still never watched him live.

Well if he wins silver medal at Olympics, he probably did very badly and did not deserve the gold. I doubt any country's Skating Federation could influence enough people to sabotage a clean Yuzu.

And I don't think so about Patrick.... :/ I mean I know Yuzu left the door open in FS, but it just didn't end up happening. I distinctly remember thinking the win was fair, although I did NOT like Yuzu back then.

He made a mistake in SP and many in FS, wherever he skate he would not be 1st. Brian Orser skate at home in Calgary and still lost to Boitano due to a popped axel and stepping out 3F.

I do not think Patrick would have won in vancouver. Yuzu was disappointing at first, but i think he finished ok. Patrick's skate just kept going down and while I wanted him to break our Canadian curse with the open door he was given, I just knew he had lost it. I distinctly remember thinking there was no fight for gold in that program, he just appeared to give up and it was another silver. I would have been shocked if he had won, and I was more of a fan back then.

FAVORITE COSTUMES
1. Phantom of the Opera 2.0 - I don't get why people dislike this because IMO he never looked better haha, with the hair and the face and how well it fit him. It's not my favorite program artistically, but definitely my guilty pleasure Yuzuru program to watch.
1 (Tied). Seimei - Tied for #1, absolutely regal-looking.
3. Hello I Love You - :luv17:
4. Parisienne Walkways 2.0 - It's hard to decouple this from his AMAZING short program, but I like how almost casual this is, except with sparkles
5. Romeo & Juliet 1.0 - Looks very Romeo-esque, and 17 year old Yuzu looked and acted the part very well
6. Let's Go Crazy 1.0 - I know it blends with the ice, but I liked this version a lot, whereas the new one bothers me because the pants and shirt don't really match.
7. Chopin 1.0 - Beautiful shirt and beautiful, underrated program IMO.

WORST COSTUMES
1. Final Time Traveller - This one is just so...WHY...even when he looks good I won't repost any images with this costume :hopelessness:
2. Vertigo - No. Just no.
3. Requiem - Pretty sure he couldn't look more cabbage-like if he tried :hopelessness:
4. Notte Stellata - Too girly, even for me, and I'm a girl :hopelessness:
5. Chopin 2.0 - Not terrible, but I don't like the nude gussets.

Honorable mention: Romeo & Juliet 2.0 - I can just imagine Yuzu telling Johnny, "I want a giant piece of ruffle across the chest here...then below that, I want lace...and above that, I want jewels of all different colors and sizes...and on one sleeve I want a snake made of jewels, and on the other sleeve I want illusion mesh so it looks like half of my sleeve is gone...and then I want illusion mesh to my neck. Kthnx." But the Olympic Gold medal around his neck makes it all the better

I remember watching the program knowing that Patrick was 5th in Vancouver and 3-times world champion at that point, deciding on the spot I'd root for him, and realizing it wasn't for him in the free program. As a casual Olympics spectator back then, I really didn't support Yuzu back then for no particular reason.

Serves me right, playing catch up now.
