Satoko Miyahara

I did feel that she was a bit stoic before (a bit similar to pre 2002-2003 Arakawa)
but now she is feeling everything with her heart and soul

Same. I didn't notice Satoko much before 14-15 season, when I started being interested during the GP season. I really liked her during Nationals and she totally won me over after her WTT15 LP. She kept progressing ever since, it's a marvel to watch. Sometimes I watch her different LPs and thought of how much she improved in both tech and artistry since then.

thats one of the things i love to do and its especially great cause she is so consistent and we have so many clean performances to choose from :luv17::love:
and i cant wait for Koi dance!! :yahoo::hap57: such a shame Yuzuru wont be there :sad21: i am so happy that she gets to spend time with Nobu, seems like she is having so much fun :dance3:

I secretly wish she kept the FS for the next season! I think it has the potential to be her best FS of all time, but sometimes I think some movements could better match the music, so she could perfect it. Also, the Star Wars music is unique and it would win her many new fans in the Olympics! You need to make a statement there and this program would be the perfect vehicle for that!

As some ppl have suggested, I'd like to see something on the lines of Hernando's Hideaway or a jazzy big band piece in her SP next season :)

Happy new year! May 2017 be the year our Satton will get another World medal with her fantastic FS and also qualify for Pyeongchang Olympics in December!

A couple of observations on Satoko's skating from Daisuke Takahashi and Yamato Tamura (source)

Daisuke: First place finisher Miyahara Satoko (Kansai University) and second place finisher Higuchi Wakaba (Tokyo Nihonbashi Jogakkan High School) made it out of the pack. They don’t just skate their elements and in-between transitions, it’s full of difficult movements. Satoko has the most challenging ones here this year as their difficulty is also performed without any loss of speed. The way she can gain points in these minute areas is what makes her so strong.

Yamato: We’re done with Nationals. All seven of our skaters had their own showing. Miyahara Satoko’s objective was to win. “Aim to win.” Being focused on the placement was something on our minds in the rigorous preparation. In any other case, that may not have been something to consider… In the case where winning was nearly a given, that added pressure she placed on herself was something she was able to overcome and win. In a skating sense, we are not “satisfied,” “convinced,” nor “moved” by the performances here. It’s not just in figure skating. It’s nearly impossible for all athletes to be “satisfied” and “convinced” and to move an audience and win in all competitions. Of course, that would be ideal, but reality is not that simple. For two-time national champion Miyahara, winning was her number one priority at this competition. To achieve that, she put in a huge amount of time into her preparation. And so, from a goal-achievement perspective, I am “satisfied.” In defending her title, she completed the three-peat, where there true value. She has competed at the World Championships twice now, and with the win here, she can now prepare for her third appearance to compete with the world’s best.

Ioanna, you're like a human repository on Satoko and team Japan. I'm in awe of your updating and information organization skill.

 I run a fanblog for her so I have my (Japanese) sources to be able to update. I used to do the same thing for Tatsuki Machida but he retired and it's not the same thing anymore.

Here are some photos I took of Satoko at the Grand Prix Final in Marseille.

I thought her performances there clearly showed the effects of spending time with famous ballerina Miyako Yoshida (herself rather diminuitive by ballet standards), learning how to "skate big" and project an image that's bigger than your physical size...

Bonus:
Mortal Kombat... Satoko vs Kaetlyn... "Fight!!"... who will win??!
